It’s as if ‘Freedom Day’ never happened. A new Government ad campaign tells Brits to carry on wearing face masks and to use the NHS Covid app so as to “keep life moving”. One poster warns that “Covid is still with us” and that you can still pass on the virus “even if you’ve been vaccinated”: “[So] let’s wear face coverings in crowded places to protect others.” The Evening Standard has the story.
An official information campaign, which will hit airwaves, newspapers and other media from Thursday, will see the Government replace its “hands, face, space, fresh air” slogan with its new catchphrase: “Keep life moving.”
A video fronted by TV doctor Dr Amir Khan will also recommend people continue to follow social distancing guidance, as the film shows a young man stepping off a pavement to allow an older neighbour to pass.
The advice comes despite Monday being trumpeted as England’s ‘Freedom Day’, with Prime Minister Boris Johnson removing almost all legal restrictions, including social distancing guidelines.
Pressure has also been placed on young people to get a vaccine, as Health Secretary Sajid Javid reiterates the Prime Minister’s plan to make full vaccination a “condition of entry to nightclubs” by the autumn.
The campaign will warn, however, that being doubled jabbed does not entirely protect you from being infected with coronavirus, or from being told to self-isolate.
The campaign instructs people to stick with the behaviour that has become “second nature” over the past year of lockdowns. This advice appears to have been pulled directly out of Susan Michie’s rule book. In June, the top Government adviser and long-time member of the Communist Party of Britain said measures adopted during the pandemic should become part of our “normal” routine behaviour, just as wearing car seat belts has become commonplace. The Evening Standard continues:
The recommendations include using quick-result lateral flow tests twice a week and booking a PCR test if there is any sign of even mild coronavirus symptoms.
People will be encouraged to keep washing their hands regularly, to check in to pubs, bars and restaurants using the Covid app, and to wear face masks in crowded places where “distancing is not possible”, such as public transport or small shops.
It will also place renewed emphasis on the importance of ventilation in fighting infection during social gatherings, while vaccine take-up will also be pushed.

Have not taken a mask with me when shopping or out and about since Monday. Am vaccinated, get plenty of fresh country air, don’t go to nightclubs or such crowded places, and am looking forward to doing a hour long bus journey tomorrow maskless and un social distanced. At some point we have to accept that the virus is endemic, like numerous other conditions and get back to normal. Of course some will call me heartless and selfish. They (whoever “they” are) will say “but people will die”.i’ve got news for them. People are dying of un covid conditions and have been since last March – it’s just that Sage has ignored them. The government’s “Project Fear” should by now be a busted flush. If you want to cower and hide from “the VIRUS!!!”, fine, be my guest. But you’re at a party I won’t rejoin.
Won’t be read but this shambles has hardly been associated with keeping life moving. Get life moving again, resist
I’m not having any gene therapy, won’t be taking any tests and will not be wearing a mask unless a premises, that I must visit, makes it mandatory.
It’s good job that my parents’ and grandparents’ generation were much bolder and stoic in confronting totalitarianism and tyranny than the majority of today’s lily-livered populace.
The crude mortality rate in 2020 was just over 1000 (per 100,000 population) and was about 14% higher than the previous year.
At first this looks a shocking figure but we must take a number of factors into account. Particularly the changing age of the population and the history of these rates.
The ‘aged standardised’ mortality rate in 2020 was 1043. In historical terms this is a low rate.
This rate is in fact lower than every previous year on record before 2008 (when it was 1091). It’s only between 2011 and 2019 that rates fell below 1000. The decade was in in fact very unusual for having such low death rates.
In my opinion if you put these death rates into this historical context the responce to the epidemic in 2020/2021 appears ill-judged and extreme.

The short answer is get lost, we do NOT need your advice.
Good day in my local city no mask on train no problems no mask in small M&S no problems or in Waitrose also on train two young folks got on in masks saw me with out and ditched theirs!!
I went out for day on Tuesday, to nearby tourist area. Lovely day, both a cafe and gallery were 90% maskless faces. Went to Whitby, half the people not wearing masks. Then out for meal to local village pub, no masks, waiters all maskless, no telephone numbers requested, no screens, nothing. Wonderful!
