Satellite data show that global warming started to run out of steam two decades ago, but the U.K. Met Office’s record of surface temperature from 1975 was boosted by 14% at the end of 2020. At the same time, the period between 1880-1975 was cooled. The move accentuates the rise in the global temperature recorded in the 1980s and 1990s that forms the basis of much of the current hysteria about the so-called climate emergency.
The disclosure of the apparent warming and cooling is contained in the latest State of the Climate report from Emeritus Professor Ole Humlum of the University of Oslo, and published by the Global Warming Policy Foundation. Professor Humlum says the post-1975 warming is about +0.1°C and the pre-1975 cooling about -0.1°C. The version-change to the fifth HadCRUT Met Office database “conveys the impression of a somewhat more rapid global temperature increase following the relatively cold period terminating around 1975”. When the Met Office first announced the change in December 2020, it admitted to 0.16°C extra warming, although it didn’t give specifics about cooling and warming either side of the 1975 mark.
Professor Humlum also draws attention to significant retrospective changes in the American GISS surface temperature record. The graph below shows the effect of the changes made since May 2008 on the monthly temperature record, with increases in red and decreases in blue. As with HadCRUT, the changes warm the early part of the record, cool the period from 1900 to 1970, and heat up the later recordings.

Humlum notes that the changes in annual values are often quite substantial, ranging from about +0.15°C to −0.15°C. He goes on to note that the temperature difference between 1915 and 2000 increased from 0.45°C to 0.67°C. “This represents an increase of about 49% over this period, meaning that about half of the apparent global temperature increase from January 1910 to January 2000 is due to administrative adjustments to the original data made since May 2008,” he writes.
Recent boosts to global temperatures databases are of course very helpful to activists in the media and politics keen to report ‘record’ warm years at a time when accurate satellite data reveal a pause of 88 months (and counting). In addition, work continues across a number of fronts to promote the climate emergency agenda, including extreme weather events.
Last week, the BBC reported that southern African storms were fuelled by climate change. According to the BBC, the results of a study from the World Weather Attribution group show that damage inflicted by storms in the region was exacerbated by global warming. According to the press release, the group used “computer simulations” to arrive at its findings. The BBC ran the scare story, without a byline, despite noting that “the precise contribution of climate change to the event could not be quantified, due to the absence of comprehensive historical records of rainfall in the region”.
In fact, attributing single episodes of bad weather to long-term changes in the climate is highly unscientific, since it is just an opinion. In 2014, Associate Professor Jennifer Fitchett from the University of the Witwatersrand published a paper in which she said she found “no statistically significant trends in the frequency of tropical cyclone landfalls over Madagascar and Mozambique over the past six decades”. Furthermore, much of the perceived changes in storm numbers could be attributed to recent improvements in storm detection methods.
Professor Humlum’s excellent and measured climate report provides further context in which to evaluate the constant media scare stories about hurricane and cyclones.

The above graphs plot accumulated cyclone energy (ACE), as used by the U.S.-based National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Humlum notes that ACE gives a measure of the damage potential of an individual storm or a season. If climate change is affecting the southern hemisphere, and causing more severe problems in southern Africa, the trend does not yet appear to have shown up in the actual data. Overall, Humlum notes, “existing records do not suggest any abnormal cyclone activity in recent years”.
Another fashionable scare story is the loss of snow, particularly in the Alps, a favoured winter holiday destination of many Guardian, BBC and Extinction Rebellion supporters. In 2017, the Guardian reported that according to “experts” Alpine ski resorts could lose up to 70% of their snow cover by 2100. Last year, Justin Rowlatt reported on Panorama that snowy U.K. winters could become a thing of the past.

Back on Planet Reality, the thin blue lines above, show weekly northern hemisphere snow data, while the thicker blue line shows a 53 week average. There is practically no change going back 50 years
Humlum concluded: “A year ago, I warned that there was great risk in using computer modelling and immature science to make extraordinary claims. The empirical observations I have reviewed show very gentle warming and no evidence of a climate crisis.”

Sooner or later, we’re going to need a government that isn’t totally corrupt. That can happen the easy way, or the hard way.
