On the eighth of February 2020, in a private note recounting a telephone call with the former CDC Director Tom Frieden, Anthony Fauci set the fatality rate of the new coronavirus at “more like 0.2 to 0.3% rather than 2.0%”. Thirty-two days later, under oath before Congress, he called that same virus 10 times deadlier than seasonal influenza, roughly 1%; four days after that, the states began ordering their citizens indoors. Those two numbers, and the 32 days that separate them, contain very nearly the whole catastrophe.
Niccolò Machiavelli, in The Prince, instructs the ruler who would keep power that it is far safer to be feared than to be loved, and that a prince must be a great feigner and dissembler, since men are so credulous and so governed by the need of the moment, that one who practises to deceive will always find another willing to be deceived. Fauci governed by precisely that instrument, which is fear, and he practised precisely that art, which is dissimulation; the peculiar cruelty of his case is that his own Princess, the vessel whose very name mocks the Machiavellian title, held the plain truth that his princely craft obliged him to bury. The document that condemns him is his own, preserved on a federal server in bytes that any subpoena would eventually exhume; the affair therefore carries, beneath the statecraft, the shape of a thriller in which the buried memorandum is certain to surface at the last.
I have followed this man since before the pandemic, through his Zika (mis)adventure, in which a microcephaly panic dissolved upon examination much as this one would, and onward through his own “gain-of-function”, his self-professed “DNA of caring” and the Zika human-challenge trials that an ethics panel, guided by his own wife’s expert opposition to such experiments, had refused to sanction and which he pursued regardless, dangling a $110 million inducement before a Brazil that spurned it before he staged the trials in Baltimore instead. A single pattern recurs across the whole of it: this particular deception, however, stands apart from the others because it was the hinge on which an entire world turned.
Begin where Fauci himself began, with the perfect experiment that he could not have designed and could not stop admiring. When the Diamond Princess sat quarantined off Yokohama in February 2020, he named it precisely: “People on a large ship, all together, at the same time, all the time,” he told the press, “you couldn’t ask for a better incubator for infection.” He was, by his own account, watching the ship closely, so that it stood among the clearest data points he possessed. Here were 3,711 people sealed inside a metal tube of recirculated air, their number skewing heavily old, a natural experiment that no ethics board on earth would have sanctioned; and it returned its verdict almost at once. Eighty-three percent of those aboard never tested positive at all; nearly half of the confirmed cases produced no symptoms whatever; and, the figure that ought to have dissolved the panic, a full month after the ship’s seeding by its index passenger around January 20th, the death toll stood at zero.

That silence matters, because of the manner in which respiratory viruses kill. Influenza’s acute-mortality window runs roughly a fortnight from the onset of symptoms, 32 at the very outside; a genuinely lethal pathogen loosed inside a floating retirement colony ought to have scythed its victims quickly, and this one did not. The first two deaths came on February 20th, both of them passengers in their eighties. By the time America closed in mid-March the toll had reached eight, and it would crest at 14 in April; every one of the dead was elderly, not a single one belonged to the 1,045 crew and none was young. Restrict the count to the genuinely acute window, and the most heavily exposed population on the planet had produced a mortality on the order of two-tenths of 1%, concentrated wholly in the very old.
Confronted with two sources, a man in Fauci’s chair had to choose which to believe, and by the eighth of February he had enjoyed ample time to distinguish the open experiment from the closed one. The Diamond Princess was transparent, its every passenger swabbed, its denominator known to the last soul; the Chinese figures were the opposite, a case count shorn of any denominator, curated by a regime with every reason to inflate it. Put the question plainly: which would you sooner trust, the Princess or the Chinese Communist Party? Nor was the ship the only clean population the American state possessed. Within weeks the very same lesson repeated aboard our own warships, most starkly the USS Theodore Roosevelt, where a crew of some 4,800, young and fit, saw more than a thousand infected and exactly one death, a chief petty officer in his forties; a military that ran its own closed-population experiments had no need of Beijing’s arithmetic. The virus, moreover, did not change in the interval, for nothing observable between the eighth of February and the 11th of March converted a modest, age-stratified illness into the apocalypse that Fauci and Deborah Birx would carry into the Oval Office. What changed was never the data; it was the presentation of the data.