Surprisingly in Lidl on Friday most people wearing masks. Only me and another lady maskless. Some staff maskless too though. More staff than customers without masks. My husband went into Lidl maskless and then seemed to bow to some unseen pressure and put his mask on half way round. Then didn’t put his on in b&m because nobody else did. Sheeple.
I would say here (Whitby, North Yorkshire) it seems that masks are more prevalent in supermarkets but in town or the tourist places there are much less and perhaps 70:30.
Following the example of my husband. I think if more people sack off their masks, more sheeple will follow.
No mask, not test, no problem!
They can go forth and multiply. Not only am I not wearing a mask, I’m not even wearing my lanyard any longer. I’m sick of being taken for a fool, but I worry if the bulldog spirit of the British has survived – if it has, it seems to be weak and fragile.
Had my first ‘post mask’ altercation today. I had my young son, ( who has learning difficulties), with me in a cafe. He is excited about the school hols and tends to chat to pretty much anyone and before I could stop him he was telling a woman near him in the queue about this and then said ‘And we don’t have to wear masks!’ The woman made a point of telling me that I should be setting a better example and wear one . I pointed out that regardless of anything, we were eating in so wouldn’t be wearing them anyway- but you’re waiting to order, she said, and should wear one until you get seated. I asked how it was OK to sit down for 30 minutes without a mask but risky to stand in line for 5 minutes to order take away or a meal. It’s because we’re moving about and anyway every little bit helps and it wouldn’t hurt me, etc. So, there you have it- the irrefutable logic of the terminally paranoid and fearful.
Hope you told the cunt to fuck off
Who “socially distances”? It’s something we’re told to do over and over again, but nobody does it, even those telling others to do it don’t do it. When we talk to people we stand at a normal distance from them, does anybody stand at a one-two metre distance to talk to someone? In the supermarket nobody bothers to stand at a distance in the queue anymore. Nobody bothers to stay two meters from others. If you want the pack of chicken that’s right next to somebody, you just go and pick it up as normal. It is only done where it is easy to do – for example in a church to place the seats two metres apart. Everywhere else it is ignored.
Muzzles were encouragingly down a bit here in NW London burbs yesterday but it might just have been the weather. Nice to get a smile from the staff in Greggs and I told them how much their happy faces improved the day.
All ruined by bedtime though – the wretched Stephen Reicher was flogging the vital return to enforced muzzling on Newsnight last night (around 13.50 for masochists). Another SPI-B social psychologist who of course knows fuck-all about viruses or people.
Most people in my east anglian market town continue to wear masks outside in hot weather with pride.
Freedom day meant nothing here.
They’re testing whether the sheeple have been sufficiently conditioned and will now comply with “guidance” without a law to enforce it.
The state doesn’t exist to serve us. We exist to serve the state: pay taxes, do as we are told, and be good citizens, then get a big dose of morphine when our bodies peg out. Shouldn’t there be more to life?
Why does a young man have to step off a pavement to allow an old lady to pass? They’re outside for God’s sake and the encounter would have lasted a few seconds. People are terrified of even looking at others now- like they can catch it with a passing glance. As for wearing masks on crowded busses- if there were a few people on there with covid, how would a mask protect anyone? How long before there was enough of the virus in the air around everyone because, you know, mask wearers still have to breathe out? I’m stunned that enough people are stupid or gullible enough to believe this utter nonsense. They really are no more than bleating sheep.
The whole argument for any sort of discrimination against unvaccinated people, and the basis of the emotional blackmail that claims everyone has a duty to others to allow themselves to be injected with one of the experimental vaccines (and take the risks involved), is the assumption that an unvaccinated person poses a much greater risk to those around them of passing on the virus, compared to a vaccinated person.
But now the government says the effectiveness of the vaccines at preventing people who have taken them passing on the virus to others, is low enough that everyone needs to be warned about it, and advised to follow the same measures we were led to believe were a temporary ‘workaround’ until the ‘solution’ of a vaccine became available.