Problem is, it’s not the actual government which is driving this corruption. The governments of the Western world are just convenient placemen – they don’t decide anything. They just front up the decisions which have already been made.
What we need to do is change the corrupt establishment. Good luck with that…
Very true, the banskters who call the shots, promote and support various perverts, sex offenders and crooks into positions of power knowing they can control such people on the basis of holding evidence of their degeneracy over them.
Can you imagine the tapes that exist recording Mr Johnson’s activities?
Just imagine Jeffrey Epstein had offered Boris young fresh action at some point, does anyone doubt Boris would have been up there like a rat up a drain pipe.
Given what we already know about Bunter’s proclivities, what’s left to blackmail him about?
Don’t like to defend Boris in this hypothetical scenario but not many red blooded men would resist a hot Russian teen.
It isn’t going to happen the easy way.
Not going to happen. Our politicians are the lowest of the low now.
Last week I visited London and stayed in a cheap student hall of residence for a night. At breakfast, at the next table, were six folks who I slowly realised were down for the climate action. Yep, I was next to half a dozen Extinction Rebellion activists. So as I hunkered down on my full English, I listened in to what they were talking about, and observed them with the loopDloop critical eye. They were your bog-standard middle aged lefties or whatever. One of them made a heck of a fuss at the breakfast bar over is everything vegan. No, you wack-a-doodle, that’s a sausage, that’s bacon, that’s eggs. But whatever, what struck me more than anything was how dumb they all looked. They all had that eager, vapid, pointless look about them, combined with an excited smugness as they shared mobile phone pics of their new friend Barry climbing the tower with the sign, or whatever. They were full of bonhomie, like kids on a school camp, but did I mention, they looked like six dumb people. I mean, I’ve met plenty of activists in my long eventful life, and plenty of sharp people on both sides, but these six were clueless and had that look of, have I mentioned, pure dumbness.
In my mind, I played out a hilarious scenario where I stopped at their table on the way out, congratulated them on their tremendous work, and wondered if I could just ask a quick question around the table: what is their best estimate of Equilibrium Climate Sensitivity? Each of them, in my fantasy, just looked at me blankly with their mouths hanging open: ‘what’s that?’, ‘Don’t know.’ ‘What are you talking about?’. I tried to goad myself into actually doing it, but couldn’t muster up the straight face required, so I left them to their non-vegan full english and their excitement at the coming days activities.
Did I mention, they were as dumb as fenceposts. These were the people who a couple of hours later were gluing themselves to Lloyds of London doorways.
Good times, good times.
Well, you could say the same about the ranks of UK armies that went to war for a few centuries mate. They didn’t know why they were going either.
Same about all the prostitutes working in the media these days. Not one of them capable of USING critical thought, they would be sacked immediately if they tried to.
That is the victory of the “cabal”. They have managed to get 90% of the population to stop thinking and just swallow what the establishment tells them. Or maybe it has been forever thus?
‘Last week I visited London’
What possessed you to visit that third world sh#t hole?
Fair question. Unavoidable administrative obligation. Left as soon as I had the piece of paper. When Boswell (was it?) said ‘he who is tired of London is tired of life’, I don’t think he was talking about 2022.
Didn’t Dr Johnson counter by terming it ‘The Great Wen’?
The Great Wen was William Cobbett’s name for London.
Yep, stupid people with a relion-shaped hole in their lives. I don’t believe in gods, but it occurred to me some time ago that the majority of the population need religion to guide them though their stupid little brainless lives. No offense to any intelligent people who are religious, that’s your choice. I wish these morons would sign-up to distract them from projecting their folly (although with establishment figures like Welby now at the top, that might be sabotaged anyway).
“When men choose not to believe in God, they do not thereafter believe in nothing, they then become capable of believing in anything.”
― G.K. Chesterton
He’d clearly never met a Buddhist.
That appears to be true for the majority. But … let’s not forget religion being an artifact of humanity is far from perfect. In fact it often appears to be doing the devil’s bidding – if you believe that stuff.
Well I happen to believe in God and real empirical science.
Your point about religious leaders is well made.