Consider, then, what species of pandemic this actually was. Were some cruel arithmetic to force a single naïve pathogen upon a society, one it had never encountered and against which it held no vaccine, one would select this pathogen without hesitation. The great killer of 1918, Spanish influenza, fell hardest upon the young and the strong, its mortality curve a grim “W” that peaked among people in their 20s and 30s; it orphaned children and thinned the productive ranks. SARS-CoV-2 did the converse, taking the very old and sparing the young almost entirely; and a herd, whether of animals or of men, endures precisely by protecting its young. By that measure the coronavirus was the gentlest naïve visitor imaginable and the furthest thing from a civilisation-ending plague; no shepherd and no honest epidemiologist would hesitate to choose the virus that spares the lambs.

Fauci knew all of this in February; he had said so, and he had watched it unfold. In that same month he was, if anything, reassuring, pronouncing the risk to Americans “minuscule”. Somewhere inside the 32-day window, however, the story changed, and on March 11th, before Congress, he delivered the sentence that would close a continent: the coronavirus, he testified, was 10 times more lethal than the seasonal flu, a mortality near 1%. The chamber took him at his word, as chambers do.
The offence lies not merely in the width of the gap between the two figures; it lies in the man’s having asserted the smaller number in private and then the larger number in public, and in his practised habit of issuing fresh certainties only to discard them once their utility had lapsed. He proclaimed the six-foot rule as though it were a law of physics, then conceded, long after the schools had emptied, that it had “sort of just appeared” and rested upon no data at all; he pronounced masks useless, then made them a sacrament, then reclassified his own masking as a mere “signal”; he disowned the very gain-of-function funding that his own agency had authorised. The procedure never varied even as the pronouncements reversed: declare a proposition settled science, extract obedience from the declaration and repudiate it the instant its usefulness expired.
His testimony fell on March 11th 2020, the day the World Health Organisation declared a pandemic and the NBA went dark; on March 13th the Federal Government proclaimed a national emergency, and by the Ides of March itself, the 15th, and the days immediately following, California, New York, Illinois and the rest were commanding their populations to shelter in place. This was the most crucial lie; it jettisoned the finest economy in a generation, and probably Trump’s re-election along with it, and liberty across much of the earth. It brought turmoil, poverty, absurdity and the draconian spectacle of governments arrayed against their own citizens; natural law and natural right alike succumbed to a medicine-charged dystopia, and the man who led that apparatus of control knew better than the counsel he gave.
We know that he knew better because he preserved the evidence himself. The February note, later pried loose by Senator Rand Paul, recorded the honest 0.2 to 0.3% even as the public Fauci prepared to swear tenfold; the private ledger and the sworn testimony ran side by side, two irreconcilable accounts of one virus in the same hand and across the same few weeks.

Why a man should broadcast one figure while carefully conserving its contradiction in his own writing, upon a federal machine whose contents any subpoena would eventually pry open, is a question that resists ordinary explanation. A liar who merely wishes to be believed does not retain the receipt; Fauci retained it, as though some portion of him required the truth on the record while his voice supplied the falsehood to the world. Kary Mullis, who earned the Nobel Prize for inventing the very PCR technique that Fauci’s machinery would later ride to global authority, was blunt about the man: Fauci, he observed in a recorded interview, “doesn’t know anything really about anything” – one of the “administrative people” at the summit who mistake command of a budget for command of a science. Whatever one concludes about Mullis’s temper, the distinction he drew is the one that governs here, for at the decisive moment Fauci was not following the evidence; he was managing a narrative. Which compels the last and gravest question: toward what end?
