A report in the Telegraph suggests that the Government could urge pubs, bars and restaurants to check vaccine passports. One pub in Norwich didn’t need any persuading and has become the first in the country to announce that it will discriminate against unvaccinated Brits.
Philip Cutter, the Landlord of The Gardeners Arms, decided to introduce vaccine checks after two of his 25 bar staff tested positive for Covid, forcing him to shut for 10 days, according to reports. He also appears to have been egged on by Public Health England, which warned against relying on people being honest when submitting Covid test results to show at the door. The MailOnline has more.
Customers will be asked to show their vaccination card or NHS phone app showing proof of vaccination before they are allowed in his pub and his neighbouring café and bar called The Murderers.
Mr Cutter said: “I have not heard of any other pubs doing this. It just seems a common sense thing to do to protect my staff and customers and my business going forward.
“I know nightclubs have been asked to consider looking into some sort of vaccination passport. We are a busy city centre venue so we are not very different.
“If we were in a position where this Delta variant was not running riot, then we would be looking at things slightly differently.
“But there is a lot of virus out there and I want to do my best to protect everyone in my building.”
Mr Cutter said that people would only be admitted with proof of having been vaccinated at least two weeks earlier to give them a chance to have developed antibodies.
He added: “I have had a lot of support from older customers who are really pleased and say they will feel more comfortable about coming in.
“However, there are one or two people who are virulently against the idea, and see it is as yet another measure to curtail their freedom.
“But with around 80% of British adults having been vaccinated, I think that the majority of people are going to be happy with it. …
“I don’t want to turn anyone away, but I have got to make a call to protect my customers, staff and business.
“All it takes is one person to come in with some semblance of the virus to pass it on.” …
He added: “We’re not trying to discriminate or embarrass anyone, we’re just trying to make sure our staff and customers are safe. …
“We spoke to Public Health England about doing lateral flow tests instead, but they said the issue is you have to trust the person who submits the details.”

Perhaps this pub owner should read the news from the Zoe study showing all the people testing positive for COVID who have been double jabbed. I guess he has been bamboozled like so many into believing you cannot get COVID if you have been jabbed. Time to come out of your dreamlike state. Time to wake up. Please, before it is too late.
The landlord Cutter is saying come into my pub and get a dose of toxic spike proteins from a crowd of jabbed fools.
I genuinely hope someone burns the pub down.
Hopefully free-thinking, right-minded people will boycott this symbol of Orwellian dystopia.
Nah, a quick phone call that you’ve caught the virus from your visit the previous night is much cheaper than a gallon of shell’s finest. If everyone does it on successive nights, or should that be every ten days? it will have the same effect and be entirely legal.
Mr Cutter just doesn’t see the bigger picture. If he continues restrictions, on little evidence, then he helps keep the whole casedemic alive and it will simply bite him in the bum later on when legal restrictions are reintroduced. He has helped keep the norm going and will eventually damage his business even more. Silly virtue signalling.
One pub that I would now never visit, anytime, Covid or not Covid. Ever.
Spare us the Cutter. Pub landlord and putative SAGE member.
Wouldn’t it be fun if some wag(s) spray painted swastika’s in the pub walls, doors, windows etc….just saying.
Those refused entry to his pub might well join a class action and sue him for discrimination. An idea is to get a petition ready outside for them to sign with contact details and permission to write to them about said action

Won’t get my custom then. And I’m double jabbed.
Mr Cutter you thick c@nt, the super juice does not stop infection and does not stop you from passing it on. This is direct from the NHS and is in the covid injection booklet that comes with your letter. You are a coward of the highest order with not one shred of common sense or an ounce of critical thinking.
I hope you go bust, you absolute horror of a human being
So now it begins with Mr Cutter starting a two tiered society. I personally wouldn’t want to be in close proximity to the ‘vaccinated’ shedding their spike proteins and compromised immune systems. Someone will now have premises than ban ‘vaccinated’ people (just to be on the safe side)
Both Moderna and Pfizer categorically say ‘vaccines’/medical treatment do not stop you getting it or stop transmissions. It reduces the duration of the virus…duh!
OK but how do the unvaccinated prove a negative?
You might well catch it from his bar staff by the sound of it.
I don’t think his experiment will last very long. I choose pubs which offer a minimum of restrictions and will continue to do so. So will almost everyone else who goes to pubs and restaurants.
What an absolute wally!! Pathetic!!
Go woke go broke.
“Spare us (from) the Cutter”! But these weasels are everywhere. Take your money elsewhere.
Well, I commented on that knobs FB page. A rather detailed and explicit explanation of why his policies herald in an age of Nazi-esque discriminatory, abhorrent and morally disgracefully ignorant logic.