For instance “my Pope” is even more of a watermelon than the one in Canterbury.
For what it’s worth he is also a Jesuit – so I will award you 9/10
I’ve heard a few Roman Catholics having a go at the Jesuits – can you explain what the problem is? NB I’m neither a Jesuit nor a Roman Catholic, I’m just curious.
In the 18th C the Jesuits got themselves banned by the French King and the Roman Catholic Church – later reinstated. Officially the order was set up to oppose the Protestant Reformation, but they got too powerful, controlled the elite education system, and were suspected of agitating for the Revolution thus undermining Catholic authority.
I have known quite a few Jesuits; and always enjoyed their company. They are renowned (or they were) for their capacity to argue all sides of a question (the derivation of the term “jesuitical”).
I once asked a Jesuit who wanted to know if I liked red wine, “Is the Pope a Catholic?” (I hope that question carries the same connotation in the UK). The Pope at the time was John Paul II. My Jesuit friend replied, “Well, we don’t know.”
The 1986 film The Mission offers a sympathetic portrayal of 18th-century Jesuit missionaries in South America.
Yes thanks for the explainations. I recon that Jesuits, whilst they are great teachers, are mainly left wingers in political terms.
As far as the age old cliche goes “Is the Pope a Catholic” I am afraid that could not possibly be answered in the affirmative with the current pontiff.
Although Jesuits are often associated with the Left (I enjoy reminding Jesuits that they taught Fidel Castro), it’s also the case that it was a Jesuit, Bernhard Stempfle, who helped Hitler write Mein Kampf.
Stempfle (who lost his life in or shortly after the Night of the Long Lives) was one of those Catholics who detested both Jews and socialists. It should quickly be pointed out that there were other Catholics (including Jesuits) who lost their lives in defence of Jews; and who were socialists themselves or defended socialists.
People are more than the labels applied to them – by themselves or others.
The Nazis were also of the Left, of course. As Dan Hannan put it, they called themselves the National Socialist German Workers’ Party, not the National Capitalist German Plutocrats’ Party.
“The 1986 film The Mission offers a sympathetic portrayal of 18th-century Jesuit missionaries in South America”
Another similar film is, Playing in the fields of our Lord.
The Mission (1986) is a great film, and was in large part informed by “A Vanished Arcadia, Being Some Account of the Jesuits in Paraguay, 1607 to 1767”, by Robert Bontine Cunninghame Graham. You can get a copy of this excellent book free online from Project Gutenberg.
Cunninghame Graham is an underappreciated author who wrote several excellent books about Paraguay, which he visited shortly after the devastating War of the Triple Alliance. In as much as he is remembered today, it is mostly indirectly, as his friend, the author Joseph Conrad, used him as a model for several of his protagonists.
There are pretty good reasons to dislike some of the activities of the Jesuits, but in the case of Paraguay they seem to have done a remarkable job of helping the natives. I had a chance to visit the ruins of a couple of the missions in 2010 (in Argentina and Paraguay) and they truly were inspiring even in a ruined state.
I think the film stands the test of time: superb performances, intensely moving and powerful, visually beautiful, and with a superb score by Morricone.
I knew a remarkable Jesuit priest, who was not unlike the film’s Father Gabriel. He was a brilliant and outstanding scholar, and a beautiful soul.
I must get around to reading Cunninghame Graham!
That is the nub of the problem. The majority of people need some sort of religion. That is what is used to manipulate them. Virtue signalling is their prayer ritual. They desperately want to be part of something to give their lives meaning. Conventional religion has waned and they grasp at cults such as mask wearing or happy clapping the NHS and lately thinking Zelensky and the Ukraine Nationalists are saints fighting the godly battle for righteousness. None of them having a clue about the reality or the history.
J H-B, Ian Collins and Jeremy Kyle on Talk Radio have recently interviewed representatives from Extinction Rebellion. Without exception, they have all been aggressive, emotion-driven loudmouths who resort to slogans when they are asked a question and then, if the interviewer persists their standard response is “I don’t know the answer to that because I’m not a scientist.”
Thick as mince, but as dogmatic as any Jesuit during the Inquisition.