The deeper history supplies the beginning of an answer. This was not the world’s first encounter with the family, since SARS-CoV-1 had erupted from China in 2003, after which Beijing kept the pathogen in its laboratories and laboured over it for the better part of two decades. What China feared from that first SARS was never chiefly the virus; it was the single thing a one-party dynasty always fears – the unrest of the crowd in the square, the memory of Tiananmen – and lockdown was Beijing’s instrument against that restlessness, a means of freezing a population and riding the danger out. For Fauci, I have long suspected, the true virus was never SARS-CoV-2 at all but Donald Trump, or the affront that Trump posed to the institutions Fauci personified; and on that solitary point the interest of a Chinese regime that despised the American President converged with that of a Washington establishment that despised him no less. A terrified nation, its economy halted and its president blamed, served the purposes of both.
Here the motive darkens further. In my original account, the Brownstone editor Jeffrey Tucker advanced a supposition I have never been able to dismiss: that Fauci and his circle worked a species of mental bait-and-switch upon the President. Trump, who had waved the virus away as a bad influenza, was suddenly told that it might be a Chinese bioweapon, and with that one word the matter migrated out of medicine – where he was sceptical and unsure of himself – into the register of war and national security, where he fancied himself formidable and yearned to be a hero. Flip the frame and one flips the man; within weeks his tone reversed and the lockdowns followed.
My own theory begins from the man’s predicament once the virus was loose. His fingerprints already lay upon the Wuhan gain-of-function laboratory whose leak the world would, in time, trace back toward him; and to have authored a global catastrophe is unendurable to an ego of his proportions, whereas to be also its rescuer is another matter altogether. Homer Simpson famously toasts alcohol as the cause of, and the solution to, all of life’s problems, and Fauci stood in precisely that posture toward the pandemic – at once its probable progenitor and its self-appointed saviour. The rescue bore a name, Operation Warp Speed, and a vehicle: the messenger-RNA vaccine, an untried modality that he had willed toward existence for years. A Gates Foundation wager on an mRNA Zika vaccine, rumoured at as high as a hundred million dollars, had ridden on the same modality as early as 2017 – a product that, like the panic later invoked to justify its successors, never actually reached the market. Cover the fingerprints and become the father of the cure; whether the injection ultimately worked or not, the declared emergency alone would sweep aside the obstacles of Phase II and Phase III testing and usher his cherished modality into a hundred million arms.
That end required the nation’s confinement, and confinement it duly received. Like the cone of silence in Get Smart, the emergency lowered a bell jar over the whole country, holding its citizens caged and, more consequentially, naïve – denied the ordinary recourse to competing therapies so that the population might serve as the perfect experimental substrate for the coming vaccine. The wave, not by accident, crested only after the election; a triumphant vaccine in October would have handed Trump his victory, and so it waited. Biden arrived at the head of a cohort far more congenial to Dr Fauci, who reigned thereafter as a species of king for several further years. We, in the meantime, suffered.
The messenger-RNA platform may yet earn its keep in the individualised medicine of the future, tailored like a fingerprint to a single patient’s cancer, multiple sclerosis or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis – a bespoke gene therapy modelled upon one person’s disease alone. That eventual promise, however, licensed nothing of the premature stampede of 2020, and it discloses the final term of Fauci’s calculus: the wager that history would absolve him, that a grateful posterity – its malignancies and its palsies one day undone by the modality he had midwifed – would look back and allow that the whole affair had not, in the end, been so very bad. It was so very bad, and it remains so.
If even a portion of this is what occurred – a public-health mandarin (pun intended) knowingly inflating a threat by a factor of five or more, borrowing a Mandarin-speaking adversary’s playbook and stampeding a sitting president into the arrest of his own country – then one is obliged to ask whether the honest word for the thing is merely deception, or something nearer treason; a Manchurian candidate. The clock has since run out, as the clocks in these stories always do, and the notes are public now, as is the ship’s manifest. Both documents testify, and both of them testify against him.

What was Fauci worth pre-Covid, and what after?
