Comic Relief: The Complete Circus of Clown-Based Migrant NGOs

News that troops of continental female clowns – a very special sub-breed of clown, even unfunnier and more annoying than normal ones – are entertaining asylum seekers on the beaches of northern Calais caused widespread bemusement even amongst the migrants themselves, who, to judge by footage, cracked nary a smile at the jesters’ tedious antics. To be fair, finding clowns unfunny shows that these people do share at least some traditional Western values before they land here.

I was hoping that the continental clowns’ leader would be called Coco Chanel. Instead, she is 67 year-old femme fool Laurence Quetel, the founder of a ‘cliniclown company’ called Clown Inside, which has previously travelled to migrant camps in Greece, Jordan and Lebanon, trying to teach Muslim inmates that the best explosions involve only confetti. Clown Inside works in partnership with a Calais-based aid NGO, Salam Nord, which distributes free food to invaders, mainly in the form of custard pies. How does ‘cliniclown’ therapy work? If I could understand Ms Quetel’s explanation, I would tell you:

When I am here, I take a ball and I look at another pair of eyes, I suddenly know there is a communication where I can throw the ball, they take the ball and then I see the human being as an individual. This is a human thing and this is a beautiful thing to see.

At this point, Quetel did finally succeed in making me laugh. But what will the likely effect be upon the

I knew that someone was paying for these idiots. These women should be developing a relationship and looking forward to having kids, but no, they are doing this crap. No one wants an old clown so I hope they have a back-up plan.

No, it is definitely 24th of August. Checked all my calendars, looked at my phone, checked the newspaper, asked Grok to confirm it is not 1st of April.

You could argue that the clowns are doing a useful job preparing our soon-to-be fellow citizens for the general insanity that will await them on this side of the Channel. You know, the sort of general insanity that promotes a serial fabulist to a senior academic position at a supposedly elite university, and indeed the advancement of a serial Everton supporter with a fascination for busses into the post of Prime Minister.

I’m increasingly of the view we’re experiencing a rerun of what happened to Germany and Austria in the 1920’s and 30’s. The clownish insanity is just preparation. With the national debt over £3 trillion and hyperinflation in front of us, the ensuing mental dislocation will be just what’s needed to push society into final breakdown.

As Thomas Mann said of that period:

“The market woman who without batting an eyelash demanded a hundred million for an egg lost the capacity for surprise. And nothing that has happened since has been insane or cruel enough to surprise her.”

The difference this time is that it will be the native population who will be cleaning the pavements with toothbrushes, and sitting in trees for our new overlords’ entertainment. You know what happened next.

I’m surprised that they managed to find so many children and women to include in that picture. Aren’t most of the boat people men? Or do they just leave the women and children behind to stay in the camps until they get permission to bring them in?

Women and children make useful ballast and are first overboard when the going gets rough.

I used to know someone who volunteered with Clowns Without Borders (Clowns Without Brains) and went over to the camps around Calais several times in 2015-16, I’ve lost touch with her so don’t know if she still does so. The strange thing is that she came across as a very intelligent rational person until she mentioned her trips to Calais. Back then I was still fairly left wing and kind of admired what she did which might be why I thought she was generally pretty intelligent and rational and we got along really well. I’m going to admit that I fancied her and was disappointed that she was a lesbian, at least this means she wasn’t also providing sexual favours for illegal immigrants.

I used to do a lot of voluntary conservation work, this is how I met her, and during one work party I took part in, during a beach clean, I found a 4 person tent in perfect condition that someone had abandoned which I was going to give to her so she could take it over to Calais and give it to an illegal for them to use. During the work party I was staying on an… Read more »

The reference to sexual services being offered brings to mind a story in Edward Behr’s Anyone Here Been Raped and Speaks English? Not just the source of the title which is explained on the book’s Wikipedia page, but a different tale from the collapse of the Belgian Congo. Anyhow, it’s an excellent book altogether. Recommended.

Aren’t they being a bit ‘migrantist’ in restricting their efforts to only entertaining the people who are trying to break into other countries? Couldn’t they have a go at something more ambitious, like providing such services to the most oppressed victims, the miners – many of them also minors – in the DRC who are extracting the mineral wealth that is ultimately being used to make the gadgets that allow them to share their hobby with the rest of us?

“By sending clowns into a crisis, we disrupt the relentless challenges, instability and chaos to deliver vital emotional first aid for thousands of children during the most challenging times.”

Perhaps they could perform outside 10 Downing Street – or is there not enough virtue in it for them? Or perhaps there are already enough clowns in Government?

It would seem that coulrophobia (fear of clowns) is not the only phobia.
