Sunday Times Changes Tune on Covid Restrictions

The Sunday Times has done a volte face on lockdown restrictions, now praising Boris for ignoring the warnings about lifting restrictions last year. Has it forgotten its own role in signal boosting those warnings?

3 min read

The Sunday Times has a long analytical piece today about how Britain beat Covid – a combination of vaccines, natural immunity and luck, apparently. The paper’s Data Projects Editor, Tom Calver, says one contributory factor was the Government’s decision to lift all restrictions on July 19th of last year, thereby ensuring that by the time we faced an Autumn wave many people who’d been infected and recovered over the summer had natural immunity:

About 22 million have caught it since July 19th, 2021 — England’s ‘freedom day’, when many Covid restrictions were removed. Britain was one of the few countries to maintain relatively high infection rates throughout 2021, yet hospital admissions never breached unsafe levels.

There were other reasons for opening up when we did. A supporter at the time, Paul Hunter, professor in medicine at the University of East Anglia, said: “Leaving step four until the autumn carried a far greater risk. Delaying the opening of society would have pushed back more infections into the autumn, at a time when pressures on the health service may have been greater.

“There is a real case for the argument that opening society when we did and the resulting infection rates enabled us to avoid a big surge in hospitalisations and deaths this winter.”

What Calver neglects to mention is that the Sunday Times has been one of the biggest supporters of Covid restrictions.

Take this story, which the paper ran on July 18th, the day before restrictions were lifted: “Johnson swelters over ‘freedom day’ mayhem“. It begins:

Britain faces disruption to food supplies, transport networks and industry as COVID-19’s third wave intensifies, hours before Boris Johnson is set to lift most pandemic restrictions.

One of Britain’s largest retailers warned of “major disruption” that could leave gaps on shelves, while parts of the London Underground closed yesterday because of the number of staff instructed to self-isolate.

Then there was the notorious Sunday Times Insight Team report on Boris Johnson’s apparent failure to lockdown sooner and harder – “38 days when Britain sleepwalked into disaster” – an article that helped to frame the debate over whether to lockdown again and which, arguably, increased the pressure on the Government to impose further unnecessary lockdowns in November 2020 and January 2021. Indeed, that was probably the intention of the paper’s key source – described as “a senior adviser to Downing Street” and almost certainly Dominic Cummings. Here is an extract:

One day there will be an inquiry into the lack of preparations during those “lost” five weeks from January 24th. There will be questions about when politicians understood the severity of the threat, what the scientists told them and why so little was done to equip the National Health Service for the coming crisis. It will be the politicians who will face the most intense scrutiny.

Among the key points likely to be explored are why it took so long to recognise an urgent need for a massive boost in supplies of personal protective equipment (PPE) for health workers; ventilators to treat acute respiratory symptoms; and tests to detect the infection.

Any inquiry may also ask whether the Government’s failure to get to grips with the scale of the crisis in those early days had the knock-on effect of the national lockdown being introduced days or even weeks too late, causing many thousands more unnecessary deaths.

We have talked to scientists, academics, doctors, emergency planners, public officials and politicians about the root of the crisis and whether the Government should have known sooner and acted more swiftly to kick-start the Whitehall machine and put the NHS onto a war footing.

When that inquiry does eventually come, I hope it doesn’t confine itself to the terms of reference that – until recently – the Sunday Times has been pushing for: Why didn’t our bumbling Prime Minister lock down sooner and harder in 2020? A proper inquiry would look at the role of the mainstream media, and papers like the Sunday Times, in enthusiastically supporting what we now know to be the most catastrophic policy in Britain’s history.

Subliminal ‘prepping’ for lock-up and worse for next ‘virus’ on WEFetal’s list, HIV; which could be cover-story for jab-damage.
Preferable if ‘alternate media’ didn’t promulgate mauling by MSM or use it to divert own readers to ridiculing ST while leaving global issues unaddressed.
In my personal view, what we now have is a thoroughly established, endless routine, globally, of lock-ups and worse brutality to jab all with synthetic mRNA, for each and every one of trillions of virus there are.
That issue needs tackling and real enemy of all is WEFetal, compared to which ST is too trivial to even notice.