I suggest the motivation was a display of his power and arrogance and the insistence on wet markets was to protect himself and his colitis who had funded the research in the face of refusal by the US defence research organisation.
I guess for the same reasons your incompetent government medical advisors and politicians exaggerated the threat of Covid. To make lots of money off the safe and effective covid vaccines. You know the ones with serious adverse events like strokes, heart attacks, cancers, MS, ALS, Parkinson’s, transverse myelitis, tremors, autoimmune diseases.
The British Government downgraded Covid from a High Consequence Infectious Disease one week before the first lockdown was imposed.
That means the data was in; was assessed; double-checked; was passed up the governmental food-chain for approval …. and then went back down the pecking order for the Comms to be dealt with.
I reckon that process would have taken 2 – 3 weeks.
So, in early March the British Government KNEW that Covid wasn’t the plague and was only a significant risk for the very elderly/frail and people with severe co-morbidities.
Yet SAGE and the Quad decided to lock us down and destroy the economy. It quite obviously wasn’t because they were scared of a high level of deaths in the pre-retirement population. They KNEW that wasn’t going to be the case.
And the same policies were imposed across “the west” …. Europe, Canada, Aus, NZ. It obviously had nothing to do with a virus.

I made a screenshot of that pronouncement back in 2020 and revisited it very recently. I was surprised to see that it is still there in black and white; an absolute testament to the fact that we were lied to, duped and therefore completely abused by the government. I can’t understand why that announcement hasn’t been dug up and used to prove to the people of the UK that the whole thing was a dreadful scam; but that would involve the mainstream media acknowledging the deception so I’m not holding my breath…
The reason it was downgraded from a HCID, was that if it stayed at that classification ANY medication or treatment (off-label) in existence could be used to treat SARSCoV2.(think Ivermectin) downgrading it meant that only prescribed medication could be used. Pet projects such as mRNA jabs, for example. As you say in your post, they knew exactly what they were doing.
Also an HCID must be and can only be treated at an HCID hospital. Think Ebola or suchlike. When the world and his dog have the bug those rules are worthless.
In addition it became clear that hardly any of the infected needed hospital treatment at all. Just Lemsip and rest.
As an originally credulous follower of official rules I am humbled. I saw the light later than many readers, but even so, now that so much of what was initially said and one has been discredited, the continuing failure of politicians, lawyers and even doctors to admit that they were wrong is a scandal.
Thanks for that. I, fortunately, saw it from just about the beginning. Most people I know are educated (degrees at long-established universities etc) but, regardless of educational background, very few of them caught on at the same sort of time. Many clearly don’t want to question it to this day. We, who’ve ‘seen the light’ should be sympathetic and conscious that mass hysteria can sweep up anybody, including ourselves, and not be smug about being proved right this time.
Maybe I am smug. Still not had an apology from anyone who rubbished me at the time or any ex friends trying to re establish relations. Happy not to have much to do with them. Life is too short- we enjoy the limited company we keep, I focus on my close family and work.
MODERATOR HERE
There are many of us in the DS diaspora who saw it for a scam and a panic from Day One, and you’ve been a valued member of that large group for a long time
I cannot, of course, agree with your comments about losing friends. Being indifferent about it – even glorying in it – is harmful. It is far better to live in a high trust society than a mutually suspicious one. For my sins I’m currently reading Anne Applebaum’s GULAG, her history of Stalin’s work camps. I recommend it to those with strong stomachs. One thing that it makes clear is that the NKVD deliberately promoted division among the inmates to help enforce control.
As regards my being ‘a valued member’ of the ‘DS diaspora’ ‘for a long time’, I take it to be meant as a compliment. So perhaps I ought be flattered? Perhaps not.
