EuroNews has brought us the latest silly 'Greenland is Melting Away' scare story:
Rising temperatures are causing sea levels to rise around the world, putting millions at risk of severe flooding and coastal erosion. But in Greenland, the opposite is happening.
Researchers at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, which is part of the Columbia Climate School, warn that sea levels around the autonomous island are actually projected to fall despite heat-trapping emissions triggering record ice melt.
The study, published in Science Communications, predicts that in a low-emissions future, the decline in sea level will likely measure around 0.9 metres by the year 2100. In a high-emissions future, this will drop [sic] to 2.5 metres.
In fact, sea levels have been falling around much of Greenland for thousands of years, due to glacial isostasy. When the Ice Age ended around 11,000 years ago and the miles-thick glaciers began to recede, the land lying below them began to rebound as the weight lifted – a bit like a memory foam pillow.
There are no officially recognised tide gauges in Greenland, but at nearby Svalbard and Narvik, as well as other high latitude sites in Alaska, Sweden, Finland and Russia, this effect is clear. Sea levels have been continuously dropping since the start of records. It is not a new phenomenon.
Even large parts of Scotland are still rebounding by more than 0.5mm a year, despite the glaciers disappearing thousands of years ago.

“Rising temperatures” – temperatures have been rising for 10 000 years or so. That’s what happens when the Earth emerges from an Ice Age.
We know that because there are is no standardised network of measuring instruments covering the Earth’s surface, and that which exists covers less than 20%, nobody can say by how much or whether temperatures are rising all over with any certainty or credibility.
The Norse settled and farmed Greenland during the medieval warm period. It must have been warmer then.
Night-stopped Thule air base (as was) in 1980. Bought a case of discounted Michelob from the PX (base shop). Plopped it in the snow for an hour outside the accommodation block. Result: every bottle popped, rock solid ice. Pretty nippy! We’d done a Navex to the North Pole from Bodo (Norway) the previous day in an avionics equipped RAF Brittania. Interesting times.
I went through Kangerlussuaq a couple of times. Walking up to one of the ridges above the valley where the airfield is, the ice was clearly visible in the distance. I had my first experience of 24hr daylight there.
Not a great fan of the cold. VC10, Calgary (-15c) to Patrick AFB, Florida (+25c) called for some juggling of uniform.
Definitely in agreement. Give me the desert anytime.
I was on winter repair in Suffield a few years back, with the wind chill we got down to -50.

Scientific fraud all based on unvalidated models. But models full of assumptions are NOT SCIENCE and are not evidence of anything.
No wonder Trump wants Greenland – he wants to build a resort there a la his place in Florida