I think you’ve put your finger on the key point which unites climate insanity with covid insanity. On one side of the divide, their entire attitude is that they trust the experts, and, what, do you think you know more than the doctor/scientist? On the other side are people who think for themselves, read for themselves, and trust their own ability to process information and come to their own conclusion.
What the first group have not yet grasped is how corrupted the medical/scientific fields have become by big money, big pharma, and big stupid.
The problem is that the first group comprises everyone you used to know, your family, the guys at work, your friends, 95% of the population, and that’s probably an underestimate.
What makes it tricky is we’re all roped together. It’s a pity there is no planet B as their worn meme goes, otherwise we could shove them all over there and carry on. But that’s not going to happen, and so it’s over the cliff we all go together.
“It’s a pity there is no planet B as their worn meme goes, otherwise we could shove them all over there and carry on.”
I think I recall something in Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy where the protagonists encounter a lone starship full of telephone cleaners, hairdressers and middle managers etc. Asking what they are doing they tell a tale of how they were informed of an impending planetary cataclysm and that the engineers, scientists, builders and physicians would be following them shortly in other starships.
This has been my experience when I see one of these protests. A fair number are simply young. Their enthusiasm will be throttled by real life.
But I’ve always been struck by the more mature people on display. What is their motivation? I hate to say it, but it is difficult to avoid the conclusion they are life’s discontended. They do seem to be of a type. Middle class, but only just. They seem to not be winning even if they are affluent by historical standards.
They are often clones of each other. A vaguely unkempt look, albeit with decent quality; Rohan trousers, brand name shoes and fleeces. But there is a kind of desperation about them.
I’m convinced it really is a religion for people who reject god or organized religion.
I’m convinced it really is a religion for people who reject god or organized religion.
Most do not understand the scientific questions involved, and are not terribly interested in genuinely studying them.
I find they tend to be a bit annoyed by serious environmental scientists because, like theologians, they complicate matters with qualifications and all manner of exegesis.
They do, on the other hand, love their priests and their holy children – like Saint You-Know-Whom.
Do you mean plonkers like the Prime Minister’s father?
Most people have a need for some higher meaning in their life. There isn’t one and they can’t accept that.
Stupidity is all around. I saw someone complaining the other day as they didn’t understand why their electricity bill had gone up, seeing as they were with an electric. supplier who promised to supply them with energy from renewables. Their premise was that wind is free so how dare they up the price.
As for extinction rebellion types…shortly it will all go quiet again until the next holidays – possibly at Jubilee time. Mummy will come and collect them from their demos in the Range Rover and they will settle back down in their heated homes, play on their X boxes, order take outs, plan their foreign hols or gap years and think how brilliant they are for actually doing something to save the planet.
They might not.
There might be raging inflation, high interest rates and mummy may be defaulting on the mortgage and wondering how she will put food on the table. The Range Rover will be gathering dust in the garage (before they are evicted) because they can’t afford the fuel even when there is fuel at the pumps.
My preferred question is ‘What level of CO2 is right?’
Most have no idea, of course. A few push for ‘pre-industrial levels’ of around 200-250 ppm.
Then I ask them how they are going to cope with agricultural yields going down 50%….
Then Dodgy ask them what is their ideal world temperature. That really gets their angora.
I bet the all did some form of alphabet studies.
Ballard prophesied Extinction Webellion in his 2003 book, “Millennial People”.
Humans are tribal. They must belong to a tribe at all times. It makes them feel better and less vulnerable as part of a group. They arent bothered about the details of the tribe as long as they seem ok on the surface. Whether its a football team, cycling club, the WI, a political party, climate activists, pro jab, anti jab, christian, muslim, or even a blogsite. It is in our DNA. We are a very new species compared with every other around us and have a lot of evolving to do which will have to happen one way or another if we are not to be confined to the weird species bin of extinct life forms of which there have been many in the past.
The only role of ‘models’ is to use them to formulate a falsifiable hypothesis using real-world experimental data. Models are not truth, they are not science, they are just a mechanism to come up with a falsifiable hypothesis.
That is what they should be, what they are presented as is ‘The Science’ which is truth and may not be questioned.