Oddly, although I’d been reading the Sceptic for much longer my first appearance in its pages was an article published in January 2024: Boris Johnson: How one man failed history. Re-reading it now I hold with very nearly every word in it. But the first comment BTL was written by a commentator who appears to have misunderstood the article’s reasoning altogether, but rather seized on a single sentence with the judgement: ‘Cobblers’. Debate BTL – I haven’t read it all – appears to have taken its… Read more »
I’m neither glorifying in it nor indifferent about it. It is what it is. I’m getting on with my life and enjoying it immensely, and letting other people get on with theirs. I cannot however unsee or forget what happened during “Covid”. It’s now obvious that I see life quite differently to how a lot of people see it. Again, it is what it is.
As for Alexander “Boris” Johnson, I don’t remember the article but “cobblers” is usually appropriate when referring to him.
I would add that I don’t care what other people believe about “covid” – to quote Kristi Noem “If you’re worried about covid, wear a mask, stay at home, get vaccinated, we’re not going to mandate anything”. What I care about is governments telling me what to do, and their cheerleaders among my fellow citizens who wanted the state monopoly on power used to stop me seeing my family, friends, and living any kind of normal life. That’s the difference – I can disagree with someone’s position on something, but it ends there, just a disagreement. Left wing fanatics can’t leave it there – they want me arrested, censored, banned, sacked, cancelled if I don’t agree with them. My friends, acquaintances and colleagues variously compared me to Hitler (that’s a laugh – he was the public health fanatic, not me), called me a conspiracy theorist and told me I didn’t care about other people.
the groups were terrible. My squash and tennis club didn’t take anything I said seriously and they were in lockstep with lockdowns etc. our outdoor tennis courts were closed, incredibly enough. And when they re-opened we couldn’t touch the same set of tennis balls the other player had. If a ball went out of bounds the player who hit it had to retrieve it, or someone would knock it around without picking it up.
Yes tennis was stopped in the UK for a while. There was an outdoor roller skating scene in many areas, especially urban, that largely seemed to fly under the radar of the cops and snoopers – roller skaters seem to be more recalcitrant on average than the general population. That was a good outlet for me.
Mrs ToF was hounded out of her social tennis group by vaccine Nazis, who are still around and have never apologised. Antisocial tennis.
well said. The humility you exhibit is admirable. Far too often it’s easier to fool people than it is to convince them they have been fooled. I have MD PhD friend you can’t come to the simple realization and cognizance you have. I admire your post. wryobserver2
Even more amazing is how so many supposedly intelligent people fell for the scam completely. You know who you are, suckers
Very well written. Couldn’t be clearer. If Fauci refused to testify to Congress on oath he must face sever consequences. Meanwhile his dishonest use of influence to benefit himself must be held to be corruption.
One big question is why no UK MSM will break ranks on Covid, Net Zero and much else.
The MSM supported “covid” 100%, they are hardly going to admit they were wrong.
Just following orders
He did testify to Congress under oath and he lied. When they hauled him back for a second time he refused to say anything other than read a statement that he was pleading the Fifth Amendment because one more lie and his Dementia Joe autopen pardon would not save him.
thank you.
And yet this is the kind of stuff being submitted to the British inquiry as ‘evidence’:
‘In mid-February, a contact in the US sent me a back-of-theenvelope calculation of how the epidemic might play out in the US, based in part on the epidemiological information emerging from the Diamond Princess. Assuming a population of 325 million and an attack rate of 30 per cent, the guesstimates were horrifying: 98 million people falling sick, 12 million hospitalised, two million in intensive care and between 300,000 and 1,000,000 deaths over the course of a year. These figures, sadly, were closer to the ballpark than President Trump’s analysis in March 2020 that the virus ‘will disappear’. By 22 February 2021, a year after the Diamond Princess episode, there had been 28 million confirmed cases in the US and more than 500,000 deaths.’
Jeremy Farrar (then a director at the Wellcome Trust advising the Trust on, for example, investments (!) in pharma/biotech (vaccine) companies and now, incredibly, W.H.O Chief Scientist)
Farrar trousered six figure bonuses from Wellcome 2020 onwards until he left (in search of safety) having been instrumental at Davos 2020 in causing the beginnings of the covid panic!

