Labour cares only about who it can tax in order to pay more in benefits to others, Work and Pensions Secretary Pat McFadden complained to Lord Mandelson. The Telegraph has more.
As Sir Keir Starmer’s enforcer in Cabinet, Pat McFadden told the disgraced peer that every meeting he had with members of the Parliamentary Labour Party concerned the question: “Who can we tax in order to pay benefits to others?”
The comments were seized on by the Conservatives, who branded Labour “the welfare party”.
The frank exchange forms part of the Government’s release of more than 1,500 pages of emails and WhatsApp messages relating to Lord Mandelson’s time as the UK’s ambassador to the US.
The document release on Monday – the largest laid before Parliament since the 2016 Chilcot Inquiry – was demanded by MPs in the wake of Lord Mandelson’s sacking and fresh revelations about his friendship with the convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
The damning emails and texts paint a picture of a Government at war with itself, led by a Prime Minister lacking the flair to tackle the challenges facing Britain.
Among the explosive exchanges between Lord Mandelson and McFadden were texts sent in the weeks before a major Government climbdown over welfare cuts.
Last July, No. 10 backed down on £5 billion of cuts to personal independence payments. The climbdown is regarded as the moment Sir Keir ceded power to the soft Left of the parliamentary Labour Party.
McFadden is now the Work and Pensions Secretary, in charge of Britain’s ballooning welfare bill.

“The comments were seized on by the Conservatives, who branded Labour “the welfare party”. “
That’s hilarious. Labour created the welfare state in its first term 1945 – 1950.
Has the Conservative Party only just discovered this?
And how do they explain the shambles they were this last 10-15 years, they did bugger all to improve what they inherited, implicitly accepting it as ok…
They don’t because as socialists themselves they were continuing the Blairite creed, especially with the loathsome creep Cameron.
“Labour cares only about who it can tax in order to pay more in benefits to others…”
It always has! It’s a Socialist cancer which preaches the greed creed: greed, envy, spite – and its modus operandi is to rob selective Peter to pay collective Paul to get votes and stay in power.
Its aim is to destroy a successful capitalist economy by punishing the most productive and rewarding the least productive, transferring wealth from the wealth creators to wealth consumers to disincentivise the former and grow the ranks of the latter until the economy collapses – just about where we are now.
This then “proves” capitalism is a failure and the “answer” is Socialism with its equality, social justice, jam for tea, milk and honey throughout the land.
I hope McFadden has dug Labour’s grave.
Amazing! He’s only just caught up with what most of us have known since this wretched party came into power!
and he’s supposed to have intelligent?
From the full article:
Why the Hell does he want to change people’s lives? What gives him the moral authority to decide that other people’s lives should be different to how they are?
Elsewhere he’s quoted as saying:
He’s starting from the wrong assumption. It’s not government’s job to change people – nor to replace them.
Change your own life. Strive. Take risks. Succeed.

My government gives me nice things.
vs My government tries to prevent me succeeding.
Pat McFadden: All Labour Does is Ask “Who Can We Tax?”
Yes, that about sums up Labour’s economic policy.
And what makes it worse is that the result of these extra taxes: nothing, nada, zilch. More people in poverty, more food banks, crumbling infrastructure, more bureaucracy, more unemployment, more welfare dependency.
Just like the Soviet Union.
“In order to create a new world, we must first destroy the old one”. That is precisely what they are doing.
Ah that has made my evening!
