The catastrophic mishandling of the pandemic by incompetent politicians and bureaucrats was not an issue in the recent Australian election, which means all the mistakes will be repeated if there's another pandemic.
Britain has weathered the Covid storm reasonably well – unlike China. Things are nearly back to normal here, but judging from the Winter Olympics China has become a fully-fledged biosecurity state.
We are now perhaps emerging blinking into a life without Covid rules and yet the masks and their wearers are still everywhere. The natural world is unchanged, but the human world is still dystopian.
According to Lord Sumption, liberal democracies are in peril because their citizens want the state to do more and more to protect them from minor, everyday risks and are happy to sacrifice their liberty in return.