Witless and Unbalanced took just the same position in the uk. Neither of them are fit to practice as doctors or government advisors.
Excellent article. It even contained a few things I’d forgotten, like the exact data revealed by the Diamond Princess showing that most age cohorts had nothing to fear, except the CDC and the NIH (and those pathetic ‘next slide, please’ nightly waffles by the UK’s own ‘chief scientific advisors’).
thank you @stillonlplates
He has largely got away with it, and so have all the other people and institutions involved. Name anyone in a position of power who comes out of it with any credit, and name anyone who has paid any kind of penalty for what they did, or admitted they were wrong.
I think the only good that can come of this is that Fauci himself is put through such a living hell of enquiries and lawsuits right up to his dying day that anyone tempted to pull the same stunt again thinks twice.
His punishment will be the process and with a bit of luck it might serve as a cautionary tale .
He looked uncomfortable for sure, and there is a lot more weight behind the pushback in the US as they had many more powerful sceptics from the start.
Lying to Congress is a criminal offence of which he is guilty. It seems that a few states are going to launch cases against him.
I’ll be cracking open the Champagne if he goes down
An outbreak of opportunism in the pharmaceutical trade, perhaps? It may be that the level of risk for novel techniques is higher for some groups of patients than others, for obvious reasons. Then again, the issue of Emergency Use Authorization depended on the lack of an alternative.
Here is the order of things:
Doctor in China tries to sound the alarm about a new quite deadly respiratory virus. Chinese authorities try to hush it up.Said doctor dies. Outrage in among the Chinese public. The Chinese authorities go from trying to sweep it under the rug to full blown martial law and lock down of society. The world looks on in horror thinking the Chinese are nuts… until the Italians copy them and amazingly not only get away with it but seem to be cheered on by the public. The rest of the world starts copying – not the Chinese – but the Italians. Those are the facts.
My speculation is that at that point every institution and business that thought they could profit in some way from this jumped on the bandwagon and at that point there was no going back.
The deliberate lab leak can’t be ruled out, but I would bet on a perfect storm whipped up by opportunistic bad actors.
Yes, so they had to rubbish ivermectin as of no use when it had been identified in the Dominican Republic as early as June 2020 as being a successful treatment.
After the Diamond Princess I simply couldn’t understand why the panic carried on.
Likewise in Bergamo, it was the bed-bound in old people’s homes who were dying, & even then, there was obvious exaggeration.
And it is likely that the age range of the passengers on that ship was similar to the residents of such homes. Later on, it became obvious that many of the restrictions that were imposed were pointless for the vast majority, especially young students.
It was around this time that I realised that large numbers of our constabulary were irretrievably thick. Walks in empty countryside were likely (apparently) to spread the virus and playing outside with your kids in an enclosed garden was ‘killing people’.
I lost all patience with the whole exercise when I learned that they had classified those vaxed up to 14 days before death as ‘unvaxed’.
That FOI request revealed (much later) that the percentage of deaths attributable to covid alone was 12!
There was also the shameless skewing of statistics, so that people were recorded as having died OF COVID as opposed to WITH COVID.
Or OF the VACCINE, within 14 days of receiving it.
Was skiing then in the Dolomites. At first Italian TV mentioned all the Chinese workers but soon dropped that. Austrians threatened to shot the Brenner pass, but dropped that when Italians threatened to shut off oil. Just as well as our flight home was from Innsbruck
Isn’t the same question to be asked of all those involved: politicians, bureaucrats, “experts”, media around the World?
And isn’t the same question to be asked about global warming/climate change, impending Armageddon which always has to be rescheduled because it fails to show up when predicted?
You’re absolutely right.
Climate change is a replay. Less acute, more spread out over time, but it’s essentially the same playbook. Mesmerise people into thinking they are seeing things that they aren’t really seeing and recompose society around this illusion – the laws, the regulations, the institutions – remake it all to engineer a new (socialist) world order.