If for the sake of argument, one assumes that the ‘temporary’ measures of face masks etc. are effective at reducing spread, and ignores the huge ethical concerns about vaccine passports and looks only at the practical aspects… Surely if the vaccines are effective enough to make vaccine passports worthwhile (i.e. they would significantly reduce the number of people who end up with severe cases of Covid-19), then they should also be effective enough to… Read more »
You need a brain – albeit not much of a one- to work that one out.
No good telling MPs, then. Or zombies.
Ah, remember when we were told that vaccines would set us free again? If they work, no other measures required- simples. You’re protected, no need to worry. How gullible we were..I’ve never heard of taking a vaccine to protect someone else- it’s like wearing a condom to stop your brother getting someone else pregnant!
The vaxxed can still get the virus and still pass it on.
But it’s ok for them to attend big sporting events and nightclubs, yeah? And not quarantine when they’re pinged, yeah? And travel abroad, yeah?
Exactly, and those of us that have had kungfu, recovered and now have proper lifelong immunity without the need for a comedy vaccine are discriminated against!
The vaxed will be less likely to realise they are spreading it. The unvaxed meanwhile are more likely to get symptoms and then isolate till they have recovered. You could argue therefore, that it is the vaxed who should be banned from nightclubs, spirting events, travel etc.
I don’t think it matters whether the”vaxed” spread it or not. Very few new “cases” are now dying in the UK – less than 50 each day have COVID listed as a cause of death on the death certificate. (To put this in context there are about 1500 deaths (from any cause) in the UK each day).
I feel very low today with it all. It does feel like it will never end. I don’t know if it is the authorities dread of what will happen this winter but things feel worse and less hopeful than last year at this time. I hate the coercion of vaccines in any age group. I just hope next spring things will be better and life more normal.
I’m sorry, Wendy, but hope is not a strategy.
You (and everyone else) are going to need to fight, and fight hard.
This is tyranny, and tyranny knows only one language.
Force.
Fight but also look after yourself, your physical and mental health, and those nearest and dearest to you. Do things you enjoy. I will never accept the coronamadness as long as I live but neither will I wallow in misery (I’m not accusing anyone of doing that, BTW).
We are sane (at least about covid). Others have gone mad. They can never take that away from us.
Please give me an idea of how. Who is there with the guts, power and authority to lead those of us who have seen the situation over the last 17 months for what it is? We need a leader to stand up and be counted and then we can help, follow, protest, non comply, etc. Who is there? And how do we fight against the tyranny, totalitarianism, despotism, dictatorship, call it any f these things. But the worst is the mindless compliance of so many people with these measures. Most dispiriting.
Don’t let all this pull you down into a low energy sphere. Then you will give up, and that is exactly where they want you, where they want all of us! This is all by design. All that we are experiencing when we are being gaslighted to, lied to, threatened, coerced to, is external energy, every bit of it. Its not our energy. We have to see it all, we experience it, and then we let it go. This how we collectively dismantle ALL of this, by not giving in, ever, by not holding on to it! There are millions of us all over the world even if it doesn’t feel like it. If we all rise above this, step back from it, remenbering to live and laugh, we will make it through to the other side.
So they’re admitting openly now the jabs don’t work? That they are pointless? That all those people have risked their health, their lives, by having been jabbed?
They work but only in conjunction with whatever other measures they decide suit their purposes, from time to time. It’s all theatre.
Seems like no one under 40 took their masks off, so why the need. How about a “we know masks do little if anything to stop infections, so now, one foot hopping for all” campaign. Makes about as much sense.
Doesn’t make sense as theatre though. The measures have to be plausible to the layman.
To my mind the key item in this despicable advert is ‘app’, I think this is now all looking like a drive to a digitally controlled soulless future, an app for your health and your continuing need for the vaccines big brother says you should have, an app for your car to bring in road pricing and limitations on travel, an app for your smart meter to ensure your house is running eco friendly. As for an app to confirm that your life is soulful, human and joyful? forget it.
