Editor-in-Chief of The BMJ Says Lab Leak Is “Plausible and Worthy of Serious Inquiry”

by Noah Carl
12 July 2021 8:54 AM

The two most famous British medical journals are The Lancet (founded in 1823) and The BMJ (founded in 1840). The Lancet – which is arguably the more famous of the two – has come under criticism in recent months for publishing a letter that dismissed the lab leak as a “conspiracy theory”.

Now the Editor-in-Chief of The BMJ has written a surprisingly bold editorial, which is titled ‘Covid 19: We need a full open independent investigation into its origins’. Referencing a longer BMJ article by the science journalist Paul Thacker, she notes that “suppression of the lab leak theory was not based on any clear evaluation of the science.”

She goes on to say, “We don’t know which theory is right, but a lab leak is plausible and worthy of serious inquiry.” And she concludes by calling for a “a full, open, and independent investigation.”

Thacker’s article, which is much longer, examines the role that scientific journals and journalists played in shaping the now-punctured narrative that COVID-19 couldn’t possibly have leaked from a lab in Wuhan.

The story begins with the aforementioned Lancet letter, published in February of last year. That letter, it subsequently transpired, had been organised by Peter Daszak – president of EcoHealth Alliance – who has funded controversial gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

Daszak’s letter helped to stifle debate on COVID origins for more than a year. As the molecular biologist Richard Ebright told Thacker, ‘conspiracy theory’ is a “useful term for defaming an idea you disagree with”. Ebright, incidentally, blames not only The Lancet, but also Nature and Science – the world’s two preeminent scientific journals – for suppressing the lab leak theory.

As an aside, Nature’s role in suppressing the lab leak has been covered extensively by the journalist Ian Birrell. As he notes, “Allegations swirl that it was not down to editorial misjudgement, but something more sinister: a desire to appease China for commercial reasons.”

Returning to Thacker’s article, he suggests two main reasons for the “U turn”, whereby the lab leak went from “conspiracy theory” to plausible hypothesis. The first is that Trump lost the election. Because Trump had endorsed the lab leak theory, Thacker argues, “Daszak and others used him as a convenient foil to attack their critics”. (So much for guilt-by-association being a logical fallacy.)

The second factor is that the WHO investigation into COVID origins, which had gone looking for evidence of zoonotic spillover, came back pretty much empty handed. “More worryingly,” Thacker notes, “members were allowed only a few hours of supervised access to the Wuhan Institute of Virology.”

In the final part of the article, Thacker documents the various media outlets and “fact-checking” organisations that have scrambled to retroactively cover their anatomy. For example, Vox added a correction noting, “Since this piece was originally published in March 2020, scientific consensus has shifted.”

Thacker’s article offers a case study in what happens when scientific journals and journalists neglect their duty of independence, and instead become purveyors of an official narrative. It is worth reading in full.

I have wondered why China would agree to be the US/WHO’s patsy. Were they hoodwinked or were they promised something like global ID? Also, I don’t understand, if following the official narrative, the virus transmission pattern. Wuhan airport is mainly for domestic travel, international travellers would have to transit in other cities, so these transit cities should have had outbreaks.

Mainly for domestic travel maybe, but it did have a direct flight to Milan (because many of Italy’s fashion houses are now owned by Wuhanese), and it was from Milan that most of the world was ultimately infected.

They’re funding it. Basically, to give you an idea of just how far China have infiltrated corporations and the global elite, let’s just say it would be easier to list the people who don’t have any ties to China

Americans (or rather, the American deep state) may have created this virus, but I find it hard to believe they did so without Chinese help

Yes Emmerich. The link given above to Ian Birrell’s piece in UnHerd is gripping. China has of course long had an extension of soft power policy which includes power over WHO. “China is spending to win supremacy in science… “ yes, visibly, in Imperial College, for example. But I didn’t know that China’s spend includes “sponsoring” in millions “debt-laden” Springer Nature “the German group that publishes Nature” and that they appear to censor academics the CCP doesn’t like.
Or that it gives vast sums to Elsevier which owns the Lancet.

So we now have vast sums of money distorting, corrupting science: Chinese money with horrible ambitions of control, Gates’ money fuelling the ambitions of his ego for glory, and ruthless pharma money, capitalism as seen in China as well as in the West with no restraining moral guidance.

I wonder whether Drosten is linked to Springer Nature? The web is worldwide, All three, China, pharma, Gates are working together. Gates may be too arrogant to realise that China is not being used by him. Or he may be happy with a CPC run world.

Worth reading the Birrell piece.

Anyone who has not watched Dr Martin give evidence to the Fuelmich corona committee is indeed ‘behind the curve’. Dr Martin’s verbal evidence is backed up with his hard evidence. It all comes together for me after watching – everything now makes sense. Unless someone can debunk Dr Martin’s evidence (unlikely IMO) then he has by far the most plausible explanation for the whole shit-show.