You’ve spotted it as well. And to say it’s “mesmerising” is exactly what it is.
I meet with a small group of friends from time to time, and have experienced the change in people pretty much since the covid bollocks. They’ll happily chat away about reducing their carbon footprint, getting solar panels cos it saves them loads of money etc etc. But if you dare disagree and back it up with some facts & figures, the room goes silent. To a man and woman, they don’t have a clue what they’re talking about, most of the time. Mesmerised by the constant drip that is our media.
I can tell you, there’s a lot of ‘em out there…
The answer is that Fauci was not calling the shots, he was just front of house. Subpoena Birx.
I think he was instrumental: carrying double maximum salaries and half a century of experience: Dr. Anthony Fauci served in the U.S. government for 54 years, from 1968 until December 2022.. I don’t think he needed Deborah Birx’ sign off on anything. For him I think it was a matter of trying to resurrect the potentially troubled legacy as the progenitor, in part, of the SARS CoV-2 outbreak – to make himself look like the hero for bringing mRNA platform into existence, bypassing phase 2 and phase 3. Someday, if MS gets cured, society will forgive more.
Every time I read or hear any of the revelations that Ron Johnson, Rand Paul and other senators are serving up on a gilded dish for the delectation of the world’s media I ponder: How much longer can our MSM somehow manage to not see them and report them? Their sheer perseverence is epic.
Making the full headline of the article: “Why Did Fauci Exaggerate the Threat From COVID-19 and why has the entire apparatus of society fought so hard to maintain the lie?”
For ever. There is no plausible course correction for them. It’s too many things. Covid, TDS, the climate hoax, the race baiting, the trans insanity. It’s too many things to row back from.
The one thing they hate most is having to own up about their own previous credulity (and lack of questioning journalism).
I don’t believe that I’ll ever really understand it, however long I live. Okay, I get it that BigPharma made very big bucks indeed from the scamdemic. I get it that it spread its largesse around, and a whole bunch of TV channels, publications and hacks cashed in. But even so, the lack of healthy scepticism was terrifying. It forces all thinking people to confront how totally mass opinion can be whipped up to a frenzy of unquestioning obedience.
Mass opinion being whipped via that route often supports military operations, otherwise known as war.
Ufff… tricky question, that headline…
Funnily enough, the Diamond Princess was one of the factors making me sceptical about the whole Covid scam. Willis Eschenbach wrote a great article in Wattsupwiththat:
https://wattsupwiththat.com/2020/03/16/diamond-princess-mysteries/
A lot of similar material was readily available. It amazed me at the time – and still does – how few people saw through all the bollocks. Indeed, it seemed that the more supposedly educated people were, the higher their gullibility.
Strange times. I will always be greatful to Toby for creating this website back then – a daily source of interesting articles and a place of sanity – where one could interact with like-minded people when, at times, one could sometimes feel quite alone.
Ditto, I read about the Diamond Princess on Peter Hitchens column.
Same, read about the Diamond Princess early on and it was then I realised something was completely off and we were entering a whole other world. Just thinking about it again makes me incredibly uneasy. PTSD I guess.
Yes; that cruise ship gave me the data I needed to convince my wife that she should not worry that I would refuse any ‘warp-speed’ vaxes.
It was a scary time indeed. On your comment re educated bods being taken in, I believe it was D Cummings who noted – people think that the uneducated are the easiest to fool, that is not true, it is the FT reading classes that are the easiest to fool, the well educated. I myself found that to be the case, with well educated (whatever that means) friends totally falling in line, while my plumber and gardener friends used to joke how ‘yeh, I am key worker so cannot catch the virus’. I witnessed people who should have known better mask up and embrace fear for two years….they were though either paid or on a pension. Take the money away and I wonder how many would have supported lockdown.
That, and the ludicrous Chinese videos the BBC gobbled up.
I’m a big fan of Willis Eschenbach my Facebook friend. I read that very same article and it was illuminating.