Sadly the vast majority of the population accept this as being so.
Sadly, the majority of the population has forgotten whatever little mathematics it might have had.
If they taught basic risk assessment in schools, Mr Gates’s vaxxes would not have made him so rich.
None of the Global puppets will deviate from their instructions whatever the evidence, they have been programmed to follow the program
‘but the U.K. Met Office’s record of surface temperature from 1975 was boosted by 14% at the end of 2020.’
With any luck they used the Pfizer booster in which case they will likely have a stroke and die.
Whilst yet another piece of reality is welcomed, it is not “news” to us weather realists.
It just adds to the dozens of similar articles on Bishophill.com WUWT.com, JoanneNova.com, Tony Heller – the list of truthful websites showing the criminal manipulation of so called climate science goes on and on.
Will it make any difference?
I doubt it, but at least it lets the enemy know we are still fighting for truth.
I decided a few years ago, to leave activity climate for a bit, to wait for something to happen (because absolutely nothing was happening). Unfortunately, absolutely nothing is still happening. At this rate I may have to become a buddhist (reincarnation joke)
Ole Humlum has a very good website, http://www.climate4you.com that should be added to the list of sceptical websites.
Most alarmists will refuse point blank to look at any of these sights, but their main function could be seen as providing sceptics with hard data to use when discussing climate change with friends/family etc.
As with the covid19 con job those in authority know that if the censor open debate and force feed the masses, who only consume MSM, their narrative that they can get the bulk of people to accept just about anything.
How many people these days will vigourously insist that an African playing for the English team is just as English as they are?
How many will insist that all things gay are the height of normality?
How many, although instinctively against the trans insanity, will indue course be fully in favour having been indoctrinated?
Next up they will want to legalise child sex and then I imagine they will want to normalise bestiality.
God knows what is on the menu after that?
‘God knows what is on the menu after that?’
Lowering the age of consent for cats?
Given there are some people that ‘identify’ as a cat I’m sure the perverts in power have it on their list.
What’s on the menu after that?
Ultimately it’s a spiral towards fascism. It might start with censorship on ungood think, it might evolve into imprisoning dissidents and then torture, but ultimately it’ll probably go back to its usual path and the same minorities will be the targets again. It doesn’t really matter who fascism targets, the easier the target, the better. See the Ukraine, where apparently gypsies are being tied to lamposts and stripped from the waist down. That didn’t take long to diversify from persecuting ethnic Russians.
The logical next step is abortions up to one year after birth.
One year only? What are you a Trump supporter? Surely parents should have the right to terminate their kids up to the age of 18. (/sarc off)
Sounds like a vote winner
One can only wonder at what the Met Office’s justification might have been, in altering the data so as to give a false impression.
Oh, don’t worry. They’ll have a story…
Climate change is much worse than the unadulterated figures suggest, so the historic data must be incorrect and needs adjusting until the truth reveals itself. That’s the only explanation, surely?
Much the same as Starmer’s for not prosecuting Saville or the groomers …
I’ve just been on a Metro train in Helsinki and there was an ad for peanut butter or some kind of ‘dip’ from a jar… with the slogan ‘Climate Smart’ slapped onto the label.
This is the sick society we live in now.
UK elections? What will happen is that the Conservatives will get in again… and it will just be more of the same. Cuddly Boris will make sure he ends up with a comfy next ‘job’ or ‘pension’.
That’s my ‘conspiracy theory’.
Chinese bus driver on the bus I came on. They are taking over gradually. Bit by bit the world is turning into cheap copies of China.
For now. The backlash, especially where you currently reside, will be brutal. They have form. Easily pushed around until they snap. A microcosm of Europe.
EF is a warrior. He’ll sort it out. He’s probably on his way to the house of the Finnish PM for ‘a word.’
Eating lentils is good for your health AND good for the Planet according to Luvvie & National Treasure Stephen Fry in an ad for one of the woke supermarkets.
Altogether children, repeat after me: I must grow up to be a mindless blob.
It’s always good to be lectured by a millionaire Thesp and Bandwagoneer.
