A man is taking legal action over the "despicable" conditions at a Government-approved quarantine hotel. He says the treatment he received left him "traumatised" and suffering from depression.
Some industry leaders say that the end of self-isolation rules for double jabbed Brits who are 'pinged' is "dangerous" and "totally illogical", adding that staff who choose to stay at home should be supported.
Fully vaccinated Brits will not have to self-isolate if they come into contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid from Monday, unless they also test positive. The rules will not change for the unvaccinated.
Complaints of "prison-like" conditions at quarantine hotels, costing Red List travellers £1,750 for 10 days, don't seem to have led to any improvements, with one Brit now saying his hotel has a rodent infestation.
The number of 'pings' sent out by the NHS Covid app in a week has finally fallen but remains very high, with almost 400,000 people in England and Wales alone having been told to isolate by the app in just seven days.
Japan has publicly named three quarantine rule breakers and has threatened to do the same to others, after telling young people to “share the sense of crisis” by wearing face masks and avoiding having parties.
The update to the NHS Covid app comes "too little, too late", say business leaders. Hundreds of thousands of workers are still likely to be 'pinged' each week, meaning the 'pingdemic' is far from over.
The 'pingdemic' continues to wreak havoc on businesses that are trying desperately to recover from the damage caused by lockdown, with one in 10 pubs and restaurants having been forced to close over the past month.
Are Brits beginning to rebel against the 'pingdemic'? Official figures show that almost a quarter of the 250,000 people contacted by Test and Trace two weeks ago refused to disclose their recent close contacts.
Another week, another record in the number of people told to self-isolate by the NHS Covid app. In the week up to July 21st, 689,313 'pings' were sent out by the app – an increase of 11.4% increase on the week before.
