The Met Office has claimed that a new Welsh temperature record for springtime was set in Cardiff last month.
The place where it was recorded, Bute Park, is a Class 5 junk site and is arguably one of the most inappropriate places to measure temperatures.
The weather station at Bute is just yards away from the large plant nursery, full of greenhouses and banks of solar panels on the roof of the visitor centre.
As the Bute Park information video relates, all its greenhouses are very carefully temperature controlled during hot weather. This means the venting of hot air.
If that was not bad enough, the weather station compound is surrounded by concrete on three sides and high vegetation on the other, which appears to have grown considerably since the 1978 photos below were taken.
Any one of these factors should disqualify Bute Park as being representative of temperatures in the locality. No wonder then that the Met Office itself has categorised it as Class 5, the worst of the World Meteorological Organisation's (WMO) five categories.
The WMO rules state that a pristine temperature reading site must meet the following criteria:
Bute Park is so poorly sited that it does not even meet Class 4 criteria, itself a junk designation. Instead, Class 5 covers all sites that don’t meet any criteria at all.

I got involved in a hot debate on FB about Kew. In the end I just dumped a chunk of the earlier D’S article on his head and that shut him up. He even sent me a photo of the Kew measuring station with the orangery in the background. I know Kew very well …I pointed out that behind where the photo was taken were three of the largest greenhouses in Kew surrounding the station on three sides.
So that is 32.9+/-5 degrees. I.e. anywhere between 27.9 and 37.9.
Oh no! Bute Park hits 37.9 deg! We’re doomed!
I think it is over reading by as much as 5 degrees due to contamination. So the real reading is more like 27.9 which is not a record.
The cult will brand you a denier, facts cannot be allowed to get in the way of dogma.
Excellent research Paul. On meeting a friend who has the climate anxiety/crisis/global warming gene I just showed him your and Chris Morrison’s articles from this magazine. “How do you explain record temperatures at the end of a runway?” I asked.
Silence as the cogs whirred.
The answer is that it is a record temperature for the end of that runway and nowhere else.
Ah yes, they warned us about runway global warming.

Do the Met office publish the raw data for the site ? Presumably it is digital which if the case we would see a spike & where is the next nearest temp recording because if 2 or 3 degrees lower then Bute unlikely to be representative of the area temp
Unlikely to be a spike at that location – just a constant unrepresentative overly high reading.
Great work on exposing the fraud Paul. Record Temps today – we measured it behind the greenhouses, in front of the running jet engine, on top of the burning hot wood stove, beside the highway. You know ‘The Science’. Deny this and the state must incarcerate and gas you to save democracy.