Indeed. He is the herds idea of an intellectual. Good delivery mind you.
Seeds? No thanks. Undigestable, and designed to be shat out and hence multiply.
Not food for humans. Stick to animal products and you won’t go wrong.
“a mindless queer blob”
Therefore it for you.
you have to love how they quote this “global average” (whatever the **** that is) to 2 places of precision. Just proves it’s meaningless b*ll*cks.
The largest Continent and the one ‘warming the most’ is the Antarctic which has no weather stations except a handful on the West coast.
The ‘warming’ of the Antarctic is determined by computer modelling which cannot be verified because there are no instruments on Antarctica to check. The same is true for the Arctic with weather stations being at the perimeter but not the centre.
Most of the oceans, most of Africa and Asia, Latin America, Siberia have no temperature monitors.
The instruments used from which ‘average global temperatures’ are extrapolated are not calibrated to a reference instrument, are of varying accuracy, many have been moved or started off in green fields but now surrounded by Human activity. Any ‘average’ so calculated is likely to be within plus/minus 2C or 3C – so meaningless when small fractions of change are being proposed.
As for satellite sensing. This is not direct temperature reading and the data sets were originally calibrated using the Surface Temperature record, so if you start with error…
Now now, what’s with all this dangerous logic. Don’t you know there is a war on?
I am disappointed to learn that, contrary to what we are assured by the media, the climate is not warming after all. Since the government seems determined to prevent us heating our homes, I was hoping for some rapid global warming to compensate.
PS. Boris I won’t be voting for the conservatives again until my fuel bills are returned to normal.
Your fuel bills are normal. When the state intervenes in anything it becomes expensive, even if they manage to hide the expense initially. You can’t cheat real life.
Plus, much of this is driven by fanatics who want energy to be expensive so we will voluntarily ration it.
Lies, damned lies and global temperatures. The only thing global temperatures tell us, is how gullible most politicians are.
Years ago I asked a Professor at university and who was a global warming zealot, what the percentage of CO2 was in the atmosphere and what was mankind’s contribution towards this total (I already knew the answer)? He looked flustered and said he should know this answer but could not recall exactly, and that he would get back to me – he never did…
Basically, he did not want the fellow students to know that the total CO2 in the atmosphere is around 0.04% and that mankind contributes a ‘massive’ 3.5% towards this figure; hence 96.5% of all CO2 in the atmosphere is from natural causes. So, even if you do accept CO2 is the main driver of global temperatures (which I do not) how can it possibly be mankind’s fault?
Man-made Global Warming is just another fraud being foisted upon the bulk of humanity and by the usual suspects. It is time to remove these fraudsters and criminals from our lives. After the past two years I have simply had enough of them.
Things survive because they serve a need. Fraud is certainly a factor. But so it angst. People want a looming catastrophe as it gives meaning to them.
No idea what the solution to that is except economic collapse.
Yes, very good point. What you’re actually discussing is eschatology, end-of-the world-is-nigh syndrome. The belief of the eschatologist is essential to his coping with the hopeless way he feels about his life. It is painfully upsetting to a climate doomsayer to undermine his belief in catastrophic global warming caused by the wickedness of mankind. The only comfort is to give him another reason, even an opposite one, for believing mankind is destroying the world. I remember the flip from global cooling, imminent new ice age, to global warming in the 80s. A lot of people, even supposed scientists, just changed from supporting one scare to the opposite one without a blip.
There are worse insanities … like burning witches. Perhaps we should be thankful that the eco-nutters aren’t more insane.
Well, that would add to atmospheric CO2!
Economic collapse is on the way.
And ONLY that C02 emitted from fossil fuels causes global warming.
Take that calculation a few steps further, using known historical data from 1850, project it out, and the 0.001% of CO2 mankind contributes to the atmosphere would take 25,000 years to warm the planet by 2ºC.
That’s assuming all warming is the exclusive domain of CO2.
The other question to ask is how many volcanoes, fissures and vents are on the seabeds of the world.
No one knows of course, it took until 2018 before 91 volcanoes were discovered under the West Antarctic ice sheet. 70% of the world is covered by oceans.
