The British countryside is “overwhelmingly white” and needs more halal food, a report from the University of Leicester’s Centre for Hate Studies on “rural racism” has claimed. The Telegraph has the story.
In [the report], academics claim that ethnic minority communities face “challenges” in the countryside because rural England is “overwhelmingly white”.
This creates feelings of “discomfort”, the report states, and the “psychological burden” that comes with “navigating predominantly white spaces”.
The report also raises concerns that traditional pub culture and other “monocultural customs” are exclusionary.
It states that the countryside lacks “appropriate facilities to meet religious and cultural needs”, and does not cater for “dietary norms that are rooted in religious or cultural practice”, such as kosher and halal, adding to feelings of exclusion.
To tackle “rural racism” and increase diversity, a series of recommendations are set out in a section of the report, “How Can We Make the Countryside More Inclusive?”
The report notes that “the availability of halal food or spaces for prayer could make a significant difference in whether people feel comfortable visiting the countryside”.
It states that rural businesses should adapt to improve “cultural sensitivity”, saying: “Welcoming minoritised individuals into the countryside means more than tolerance; it requires thoughtful adaptation, sustained inclusion efforts and a willingness to change.”
These suggestions mark the conclusion of a two-year project led by Prof Neil Chakraborti, Leicester’s Hate Studies lead, along with his colleagues Amy Clarke and Prof Corinne Fowler.
Prof Fowler assisted the National Trust’s controversial 2021 report into the colonial connections of its country houses.
‘Rural Racism Project: Towards an Inclusive Countryside’ was funded by the Leverhulme Trust, a charity established by William Lever, the first Viscount Leverhulme, the plantation-owning soap magnate behind Unilever.

Well, if the minority individuals concerned are willing to change, there’ll be no problem. Remember the concept of “integration”, whereby someone who chose to settle in another country operating with a different culture accepted that they would need to make an effort to fit in? I wouldn’t move to Saudi Arabia and expect them to open a few pubs and wine bars for me.
As a graduate of Leicester Uni, I’m utterly ashamed of my alma mater. They keep sending requests that I remember them in my will – they must be joking. Whatever else, Halal meat is an abomination, produced by a method of slaughtering animals that is not acceptable in our country, which prides itself on respect for animal rights and I am at a loss as to why it is permitted here. Perhaps the Palestine Action brigade (no doubt full of vegans) can enlighten me.

They were only given “religious exemptions” from British law after years of whining and complaining, political lobbying, threats and backhanders.
Those exemptions should be abolished. They can easily import frozen meat from their own countries where needlessly torturing animals is allowed.

Not many ethnic arrivals want to Farm I find, neither do they particularly want to work in Pubs, that is the essential employment in rural areas.
Someone might point out to the writer there isn’t a lot of anything in the rural areas except fields, sheep, cows, the odd horse and small villages, that’s why its called rural. Churches there are many mostly built hundreds of years ago on the back of the wool trade, most of these are only used once a month as there is a shortage of vicars and congregation.
Having been bought up in a once thriving heavy industrial part of the country, it was full of “ethnics”, why? because that is where all the jobs were nothing to do with the particular welcoming reception of the native Brit.

Halal slaughter should be banned everywhere, it is unnecessarily cruel.
Yes, both Halal & its equivalent Kosher Butchery are illegal in Britain, breaking British laws against animal cruelty.

Easy: Someone who was illegitimately denied majoritity by members of the minoriphobe majority hate group.
Another attempt highlighting a slightly different angle: An individual becomes minoritised if its claims that it absolutey doesn’t belong to the majority group for reason X are accepted by members of the majority group for reason X.

I am looking forward to this month as it is ploughing match time where we will gather on a farm, exchange pleasantries, tuck into a bacon roll and watch the white chaps – and occassional chappesse – get on with the ploughing. A bit later it will be time for a pint of local beer, and maybe a burger.
Does Mr Modi’s anti Christian India figure in the cross hairs of this Centre for Hate Studies, probably not, or indeed Saudi and most of the states of its religion – no churches are allowed at all. This Centre seems to amount to political activism, it cannot possibly expect rural England, some three thousand years and more populated by white skinned peoples, to be peppered with non whites after a few decades of mass migration, if it is at all rational. This Centre seems to want a sort of colonisation of such areas in a sort of Soviet repopulation programme. Maybe the agitation to build a large Mosque in the Lake District is part of this colonisation? One wonders how a report on the rural countryside in Great Britain, being “overwhelmingly white” might have gone down 30 or 40 years ago and whether a similarly scholared statement regarding skin pigmentation on the populations of Lewisham, Hackney or Bradford might go down in today’s climate.

Offs, I have just watched some socialist idiot on Patrick Christy’s show supporting this rubbish, because he lived in the countryside and knows what a bunch of racist bastards those of us who don’t live in wonderful, diverse, culturally enriched cities are. He even went on to say, shock, that when a group of white people get together in the countryside, they can say nasty things.