The contribution of the ‘Sunday Times’ overblown print edition to Global warming and the Carbon Footprint is clearly significant and the paper should be required by Nut Nuts Diktat to cut the print edition down to just four pages – that should be sufficient to print anything worth reading.

Triple Vaccinated accounted for majority of Covid-19 Cases, Hospitalisations & Deaths in England during January
By The Exposé on February 14, 2022
It is mainly the triple vaccinated population who have had to stay at home, taken up vital beds in NHS hospitals, and forced their loved ones to grieve and say goodbye to them this winter.
Because according to official data published by the UK Health Security Agency the triple vaccinated population accounted for the vast majority of Covid-19 cases, hospitalisations and deaths in January.
“Get Boosted Now” has been playing like a broken record on every news channel and radio station, with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson urging Brits to get a third dose of the Covid-19 vaccine to ensure they had “full protection” against the alleged new Omicron variant of Covid-19.
But data published by the UK Health Security Agency on Thursday 10th Feb 22, confirms that the NHS turning into the National Booster Service this winter has been a complete waste of time.
The following chart shows the number of Covid-19 cases by vaccination status in England between 10th Jan and 6th feb 22. The data has been collated from table 9… Read more »

Sunday Times yesterday did a hatchet job on Canadian protests under guise of a travel article in travel section.
I thought this was very strange
I did email Dailysceptic to flag this up given that hardly anyone reads travel section but this email seems to have been ignored .
Anyway here is a summary of the email
“Sunday Times using the Travel supplement to do a hatchet job on the Canadian protests.

All the memes are referenced

  • “air of menace”
  • arson, violence, threats

Never before has mainstream media been so guilty of misinformation and plain lies. This has been going on for the last 2 years.

The situation is the same in India where media insists on parroting Covid propaganda despite clear evidence that lockdowns did not work (Johns Hopkins meta analysis of 25 studies), cloth or surgical masks are more or less useless (Danish and Bangladesh randomised studies), that children just do not perish post infection ( even after MIS-C), that vaccines take one more susceptible to Omicron after 90 days, that inspite almost 50% Israeli population boosted cases continue to skyrocket as never before. Vaccines do not prevent infection, transmission, hospital admission, nor deaths.

Ivermectin has been extensively used in India, especially in northern states with spectacular results.

But mentioning this success is worse than taboo, you become a target of the most vicious disparaging possible.

I have more than 40 years of clinical experience as a physician and cardiologist, have used ivermectin in all my covid patients, with the result that every one recovered and not one landed in hospital.

The latest patient is a middle aged lady with hypertension, dilated ascending aorta, moderate aortic regurgitation and coronary stenting… Read more »

On thing I have noticed is how you are portrayed as an unfeeling monster if you dare to question anyone for wearing a mask. More than once I have been told to leave people alone, asked why I am being so horrible, etc. I asked a friend’s daughter why she felt the need to wear one- particularly outside- and her Mother jumped down my throat as though I was trying to abduct her. ‘Leave her alone- if it makes her feel safe, why do have have to upset her?’ Of course, the whole thing then became about why I refused to wear one, why I was so selfish, why I wouldn’t do ‘such a small thing’ if it makes other people feel secure. I’m afraid there really is no hope when people don’t want to be woken up…

The Sunday Times agreed with all the Covid restrictions I cannot believe for the life of me , why so many well educated people fell for this scam it has not killed barely any under 18s or under 25s yet two years of life has been taken away to date or find a life partner find a career after university, or just well make friends so much the young could do and healthy young people who let’s face are not going to live with people in their mid sixties or seventies who will be their grandparents.