I would argue that this is the fall-back ‘conspiracy’ that will eventually be ‘uncovered’. The media will eventually be all over the ‘lab leak’ theory because it serves a purpose. Mainly to hide the true crime, that it overwhelmingly looks deliberate.

And aside from Dr Martin we know other things have happened as a result:

> Under the guise of Covid, the American election was allowed to be rife with potential rampant fraud with mass mail-in ballots.

> The central banking system was allowed to print huge sums of money (QE) to pump the heavily endebted system with much needed cash. Massively diluting the value of the pound/dollar in your pocket.

> Small businesses have been under huge pressure, with many forced to close. Which plays right into the hands of big business.

> Obviously big pharma were tasked with a ‘cure’ and has the potential to make massive profits.

> Governments usually under constitutional constraints were able to take more power under the guise of a health emergency.

> For months, the media held a captive audience as they sensationalised everything.

> The Green agenda was given a big push in the direction they want it taken.

> And the divide and conquer technique was enhanced further than the usual party/racial lines that the media usually push. Now with Nazi’s and Sceptics at each others throats.

I bet there are some I have missed too, but this supposed crisis suits so many interests. There is no way this is an accidental leak.

Woodward is a sellout hack coasting on his Watergate fame and him and Bernstein weren’t putting anything on the line by exposing the Watergate scandal, the press hated Nixon almost as much, if not more, than they hated Donald Trump

What we need is another Assange or a Snowden, or even a Daniel Ellsberg. But given what happened to two of those three, don’t be surprised if another one doesn’t come along

One of the other paragraphs in the article is fairly bold too:

The mood among our political leaders is that we should all now take personal responsibility, neatly releasing them from doing their bit to limit transmission (https://blogs.bmj.com/bmj/2021/06/29/after-restriction-why-the-public-can-only-fulfill-its-responsibilities-if-the-government-fulfills-theirs).10 The chaos and waste that has been NHS Test and Trace show no sign of abating, with the government refusing to properly support people who need to self-isolate and slow to expand the case definition to ensure that those who are most infectious get tested (doi:10.1136/bmj.n1625).11 While dropping almost all legal requirements, the government has, however, decided to impose one new legal stricture, that care workers must be vaccinated: an “unnecessary, disproportionate, and misguided” decision (doi:10.1136/bmj.n1684),12 when professionalisation and registration of care workers would do so much more good.

Why did this pop up right next to a lab that was doing gain of function research and why do the detailed records of what that lab was doing prior to the virus appearing seem to be unavailable, missing or deficient?

The lab could easily exonerate itself if this was the mother of all coincidences. That it can’t shows that it wasn’t following protocols properly – at the very least.

What’s amazing is how so many investigations desperately try to avoid this question. The Wuhan lab should be able to easily prove it is in the clear. Why can’t it?

Don’t you think, now we know the history of this thing that nothing got released from Wuhan? The Chinese were certainly ‘in on it’ as much as fabricating people falling over dying in Wuhan on tape is concerned.
Eating and drinking amongst thousands of people from Wuhan during Chinese New Year when these pictures were released made me very very cynical about this from the start.
The ‘pathogen’ is a computer generated sequence which was used in the RT-PCR test by Drosten. The so called pathogen and its means of recognition were produced by the same people at the same time.
Its an almighty enormous CON.

I’m no expert on communist regimes, but I read an article a while back that said that western states waste energy in trying to work out what Communist leaders statements are propaganda and what are true. It’s not really the right question to be asking. We actually need to be asking – what is the motive behind a particular lie, and then the truth is apparent.

Anyone recall the article? It may have been WSJ…must’ve found it on here as I can’t bring myself to browse any other news!

Oh yes, the virus was released alright – deliberately. Then followed-up by computer generated and pre-modelled variants. Hence, you can keep this ‘plandemic’ going for as long as you want. Those behind this horrific event are guilty of capital crimes in my opinion.

The narrative has failed, so a new one has to be created.
It doesn’t really make a lot of difference, unfortunately. The major crime is the response to the “pandemic”, the lockdowns, the vaccines, the draconian legislation, the deaths in care homes, the deification of the NHS, the neglect of the people suffering from illnesses which aren’t COVID.

Only one disagreement with that, which is a ‘big’ one. The vaccines were not a reaction, they were the whole focus, the reason the rest has happened. Its now very clear from the patent record that the ‘novel’ virus was no such thing it was manufactured, a computer generated sequence , spike and all, many years ago.

“when scientific journals and journalists neglect their duty of independence”

The thing is that this is true of current journalism on a wider basis. It has been bought to a large extent, and the rot has been spreading insidiously over recent decades. ”Twas ever thus’ doesn’t cover it.

The ‘lab leak’ hypothesis has always seemed a possibility to me (and any other thinking person), given the geography and the need to throw sand in the eyes over gain of function research, and the dodgy history of ‘pandemic’ planning – and the fate of proportionate response.

“The first is that Trump lost the election.”

I think there are some quote marks missing there around the word “lost”.

And also, there is a strong argument for saying that the virus and its response were timed to ensure that Trump really did “lose” the election, given he was a major obstacle to the globalists behind all of this.

