Keir Starmer is quitting as an MP after being ousted from No. 10 by Andy Burnham, triggering a by-election, in yet another U-turn after he previously promised to stay on, it was revealed today. The Mail has more.
The former PM previously insisted he would stay on as the member for Holborn and St Pancras.
However, in one final U-turn he has now opted to resign his seat, triggering a potentially tricky by-election for Labour against the Greens.
The move immediately prompted speculation that Sir Keir could pitch for the Nato general secretary job.
It could also open the door for a comeback by a Labour big beast in a relatively safe seat – with David Miliband long the subject of rumours.
Allies paid tribute to the former premier’s political career. But Burnham sniped at his predecessor by telling Cabinet this morning that the public had noticed a “change of pace” since he took over.
Sir Keir told his local paper, the Camden New Journal, that he was ready to “pass the baton to a successor” and wanted to focus on “international affairs”. …
In June Sir Keir’s spokesman was adamant that he was “going to remain” as an MP at least for the rest of the Parliament.
Sir Keir has represented the north London constituency for 11 years, having been director of public prosecutions before entering politics.

Most jarring for me was his statement:
““I will also continue, as I have done for a long time now with others, to work on combating violence against women and girls; that is an issue that matters to me hugely.”
Translation: “ I AM PROUD of making British protesters against the Southport Stabbing Violence Against Women & Girls FEEL THE FULL FORCE OF THE LAW, as I urged judges to FAST-TRACK patriots into HARSH PRISON TERMS FOR PROTESTING or even TWEETING.”
The hypocrisy is off the scale.

Ah yes, as PM he could not or would not increase defence spending even to three per cent. Even the party amount claimed included funding Afghan immigrants, replacement equipment for losses suffered in Afghan and Iraq2 and DEI.
He continued the fraud, introduced by the Tories, of adding secret fund costs to defence without altering comparative numbers. All to deceive.
Starmer showed no recognition of the need for better defence, no empathy with the troops. He was largely responsible for persecuting retired troops who did their duty to the dislike of the left.
What a dud.
If appointed Reform should make it clear that on their taking office he will leave forthwith. So: a big DPP pension, a big PM pension, £100,000 pa tax free as a former PM and now he wants to trough it in NATO. He learned well from Blair.
Perpetuating the Ukraine project is of far greater importance to the globalists than petty national defence!
How will he get the NATO job considering his history of underfunding the UK armed forces?

Starmer has stated he now wants to turn his attentions to international affairs, but that’s where his attentions have always been. He is a globalist through and through. Before becoming PM he was a member of the Trilateral Commission, an influential billionaire run organisation that many western leaders have belonged to BEFORE gaining high office. When he stated that he prefers Davos to Downing Street it wasn’t a glib comment, it was considered opinion. I’m sure the revolving door of top international jobs will be opened for him. This self serving traitor was never there to put our best interests first.
Indeed the elites have not done with him yet.

The gilt market seems to have noticed something, that’s for sure. Today 30 year bonds passed even their peak of Starmer’s premiership. Time to retreat to the bunker?

I think the bond markets was a global thing not just the UK, but of course if our idiot governments had not run up a huge debt it would not matter much.
Does that mean his sole aim and purpose of becoming an MP was as the pathway to being PM – a job for which he was entirely unsuitable and not competent? Now he has lost the prize, being an MP is of no utility and a hindrance to getting a new position where his unsuitability and incompetence can find new outlet.
It does tell us much about the character of the man – a grifter.
Andy Capp became MP to fulfil his ambition of being PM. We await confirmation of his unsuitability and incompetence, but the signs are already showing.
Well after being such a resounding success nationally I guess working for the electorate on local issues was beneath him. Pretty sure the NATO job isn’t available for another two years. Maybe transfer deadline day has confused him.
Another place speculated that he might eventually take over from Mark Rutte in 2028.
The job of UN General Secretary is comming vacant at the end of this year. Needs someone of similar (Islamo-Communist) ‘persuasion’ to replace Comrade Ayatollah Guterres.