The question we should be asking is, what don’t we know about climate change?
Here we go again.
total CO2 in the atmosphere is around 0.04%
The concentration of CO2 is irrelevant. What matters is how much CO2 (and other greenhouse gasses) are in the atmosphere, not how much it is compared to all the other non-greenhouse gasses.
mankind contributes a ‘massive’ 3.5% towards this figure;
No it doesn’t. There is strong evidence that about 30% of the current CO2 is contributed by man. You are confusing it with the fact that about 3.5% of the CO2 input is man-made. However, before that 3.5% was added the CO2 inputs and outputs were more or less in balance. It appears that we have contributed almost all the additional CO2 since it started to rise at the beginning of the last century.
NOAA is reporting that average temperatures are dropping. If your AGW hypothesis is true, how do explain that?
Short term variation. Global climate change can only be measured sensibly by smoothing the record over decades.
What is the ‘correct’ level of CO2 in the atmosphere?
And what is the ‘correct’ global temperature?
‘More or less in balance’? LOL! What, pray, is the ‘correct’ level of CO2 in the atmosphere?
And what is the ‘correct’ global temperature?
CO2 does not drive climate change. When you finally bring yourself to accept that fact, the scales will fall from your eyes about all the MSM propaganda.
The future is fixed, the past is changeable.
It is the modus operandi of climate charlatans that when the data doesn’t fit the claim, change the data.
They have cooled the past and warmed the present twice before. At this rate there will have been an Ice Age in the 50s that nobody at the time noticed.
Note that just because changes to the temperature record show an increased rise in temperature it doesn’t mean the changes were not justified (remember improvements to the satellite data also showed an increased rise in temperature). In any case the difference is not that large. See the attached diagram (extracted from Humlum’s report) showing HADCRUT4, HADCRUT5 infilled and HADCRUT5 not infilled.
The big excuse for changing previous temperature is the excuse that the max/min thermometers they were using were “double counting” some days. This can easily be checked, because there is only one yearly max/min, and therefore the yearly max/min doesn’t suffer from the problem. And when people check the trend in the yearly max/min, they find it doesn’t support the climate hysteria … which is why we never hear the Met Office or other climate loonies talking about it.
By the double counting problem I assume you mean the problem that arises when you change the time of day of recording. As I understand it, this only applies to the US record as they had a large change in the time of day of observation – globally it has little effect. I believe Berkeley doesn’t make that adjustment (it identifies cases where there is a significant step change (up or down) in a station relative to others nearby, assumes this is down to the method of recording, and adjusts accordingly, this would take account of changes due to time of day of recording). In any case it doesn’t account for the difference between HADCRUT4 and HADCRUT5 as this adjustment was made at least 10 years ago.
I wasn’t aware of the effort to monitor the trend in annual maxima/minima and would be interested to see the reference.
Oh, dear. I own a nice bridge in London – would you like to buy it?
This is not science this is FRAUD.
A criminal offence.
What is?
Adjusting the historical figures in order to make the current ones look bigger. Try that sort of thing with your financial records and you end up in gaol.
The disclosure of the apparent warming and cooling is contained in the latest State of the Climate report from Emeritus Professor Ole Humlum of the University of Oslo…
Er…no.
This is NOT a ‘new disclosure’. It has been noticed and remarked upon by many commentators over the past 10 or more years, And no one took the slightest notice.
Why do we think that anything will change now? NO ONE who believes in Global Warming is actually looking at the data to see what it says about the climate. They look at the data to see which items provide support for them. When they do not find such support, they make it up. When they find contrary evidence, they ignore or smear it.
Dodgy can I nominate you for a Nobel prize in common sense?
It’s not as if “adjusting the past” (always in a cooling direction oddly enough) is a recent practice. Prof John Brignell of the old “Numberwatch” blog was criticising it in 2007.
“Mental warning lights flicker when the phrase “high-quality” appears in each of the first two sentences. It is redolent of the salesman’s patter – never mind the quality, feel the width. There are other warning phrases such as “several adjustments” or “empirical model”, enough to raise the hackles of an experienced PhD examiner. But any such reservations pale into insignificance compared with the effect of the overall adjustment.”
