Pressure is mounting on the Government to ease restrictions on overseas travel, with the travel firm TUI joining the list of airlines raising legal concerns about “inexplicable” and “shambolic” decision-making. Sky News has the story.
The travel giant said it was “inexplicable” that ministers decided to put Portugal on its “Amber List” last month – and not move the Greek and Balearic Islands, which have low Covid rates, on to the “Green List”.
Speaking at the Travel Matters conference on Tuesday, travel association ABTA also said it was considering joining TUI, Virgin Atlantic, Ryanair, British Airways’s parent group IAG, and the Manchester Airport Group in taking legal action against the Government.
Last week Ryanair Chief Executive Michael O’ Leary described the Government’s international travel policy as a “shambles” and announced legal action along with a number of partners.
Andrew Flintham, TUI Managing Director, accused the Government of not listening to the industry’s needs after Aviation Minister Robert Courts failed to turn up to the conference due to a “diary clash”.
“It is incredibly disappointing that the aviation minister didn’t come to speak with us all today,” he said.
“There is no doubt the Government needs to hear what we have to say as an industry and this once again feels like a sign they’re not.”

It’s not a shambles, you fools.
It’s exactly what they want: they want to see you go broke and the plebs stay at home.
Not the brightest cookies, those airline CEOs.
I’m not saying we’re living in a precisely Free Market, but the Free Market economy is going to be the way out of this horror – other industries fighting back to protect their own bottom lines.
They need to hurry up, chop chop
Yes, it’s taken them bloody long enough to get started.
Chop chop it is.
Agreed; I could never imagine the brats on The Apprentice settling for a social credit scheme, and every industry that fights this gives me hope.
If the travel CEO’s have only just realised this is a fundamental attack on their whole existence then they have seriously let down their shareholders and customers. Fight back. Just start flying again, maybe covering any fines of your customers in court afterwards (it is only guidance at the end of the day). Remember the Icelandic volcano, it took 3 days of health and safety idiots at the CAA and FAA saying it was ‘impossible’ to fly because of the ash cloud. Covid is exactly the same. The ‘Ash Cloud’ allowable setting was set at Zero (there is never zero ash in the atmosphere). In the end BA and Ryanair just took to the skies and flew through the ‘cloud’ and didn’t fall out of the skies. Left to the civil servants those planes would still be grounded due to the statistically correct ash cloud circling above us!
‘maybe covering any fines of your customers in court afterwards
I’m going to start screaming in a minute
NOT ONE PERSON HAS BEEN TAKEN TO COURT AND FINED. IT’S COMPLETE BULLSHIT. THEY DO NOT WANT CASES GOING TO COURT BECAUSE WHAT THEY ARE DOING IS UNLAWFUL AND THEY KNOW IT IS UNLAWFUL
DISOBEY THEM AND RIP UP THEIR FIXED PENALTY NOTICES IN FRONT OF THEM
It’s just another excuse to get people vaxxed!
The travel giant said it was “inexplicable” that ministers decided to put Portugal on its amber list last month – and not move the Greek and Balearic Islands, which have low COVID rates, on to the green list.
There is no quarantine for green list countries, plus neither Greece or the Balearics demand vaccination, just a test.
Speaking to Sky News earlier, Health Secretary Matt Hancock said the government is “working on” allowing fully-vaccinated passengers to travel to amber list countries without having to quarantine on their return.
But if they put them on the green list anyone could go!
Vaxxing and the climate change agenda behind the vaxxing. They want all flying except for a bit of freight and executive jets stopped.
Yes, ultimately they want the plebs to stop flying altogether, that is what is so sad about the vaxtards thinking double jabzz will give them ‘special privileges’.
Although I am against any type of health passport the EU’s Green Wallet allows travel with a vaxx, natural immunity through infection, or a negative test. It seem it’s just Gulag UK where you can’t even leave and wancock tying in returning to the UK with vaccines!
The industry need to pull their fingers out and look after themselves, I’ve said it many times, I’ll do my bit and support them but they’ve got to give me something to support!
Tomorrow there is a meeting of aviation professionals outside Parliament. In my opinion it is too late to be doing this. The traffic light system is unfit for purpose. Double jabbed people should be free too travel without testing. In fact everyone should be free to travel without testing.
We never have been told about the false positive rates for both LFT and PCR tests. In America LFT are not being used and Portugal says PCR should not be used. This is just a false positive pandemic. No children l know are bothering to test twice weekly at school because they know a positive result means quarantine.
Anyone need a holiday ? Lovely en suite room , own entrance , great views organic eggs on tap . Vendée ,France. Foc to the first sceptic who wants it. Seriously it’s true.
I’ll take it. Let me check with the wife and kids! Vendee near La Rochelle? Oh and what’s the catch?!
You can stay in our Belle Époque apartment in Nice, which we will never see again.
No catch. Thought someone might want to stick two fingers up to hand job etc.
We have to assume that the major airlines are ‘in’ because they had representatives at Event 201, helping to war game the fake pandemic that was unleashed a few months later. Like the major retailers they have been given a seat at the table of world domination on the understanding that their smaller competitors would go out of business and they will have sole access to a much reduced market of travellers who are able to afford to travel and willing to submit themselves to biological manipulation. You’d have thought the small airline CEOs would already known this. The video has been on YouTube since October 2019! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AoLw-Q8X174
Fight back! Just put the planes in the air! There are thousands of us who want to fly, but cannot because there aren’t any flights to where we want to go. It took me 8 cancelled flights to get out here to a Greek island last week, and absolutely no airline flew from the north of England. It’s easy enough to get insurance for around an extra £5 to cover you for travelling against FCDO advice too.
C’mon EasyJet. Time to get on board, too. The more the merrier… Larger businesses, then SMEs and .gov will be fucked.
Telegraph report from agency copy today – more than half teachers in England are in favour of teaching secondary children to take direct action against climate change.
And yet whenever in the past I have suggested to children that a great way to help would be walk to school, cancel foreign holidays and have only one Christmas present they have seemed strangely reluctant.
Just about every business in the UK needs to sue the Government for damages, same goes for climate change policy.
i will fly but no way will i ever get that injection anyone else here like me i think so.
maybewe should let the airlines know that esepiclaly the smaller one s
