The Department for Work and Pensions has increased the benefits paid out to households in polygamous marriages from April. The Express has the story.
The DWP has confirmed in its benefits uprating list that “additional spouses” in “polygamous marriages” are being given a 4.8% boost to their benefits from April, which would most likely be for husbands with multiple wives.
Those who are classed as an “additional spouse” in a polygamous marriage and are above state pension age were in 2025–26 able to claim an additional £119.50 per week of Pension Credit or Housing Benefit, with no given limit on the number of separate additional spouses who can claim in one household, other than the overall benefits cap per household per year.
From April 2026, this has been increased to £125.25 per week per additional spouse, a 4.8% increase in line with wage growth, which is how Pension Credit is automatically increased each spring, which is another £5.75 per week, or £299 extra per year.
The money is less than that person would be able to claim if they lived alone (£238 from April 2026), but is still extra money for a three-person household’s income compared to a two-person marriage.
The rule is not new, but the amount given to second wives is still being increased each year.
Although bigamy is illegal in the UK, the act of marrying more than one person at a time – polygamy – is not illegal if the marriages took place overseas.
This is legal where a person has married multiple wives (or husbands) overseas while legally living in a country where this is legally allowed, and then moved to the UK legally afterwards.
In that circumstance, a person now legally living in the UK, who legally married more than one spouse while living overseas, can then see their second, third and even fourth wife (or husband) all claim an additional £125.25 each per week, as long as that additional spouse came to the UK legally in their own right.
The DWP’s benefits and pension rates 2026 to 2027 document states: “If the claimant is a member of a polygamous marriage and all of the members of the marriage have attained pensionable age on or after April 1st 2021, for the claimant and the other party to the marriage [the allowance per week is now] £363.25.
“For each additional spouse who is a member of the same household as the claimant [the allowance per week is now] £125.25.”
It is understood the DWP believe the number of claimants to be small although it has not been able to provide a number for how many second or third wives do claim the benefit.

Truly ludicrous that extra payments can be claimed in this way when it is illegal for British citizens to have more than one spouse. What evidence has to be shown to demonstrate that those overseas marriages were really legal? The DWP might believe this involves a small number of people but a) it soon won’t be when this becomes widely known and b) it is a disgrace that they cannot state exactly how many cases there currently are.
Today on Turb Times Dr North reports on the local election results from bandit country – or Bradford as some people call it. He shows that the voting has followed sectarian lines with muslims voting in their kind and the English voting in ours. A stark example of the complete failure of the multi-culti Far Left dream. If Labour thought this move would secure the Muslim vote, they’ve another think coming. What is more likely is that the number of polygamous ‘marriages’ will increase as men will see a lifetime of easy money as well as a lot more sex.
Bigamy may be illegal in the U.K. on paper, but serial polygamy is widely practised – which has the advantage that the first wives are regarded officially as single mothers to be protected and provided for by the taxes of infidels.
Usually the last three of every Muslim man’s Islamically-permitted FOUR WIVES all routinely register as “single mothers” in the UK, and are each given their own council house for themselves and their children. The first wife is usually registered as the Muslim man’s “only” wife.
1) The DWP is acting ILLEGALLY by handing out these benefits, as the Daily Express article shows:
“Conservative Viscount Younger of Leckie replied: “Polygamous marriages are illegal in the UK. Universal Credit does not recognise polygamous households in the benefit system. Any adults living in the household would each have to claim as a single person on the basis of their own circumstances.” (2024)
However, it seems Stalin Starmer’s Labour Party apparently pushed through “The Polygamous Relationships Act” that came into force on January 1st, 2025, in order to allow Muslims to violate British laws against polygamy, as they have defied British laws against cruelty to animals, but it seems to have disappeared from the Parliamentary records.

So can I go marry someone in another country, bring them back here and then marry someone else? and then claim? if so can I recommned that all the Brits currently enjoying the fruits of my labour whilst on welfare, go do the same. The sooner the Country is broken by this lot, the sooner we can rebuild it.

So many questions in response to this story. Firstly, I thought that you were only allowed to bring a husband or wife into the country if you can prove they will not be a burden on the state or does that only apply to white Anglo-Saxons bringing a partner from the USA or Australia? Actually, I know that’s not the case, because a Sikh neighbour’s daughter is bringing her husband over from India and they are having to prove they are able to support him, so why is this allowed? Obviously just one religious group.
Secondly, if the benefits are less for multiple wives than single women, it makes you wonder why they haven’t cottoned on to this and are importing them as unmarried or widowed cousins, sisters or any other familial relation with children to allow the higher benefits – or maybe most of them are?
They’re missing a trick here – in a nearby neighbourhood an apparently single woman has been allocated a council house but seems to share this with another ‘couple’ who have another council house nearby. Rumour has it that this is a polygamous marriage with multiple kids in two council houses. Suggestions include they’re going to do the right-to-buy bit as soon as they’re eligible.
I am currently residing in Italy, I have spent the past three years gaining residency, I should have been allowed the “green card” under the terms of Brexit, but it coincided with Covid, I couldnt get back into italy for 2 years, and then the italians said I was too late.

I have never taken anything from the state, not even healthcare or education. For me to gain residency in Italy I have had to do the following, prove income from pensions of 30k inEuro per annum, have private health care, own or have a long lease on a home, a clean police record, and I must reside at a minimum 6 months of the year.

Hello Hester I too am resident in Italy, but I never had too many hurdles to clear, perhaps because i came here with my job.
Anyway the italians are a bit less of a soft touch for migrants, in my view, they are less reticent than brits about making certain comments. And it is less embarassing to be patriotic.
I agree, if the grooming gangs dared do what they do in the uk here in italy, the Italians would respond with significant force as a community. It just wouldn’t be allowed to happen.