I think 20 Year olds had no chance of dying or even people aged 28 I was 28 in May 2020 it makes me so angry, that so many people sacrificed their lives so the elderly those in their seventies and eighties obese could live longer. I would not probably get the jab if I was seventy it is not a proper vaccine, it is still in trials yet some elderly like young people wear masks outside and in their cars and fall for the scam

Despicable newspaper and people. Who cares what they print theyre a bunch of liars and their readership are a bunch of fools. Jabbed fools who will likely die prematurely and suffer increased degenerative illness and infect those around them who they would describe as their nearest and dearest by stupidly continuing to believe in these deceivers who have violated their mind body and soul for a slow drip feed of money. The Sunday Times is part of the problem, not the solution, end of. The Sunday Times readership has been criminally misled into being injected with a military bioweapon by the dishonest journalists who work there. When they print that on their front page ill listen, until then the Sunday Times remains toilet roll.

Meanwhile real journalists are uncovering the real crimes being committed, rather than covering them up and setting the scene for future similar crimes to be committed against us all by the treasonous vermin in HMG and their criminal paymasters. This presentation by RussBrown is incredible, he has put together a very strong hypothesis based on the scientific literature as to what is actually going on here. Fully referenced.

The ST has, throughout, run with the hare and hunted with the hounds. The medical analyses have always been skewed, and people like Lawson have been allowed space to write articles which, whilst gormless nonsense, have been both defamatory of people like Sunetra Gupta and scurrilous of others.

This guttersnipe and dishonest journalism is evident throughout. It runs through the newspaper like lettering in a stick of rock.

Of course, it has been bought by the government. Today’s issue has a full page ad (“promoted content”) extolling boosters and jabs.

That and ‘it’s no big deal to wear a mask’ plus claims that those who don’t are ‘selfish’. The level of delusion is so high that those spouting this nonsense cannot see that actually muzzles cause many problems but have no demonstrable impact on an airborne virus, so it’s them who are being ‘selfish’ in expecting people to wear them.

Unfortunately Annie, the advent of computers and the Internet has made the modern day equivalent of memory holes at Minitrue much easier than even Orwell could have imagined. We are in serious trouble when the majority of our population can no longer remember further back than a year, relying on Google for memory recall.

Sometimes I wonder if the evil powers behind this have modelled some of it on 1984. You could argue that newspeak is slowly becoming real, doublethink is certainly widespread, and we seem to be entering a never-ending war with Eurasia. Oh and people have telescreens sitting in their living rooms, fitted with cameras and microphones provided by our trusted overlords Jeff Bezos and Larry Page.

When the reckoning comes, which I hope it does, it should not only be the government that is held to account but the entire government-media complex, of which the government is only a part. We need to stop thinking of the mainstream media as the business of journalists. There are no journalists working in the mainstream media.

What we have had over the past two years from the mainstream media is an amplifying of government propaganda. Nothing else. They ought to be seen as indistinguishable from the government itself. I can no longer see any meaningful difference between the two.

The argument that opening up in July 2021 was the right thing to do because it raises natural immunity and avoided overburdening the NHS in autumn 2021 is of course correct.

But that argumemt was equally correct in May 2020. The government should have scrapped all its restrictions then – but instead it introduced masks and other new restrictions and put us through an extra year of unnecessary torture.

We’ll see a lot of this from the instigators of Covidism in the coming months and years.
Media, Government officials, large businesses etc will fall over themselves to disociate from their part in the mishandling of the virus, what history will show to not much worse than the flu.
We must hold them all account so they all get their day in court.

As the lies slowly unravel, the drug-pushing purveyors of tyranny are all deftly removing their brownshirts and trying to hide among the civilian population who they first terrorised and then, using their willing accomplices and paid enforcers, beat into submission for two long years.

Dont let those behind this failed corporate/technocratic takeover of society re-write history in their favour.

The experimental, genetic engineering, medical procedures that were illegally forced onto a subjugated and terrified people have not saved one single life. They have, however, murdered hundreds of thousands, maimed millions and the suffering will echo down through the generations into eternity.