Scrolling down the comments page, many if not most were of similar ilk.
The ones supporting him seemed like elbow-patched, tea-sipping academics with degrees in jobless, social pseudo sciences.
Funnily enough, when I checked back 20 minutes later, I was denied access – access granted to friends only, apparently.
Job done, you fucking paper-weight, tosspot of a landlord.
Learn to read, analyse and act in proportion – else your business will sink faster than your ill-thought out moralistic actions!
I seem to remember reading a story about Norwich – one of the lowest church going populations in the country or some such – something to do with their student population I think. Not that that’s anything to do with it or anything… is it?
Oh well, “all shall be well, and all manner of thing shall be well” (Julian of Norwich)
Shan’t be drinking there then!
Here’s what I say to the Gardeners Arms, Norwich:
“Dear Landlord,
I am sorry to hear that you have been a pioneer in paving the way for a gestapo-like checkpoint society to become the norm in the UK. What a friendly and welcoming establishment you must be!
Given that two-thirds of the adult population have been double vaccinated (and this of course means that now the vast majority of the vulnerable population have been), and further that the trend is looking like the vast majority of the GENERAL population will pretty soon have been double-jabbed, what on Earth do you think merits such a restriction on your clientele?
The primary purpose of a vaccination (any vaccination) is to give individuals some protection from the serious expression of the disease, and and the development of severe symptoms. This one is no exception. The purpose (and effect) of this vaccine is NOT to prevent infection or transmission!
This is not a mandate as a condition of your business’s continued existence. It is your own policy and your own decision.
If I was a loyal customer of yours living next door to your pub and this requirement was put in place in order… Read more »
Is this the hospitality industry we are talking about?
inhospitality industry
He sounds as if he’s NFN.
Crap pub, with an even crappier landlord. It used to have (precovid) outside seating on Timber Hill, where the pissed customers who had “pre-loaded” by noon could barrack passers-by. Not a quality joint, and not one worth going to anyway. That said, Norwich is now the eastern capital of wokery, Greenery and bookended by a chippy Labour MP elected on a student vote, and a loyal Tory. I expect most of the pubs (the place no longer has “a church for every Sunday and a pub for every day of the year) will fall in step with the Murderers.
May I suggest a rename for his establishment?. ‘The Little Prick’
Well, won’t be going there, then.
“We’re not trying to discriminate or embarrass anyone”
That’s precisely what he is doing.
In some ways is this not actually a good thing in the short term? If lots of pubs do this and then find that some of their punters have tested positive or even worse/better (depends on your point of view) have ended up ill in hospital with Covid then surely the whole covid passport nonsense will collapse overnight and it might wake a few more people up to the fact that ‘vaccines’ don’t work as well as advertised and don’t stop transmission.
Good point dpj and, amidst my outrage at this utter fool of a landlord, I was half wondering the same thing. For instance the recent case of the Royal Navy ship (reported in the Telegraph in the last couple of days) on which several crew members tested positive despite every soul on board apparently having been vaccinated makes it difficult to logically claim that the vaccine is as effective as is claimed. However, the extent of the propaganda is such that I am not convinced that people are going to draw even such obvious conclusions at this moment in time.
Exactly.
I normally don’t wish anyone ill, but in this case, it would be ‘helpful’ for everyone if he got cases and pings soon, despite, or as we know probably because’ of his discriminatory policy, which is not based on any medical evidence- see the concert in Holland, where a 1000 people tested positive despite having been vaxxed or shown a negative test result.
But the treatment of that concert outcome also foreshadows that instead of learning from this and accepting their idiocy and crime, they will just continue to ignore it and/or clamp down harder.
Possibly so. And to sound a slightly contrarian tone to my previous comments here, let’s not just yet get our knickers too tightly in a twist. This is just one pub of out of approximately fifty thousand in the UK, and it’s quite likely that the majority of landlords / ladies would express extreme reluctance to adopt a scheme like this.
I am touching wood emphatically as I type this!
And when staff still get infected despite vaccinated customers? Yes, it reduces infections and transmissions, but it will not stop them. But for all the paranoid he will be the go to spot. For normal people, I’d imagine they’ll avoid it like the, well, plague.
No it doesn’t. If it did there would be headline claims to that effect. It apparently reduces symptoms if you are infected. Actually every trend seems to show it increases likelihood of infection.
Now if you’re saying a mild infection makes it very unlikely you’ll pass anything on, then welcome to the real world.
So, ONE pub in Norfolk….nope can’t be bothered to comment.
What a vile crawling sordid little Nai worm.
