National Trust Plans to Teach Five-Year-Olds About Black Power Salute – During a Baking Workshop

The National Trust has provoked outrage with plans to teach children as young as five about the Black Power salute during a baking workshop. The Mail has the story:

The initiative forms part of a series of events to mark Black History month. It will involve children aged five to 12 being taught about the origins of the salute at the 1968 Olympics during a “fun and educational” baking session at Morden Hall Park, a National Trust property in South London.

Critics have branded the plans “pathetic” and said it was further proof that the charity had lost sight of its founding principles to protect the UK’s historic heritage.

Cornelia van der Poll, of campaign group Restore Trust, which has criticised the National Trust for pursuing an increasingly ‘woke’ political agenda, said any link between the US civil rights movement and Morden Hall Park was “highly contrived”.

She said: “Teaching children about a Black Power salute is not relevant to this particular property and it’s not relevant to what the National Trust does.” …

Describing the National Trust as “ultra-woke”, historian Andrew Roberts said it was “sad, pathetic but wholly predictable” that the charity “won’t even let five year-olds bake cakes on their premises without taking the opportunity to force Left-wing propaganda down their throats”.

The Trust’s website says children attending the baking session will “learn about the inspiring story of Olympic athletes Tommie Smith and John Carlos and their iconic Black Power salute”. They will then be assisted to make and bake their own ‘Olympic Gold Cookies’.

The 200 million sprinters raised their black-gloved fists on the podium at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics during the playing of the American national anthem to protest systemic racism and institutional segregation in the US. The salute has become an enduring icon of the civil rights movement.

The only link between slavery and Morden Hall Park is that the family who owned it had a business processing snuff, Ms Van der Poll said.

Racism on steroids. “They’ve got to be carefully taught” as the song goes and from which these NT idiots have learnt nothing.
