The Government Cover-Up of Winter Deaths From Cold Weather

Tens of thousands more die of cold than heat in the UK each year, but the ONS stopped publishing the stats in 2022. Now the UKHSA does it, but hey presto, cold deaths suddenly equal heat deaths, says Paul Homewood.

It has long been known that many more people in the UK die in winter months than at other times of year. It has never been a secret.

Year after year the Office for National Statistics (ONS) published the data to prove it.

That is until 2022, when the annual publications abruptly ended, without any official explanation as far as I am aware. It took a Freedom of Information request to winkle out the real story – this is the ONS response in February 2026 to that FOI:

You asked

I would like to request the following recorded information held by the Office for National Statistics:

The total number of excess winter deaths (or excess winter mortality figure) in England and Wales for the winter period 2024-25 (defined as December 2024 to March 2025, or the standard ONS winter definition if different).

If available as part of the above or separately recorded, a breakdown of these excess winter deaths by age group, particularly for those aged 65 and over (or State Pension age/older persons/OAPs equivalent).

Any provisional, estimated or final figures for cold-related mortality (or deaths attributable to cold weather/low temperatures) in the UK (or England and Wales) during the winter of 2024-25, including any modelling, estimates or direct counts if held.

If the full annual excess winter mortality bulletin or dataset covering winter 2024-25 has not yet been published, please provide:

The current expected publication date or release schedule for these data.

It has been known for many years that the numbers of excess deaths in the UK are a good deal higher than other northern European countries, running at tens of thousands. Of course the government doesn’t want us to know.

It would be rather inconvenient if rocketing fuel prices led to more recorded cold deaths so it will be able to get ahead of the scandal if they just stop recording it. Simples…

Wouldn’t it be great if a new party, uncontaminated by Uniparty, were to direct that all the older data series were to be compiled and published.

Yet another small example of how the UK is begging to look like the old Soviet Union.

In all of the discussions about global warming the alarmists hated that people could point to the fact that more people die of cold than heat. Not just more, but much much more. —-The explanation for not continuing to provide these stats STINKS. But then so does every part of the phoney planet saving agenda.

A huge part of PROPAGANDA is simply OMISSION. You just miss out or don’t mention the stuff that interferes with your manufactured reality. —-The BBC are very good at this and have been doing it for years.

This manipulation serves two of the governments policies. 1) it obscures the fact that fuel poverty caused by their agenda may not be real. 2) Diverts attention from the possibility that the planet may be cooling as some people are warning. Both are linked through the climate agenda.

As Winston explained to Julia:

“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book has been rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street and building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And that process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.”

Obviously the data is insignificant because otherwise the Government narratives fail.

{sarcasm}

Interestingly in the bureaucratic world statistics and reports rarely die, people need their employment, but are merely unpublished. It must have taken a great deal of pressure to reverse this normal course of events.

These arrogant authoritarian public bodies need shaming at every opportunity. Keep up the good work.
It is basically just telling lies by default.
Unfortunately many people live in a bubble and haven’t a clue.

Why don’t they drill and frack
so that they have more gaslighting ammunition?

They drill and frack statistics instead.

Excellent. Keep going with this, it’s sickening that data is manipulated in this way to fit activist agendas. How daft do they think the public are?

It’s always easy to criticise governments for what they do at any particular time, unfortunately people pay no attention to what a government does not do.
Statistics are the bedrock by which we live, no matter how unreliable they are at times. So data manipulation can have unintended consequences.
Perhaps statisticians can analyse data to show what has been omitted in other areas in order to assess the overall reliability of government.

They did the same with ‘expected deaths’ data a couple of years ago. It had been calculated using a simple moving average from the prior 5 years. Then, when deaths from heart failure rose dramatically the basis of the calculation was changed & the excess heart failure deaths disappeared as if by magic.