Exactly. Look at the WHO document, A World at Risk, published in September 2019. As well as their demand that each country prepare, by September 2020 for a global release, either deliberate or accidental, if a highly contageous and deadly pathogen, it demanded that the member states fund an annual $100 million emergency fund. That is more than the WHO annual funding, of which the USA provided a significant portion.

Donald Trump was pulling the US out of the WHO, because of the level of corruption in it’s organisation. If he had been allowed to win the election, the WHO would have been finished, something Gates and the WEF couldn’t allow to happen since they peddle their influence through the WHO.

Despite the WHO declaring the pandemic over in May 2020, prolonging it through the Autumn and Winter conveniently allowed the democrats to put in place their vote rigging mission.

The David Martin interview seems conclusive, unless he turns out to be wrong or misleading with his patent details (please God, no) but I repeat my question of last night: if it turns out NOT to be a new pathogen, and US scientists both designed and released it once they had secured rights to the “cure”, what was all that performance in Wuhan from Nov 19- Jan 20?
Why prat about presenting people collapsing in the street and walling up the citizenry? Why disinfect the streets!
What was in the body bags- sand?
Did Daszak organise that as well?

Maybe it be another year before this development is investigated.

Do we know if Dr Martin took his evidence to the US authorities before talking to Reiner Fuellmich and if not, why not? Does he believe his government and the law are corrupt and he doesn’t trust them? Probably he believes the corruption goes right to the top, and who could blame him?

I don’t where the CCP fit into this master plan but it’s clear that they had a lot to gain from all the lies that they tried to sell to the rest of the world.

Fast forward a year or so and we basically live in a Communist state now and our Western government is not far away from imposing digital passports that look like the Chinese social credit system. We have far fewer freedoms, millions are employed by the state under furlough, we can’t travel or speak freely, the media has been captured, meeting in large groups and protesting was illegal, economy is destroyed….

Their sneaky lies have essentially ensured that we all may as well be living in China.

This “pandemic” shows signs of having been planned for twenty years perhaps longer.

If you have the power and the means why not use them? After all viruses are invisible and offer secrecy – so much more tempting.
Remember the media are completely onside. All our institutions have been subverted. This cannot be achieved overnight.

Bioweapons research has been going on for many years, just the tools are getting more sophisticated – no more poison gas.
Release something and blame the Chinese. Those chinese videos did not come from the Chinese government – they came from alternative sources supposedly inside China. How do we know any of this is true?
The BMJ will play its role in spreading disinformation too.

David Martin offers one motive for Big Pharma to do this, but it is clearly an attempt to do much more that just get money for Pharma, this involves “passporting” and tracking every individual on the planet. The military are involved as is the US deep state. And our laws have been /are being changed to allow these encroachments on our freedoms. That is not Big Pharma, that is our own governments.
This is planned and it will not be simple to oppose.

I asked the Lancet to withdraw the original letter by Daszak et al on the grounds of a conflict of interest. It has not done so, though it has altered the end statements to sort of include a reference to a possible conflict. Of course I have not had a reply, whereas my response from the BMJ editor each time have written is unfailingly courteous and appropriate. Make of that what you will.

It is also a possibility that the virus came from the US lab at Fort Detrick (which had to be closed due to security concerns) and transported to Wuhan during the World Military Games held there just weeks before the outbreak where 300 US personnel competed.
Maybe the idea from the US Deep State and it’s Dr. Strangeloves was to harm the Chinese economy. They believed it was not that virulent and there would be no blowback as was the case with SARS -Cov-1, how wrong they were.
Was it also just a coincidence that thousands of miles away top leaders in Iran were some of the first to die from Covid?
Just imagine what the accusations would have been if Covid had originated in a US city just after 300 Chinese military personnel had been there.
The Chinese government has already accused the US of bringing the virus to China.
https://thediplomat.com/2020/03/chinese-foreign-ministry-spokesperson-implies-us-military-brought-coronavirus-to-wuhan/

There is a detailed analysis of the US releasing the virus in Wuhan here …..
https://www.unz.com/mwhitney/the-covid-bioweapon-made-in-the-usa-aimed-at-china/

The patents for SARS-CoV-2 have been known about for some time and were revealed in the film Plandemic InDoctorNation.

The worry is that the vaccines may also be a bioweapon.

Since Dr David Martin’s exposée of the patent history of the ‘novel’ spike protein revealed that it was patented in 1998 in coronavirus vaccines for rabbits and dogs, it is obvious that the virus was engineered by the patent holders who are US based.
So the story has moved on.
Dr Martin also showed that the original SARS had failed patent applications before the disease erupted China.
With what he also revealed on Peter Daszak advocating for what we now understand as ‘project fear’ is highly relevant.
Why should we be blaming the Chinese for leaks of at least 2 deadly coronaviruses that were manufactured and patented by US citizens and institutions, when the more likely explanation is that the releases were engineered by those patent holders in a country far away from US shores.