He produced (or found) a graph (see below) created by removing the “adjustments” from the final figures and stated
“Not only is the total adjustment sufficient to account for a large proportion of the claimed temperature rise, but as a graph against time it is just the right shape to give support to the claim that the rise is post-industrial. Such a coincidence is more than enough to make an old-fashioned scientist feel, to say the least, uncomfortable”.
Thank you Baron how I miss such sensible real scientists as John Brignall.
Unfortunately many (most) scientists in employment are blackmailed (can I still use that expression?) into supporting the great fraud.
They must wait until they become ’emeritus’ to tell the truth or they jepordise their pension.
Hence many of the greats are now deceased.
Do others think that an informed response to climate change enthusiasm (also vaxes, wokeism etc. etc.) by fellow travellers, zealots and ‘experts’ should be the same as to the knock of a JW type caller – ” thanks, but I’m not interested”. In an era when people have shown themselves to be moronically stupid, is it not better to altogether just ignore things that one knows (or inately feels) to be nonsense designed only to exert control over the gullible masses? Why waste time and energy on things that bring no fulfillment?
I am beginning to wonder if that is the point of all this. With climate alarmism they often quote obviously false information, like the piece above.
But is the point to distract us? Look at how much effort truth seekers of varying stripes, including those in academia, exert on disproving the latest claim. All that attention is on nonsense, and is not then being applied to anything positive or useful. How much of your own life will you spend fighting off the imposition of smart meters and heat pumps? That is time you don’t get back.
I sometimes wonder if all this is a meta game to distract us.
Over the years, I’ve come to realise that many of the conspiracy theories we hear about are as you describe “just to distract us”. For example the UFO conspiracy .. to hide the U2 planes, the 911 conspiracy … to hide the failure of the CIA to heed the warnings of its own operatives. Nasa moon landing conspiracy … to divert media attention away from the fact that Nasa was a total waste of money.
The only conspiracy that doesn’t appear to have a rational origin … is the chemtrail conspiracy. My only thought is that someone thinks that flying airplanes at the most sensitive part of the atmosphere, might be affecting climate, and therefore they are preparing the counter attack of “you’re just a chemtrail conspiracy theorist”.
Confirmation of what I’ve always believed. Give monkeys rubber stamps with the word ‘APPROVED’ on plus a little incentive and they’ll stamp anything. We might expect better but don’t hold your breath.
The Great Nudge Unit in the sky?
Gives a new meaning to the words ‘Cloud Computing’.
Aaaah, clouds. Could they have been the culprit all the time?
Of course they are the culprit … the question isn’t whether it was the clouds, but what was it that was causing the clouds to change and will it continue?
LOL (for those who are not in the know … the one thing the Met Office hate … is that fact that clouds cause most of the climate change).
I have a feeling we are going to see a lot more adjustments to the historical “records” to hide the gradual decline in global temperatures which appears to have started a while ago.
There is evidence the climate is warming, whether that is humanity or nature is not clear. The other problem is our contribution is 1%, so we can do nothing about it. but the green loons and their elite-landowning-overlords want to turn us all back to the time of dark age serfdom. Better buy that horse and cart now before prices rocket.
And with the shortage of fertilizer, the dung could do wonders for my rhubarb.
For the last five million years the climate has been cooling, for the last 5000 years the climate has been cooling, for the last five years the climate has been cooling. Would you care to name the period over which you make your assertion that … of one of the many different periods that could be chosen to assess climate that it just happens to be warming?
UAH V6.0 satellite observations of the lower troposphere do show some warming, if not as fast as surface-based data that is suspect. UAH_LT_1979_thru_March_2022_v6.jpg (749×432) (drroyspencer.com)
Just “fortifying” the data.
Fake pie in the sky science underpinning Fake pie in the sky technology, the Green Blob in a nutshell, just one big scam.
How to manupilate and lie with statistics. These clown make fool of sheeple
So, the Met Office lies? Is there a y in the day?
I should imagine that song has been cancelled.
“The data doesn’t matter. We’re not basing our recommendations on the data. We’re basing them on the climate models.”