Same story with ‘smart’ meters as with all this- feeling like a maverick going against ‘them’ with everyone else rushing to get one so they can sit and look at a read out of how much energy they’re using and go ‘ooh! clever!’. I learned years ago that they were TWO way devices and you could be disconnected without the inconvenience of having to contact you and visit your property and alter your tariffs. I get bombarded with things like ‘we’re in your area fitting them so let us know when we can come and fit your FREE smart meter!’. They are worded in a way that can make it seem obligatory to someone like my 91 year old mother in law, who was on the verge of booking an installation until I asked her if she was planning on changing anything she did to save money. No was the answer, so what’s the bleedin’ point then? She actually thought it would save her money simply by being there.
I don’t know about anywhere else but around here (South Shropshire/North Worcestershire/West Midlands), the maskateers are around 95% with probably 30% outside in 28° heat so a long way to go yet.
But we will be victorious.
For some reason the fools in Sage and Government think that masks will help but in reality they are doing the opposite. Not a muzzle in sight on the coast today and overheard a conversation about using an exemption and one said, I didnt know you could do that! After 18 months! They know the whole charade collapses when the sign of compliance goes
They don’t think masks will help. It’s just about control. And sadly they are not fools, just evil.
Fools, evil fools, they can stick their muzzles.
I do agree, however, I think that Michie and her ilk are trying to force their communist ideological compliance of fear on us. Works with some.
“Keep Life Moving” – are they having a bubble bath??? Well of course they are! Either that or they’re getting effing desperate that their grip is loosening and the fear mongering is having far less effect on people, even on the coronaphobes – they know that the evidence isn’t stacking up, even if they refuse to see it. The crApp has been pinging those that are stupid enough to download it, so now we have a “reduced workforce” and….wait for it…the oh, so inevitable FOOD SHORTAGES (where the MSM tell people not to panic buy!) That didn’t take long. Their desperate despotism is farcical now, they’re had more flip flops than a beach shop, Don’t get me started on the sudden U turn on passports – did you know that the House of Commons will be exempt from having to show passports? Rules for thee but not for me…I heard yesterday that all this tyrannical crap was supposed to roll out gradually (and insidiously) over 10 years. Perhaps they feel like they’re running out of time!
See attached pic for masks, straightforward factual diagram based on the Telegraph article.
This is down to Boris. He always believed in lockdown and was only ever forced into limited release from restrictions, against what he wanted. We will never get any leadership and will never be free of any of this until he is gone. The longer he stays the more the lockdown zealots increase their influence. I do have sympathy with the poor thing: he’s clearly completely out of his depth and has absolutely no idea what he is doing; probably he never got over his own Covid experience.
The truth should be championed: hospitalisations and deaths ARE low and cases are not yet even near the 100 000 predicted. And what does Boris do? More of the wicked scare tactics and proposals for fascist style restrictions like vaccine passports. Don’t be fooled into thinking this is just a tactic and they will go away. Oh no. He hasn’t told colleagues to say they “might not” be needed in shops for nothing: he means they will. And the requirement for the Tory conference is his clear way of stating: agree with me or you’re out. Just… Read more »
Wear a mask
Get some spray paint
Graffiti billboards like these.
Should anyone ever comment as to why you are not joining in with the moronic muzzling behavior, be sure to always go on the offensive and leave them shocked and embarrassed. This is the only cure for stupid.
Sorry to disillusion you – but it isn’t actually a ‘cure’.
Give it a rest.
Time to start making plans to leave the country. It’s the mad hatters tea party!
My plans are already in action
Where are you going?
Bulgaria. It’s not perfect there but better.
I was in Bulgaria shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall and fell in love with it. Not sure I ever imagined, back then, that I’d be fleeing to the other side of the old iron curtain in order to escape a communist dictatorship but you know, we live in crazy times.
Their music is insane

It is so bad, I fear I might have to as well – but is there anywhere to go which rejects all these restrictions (especially vaccination passports)? I’m scratching my head!
It is your duty now, if you are fit and healthy, to ignore all this bollox and get on with your life. Just what can Johnson and co., do about that?
That’s exactly what I am doing
Went to a funeral on Tuesday. Every bench had a “covid is rife in Plymouth, please wear a mask” sign. Did I comply? No,of course not. Don’t tell me how to behave.
