Reports from last week suggested that the Government was going to fudge the “Freedom Day” deadline by announcing restrictions were being lifted, but keeping nearly all of them in place. That has now been more or less confirmed. The i has the story.
Social distancing in hospitality venues, working from home and masks on public transport could all remain in place after June 21st under plans being considered to revise the roadmap out of lockdown, i understands.
According to senior Government advisers, the current thinking in Downing Street is that many restrictions will need to remain in place after so-called “Freedom Day” to avoid another full lockdown in the autumn.
It means the full lifting of lockdown restrictions are likely to be delayed for “a few weeks” due to concerns over new variants of Covid and increased pressure on the NHS.
Medical experts are pushing for a delay to the easing of restrictions, arguing that a few more weeks to vaccinate more people will offer greater certainty against another lockdown.
i understands the Government is likely to backtrack on encouraging a return to the workplace, continue with the guidance to work from home if possible, and is also likely to continue with the policy of mask-wearing and social distancing on public transport.
A Government source told i: “The current thinking is it would be irresponsible to risk another full lockdown in the autumn by opening up too fast on June 21st.
“While many businesses would have been hoping to operate at full capacity in a few weeks’ time it is better than they can operate at reduced capacity rather than being shut down completely again if we hit another peak.”
While pubs may no longer be required to provide table service, drinkers could be able to order at the bar from June 21st. However, social distancing in bars and restaurants is likely to remain, along with limits on audiences in theatres and cinemas.

My thoughts are more with things such as pubs, the tourist industry, airlines etc that really cannot survive under current restrictions. I’m still travelling regardless of the current idiocy with tests and quarantine, but many people cannot.
It’s very important that you STOP even pretending to adhere to these nonsensical rules.

Masks have been tested & do NOT reduce respiratory virus transmission.
Asymptomatic transmission is so rare as to be disregarded. So lockdowns never worked nor ever could have.

Can I just say what is going on with the constant links to the Telegraph? unless you sign up and pay to read you cannot read the articles. The Telegraph is now frankly just the Boris Johnson cabinets personal news letter and I will not line the coffers of a rag which has in articles encouraged the bullying and segregation of children . Judith woods a few months ago called for any child who did not conform at school and wear masks ought to be victimised by making them sit on seperate tables etc, I think her words were something like children must learn to conform. Then last week there was an odious article supporting othering of the non vaccinated when a female writer I can’t recall her name was proud to announce that anyone not injected with the anti covid drug would no longer be welcome at any of her social gatherings.( I should think a person so mean spirited and ignorant as that would have few friends anyway )So please can we stop supporting this propaganda paper

Just to confirm, there will be no Autumn lockdown as we have had a formal promise from the Prime Minister that the removal of restrictions is to be irreversible. Irreversible does nOt mean the same as temporary. Any attempt to backtrack needs to be met with public rioting and violence against those attempting to enforce these illegal restrictions.

I live in a sizeable town, and today I went for a 12 mile bike ride. What struck me is the number of people not wearing masks and just acting, human. It was good to see. Maybe the hypnosis and fear is starting to wear off…
You could be right. I live in a sizeable town in Greater London and can’t help notice that the number of mask wearers is going down as is the number in shops and supermarkets. From speaking to people they are just pissed off with the whole thing.
I don’t wear a mask (I claim exemption) and I don’t socially distance (unenforceable and most people don’t care anyway from my experience).
If there is another lockdown, then I will still travel domestically (I have no interest in international travel regardless of covid). I’ll just make sure all my travel is for ‘work’ – I am a photographer. So I will travel to places that I can photograph – which is everywhere! Haha!

By the time I was finally cleared up, my sensory / spinal / central pain processing had changed. The prognosis is typically for this to continue life long.

There was never going to be a 21st June. The plan is for all social and economic life to take place within the lockdown model.