Somehow, sometime, someplace, there has to be a day of reckoning for these psychopaths. To ensure this has the best chance of success, we must never let their lexicon of lies become historical currency.

I hope so- but I fear it will not happen. So many people I know- including friends who I used to consider strong minded individuals still think it was the right thing to do, should have been done sooner, shouldn’t have eased of when we did, should still be imposing restrictions, etc. My best friend of over 40 years still insists on having a chair between us in coffee shops, carries sanitiser, thinks it’s ‘too soon’ and people are relaxing too much and getting too close, etc. He was constantly demanding another lockdown in December and lays the blame for the 2nd/3rd waves at the ‘idiots’ who ignored the rules…I see this daily in shops and whilst out and about. People in general are still terrified and talk of ‘staying safe’ and ‘can’t take the risk’ are commonplace. I have always thought most people were sheep like, but even I have been stunned by how easily and quickly this all happened.

This is a little off-topic but many visitors here are bound to be interested:

“Where can I travel without a vaccine?”
“Travelling to Europe is easier and cheaper if you are vaccinated but unvaccinated travellers can still get into 23 countries in Europe quarantine-free.”
According to the i, in 11 of those countries proof of a recent infection is accepted in lieu of a test, and 3 (Lithuania, Iceland, Austria) won’t let you in without it.

“There is not a single country in Europe that will let in UK [sic] visitors without some sort of Covid documentation.”

Regarding Norway, they say

Norway

Entry requirements for unvaccinated: Proof of a negative Covid-19 test taken less than 24 hours before arrival.

Extra testing costs for the unvaccinated? Yes. £25 for extra antigen test.

The article is dated today, 13 Feb. Whether they’re right about Norway I’m not sure.

It will be disastrous if they establish a received opinion that the “vaccines” supposedly “saved us”. A recipe for future pharma dependence and lockdowns etc “while a vaccine is developed”.

That’s why, for me, the case against the “vaccines” has always been more moral and political than practical.

Julian

I fear it is already the received opinion – it covers up the lies and makes people feel like all the pain was for something and reassures people. I think it will be hard to dislodge that. If you asked a lot of people what should be done next time, I would hope many would say that locking down for two years while vaccines were prepared and rolled out would be too long, but their answer to that would be to hope that the vaccines can be done quicker next time, and of course that’s the answer that the satanic politicians and potion salesmen will give.

I think the starting point was always that lockdowns must be rejected on their face, regardless of the supposed emergency.

It would be interesting to see an honestly done bit of opinion polling that examined people’s attitudes to this now.

I think there are several levels to the vaccine business.

My reading of the evidence is that they don’t really work, and probably do more harm than good, but others see it differently. However even if you think they work for some people, evidence for a need among the healthy is weak to non existent. The case for a mass vaccination program involving whole populations, costing billions, just doesn’t exist unless you believe the Big Lie that covid was a Deadly Pandemic. Even some senior UK public health figures framed the vaxx program in terms of the vulnerable, to start with. Something very sinister must have happened to change that message, as the change cannot have been on medical grounds.

How any sceptic can support the mass vaxx program is beyond me, even if you think they “work” a bit. Evidence for their efficacy for most/all is so marginal that refusing to take it on political grounds alone is probably called for.

The lack of informed consent more or less makes the whole thing unethical immediately, and once you throw in coercion and mandates you’re in dark territory.

Everywhere you look there are substantive legal challenges from Canada, the USA to Germany to Australia. It looks to me like the globalist cabal behind this megafraud are under real pressure; they have gone too far too fast under (I think) CIA cover and must know that they are a house of cards. As far as they’ve been able to buy huge amounts of influence and power, you can’t bribe everyone everywhere and there are enough military, political and business leaders not on the payroll and with some sense of morality to topple the whole enterprise. Not just Covid but globalism itself. So it’s no real surprise that we see The Times performing such acrobatics and trying to revise history and move everyone along. I hope we the people can keep the heat on them even if they crawl back under their rock.
