The American election is very interesting. This is because of what Trump symbolises, and because of what Harris symbolises. Harris symbolises, to her supporters, hope, care, unselfishness, responsibility. She symbolises, to her opponents, continuity, the Establishment, the deep state, war, the Covid-corrupt, climate-corrupt, corporate-corrupt elites. Trump symbolises, to his supporters, authenticity, common sense, a return to an older order, liberalism, prosperity, freedom from fanaticism. He symbolises, to his opponents, the possibility of the overturning of established American order so great that there is almost no limit to the hyperbole possible, including even reference to Hitler.
Politics is about binaries. But each side differs about the operative binary.
Democrats by and large still operate with the Left-Right binary. This is actually a false binary, and has always been a false binary (or a twisted one), since the Left assumes it is the centre, and that the Right is a sort of tolerated aberration: as soon as it seems threatening it is called "hard Right" or "far Right". Even J.S. Mill, almost two centuries ago, thought the Tory party was the stupid party.
Republicans – not the traditional ones but the ones who have accepted the Trump imprimatur – operate with a different binary. I think that we still lack a language for this. Opponents of Trump call him "populist". This is alright, as far as it goes, but the problem is that the word ‘populist’ is now more a term of abuse than a term of analysis. As

Profanity and abuse will be removed and may lead to a permanent ban.
Maybe it should be court, country or city: Ghengis Khan is the permanent khan of London, with no limit on the number of times he can stand as mayor. He imposes taxes, bans lingerie advertising in sharia style, ignores studies he has commissioned on ULEZ minimal impact on air pollution, creates jobs. He seizes cars and sells them. Simon Jenkins mentioned in the article lauded the American mayoral system which we have found to be feudal. Khan has a baked in 20% tribal majority. Who created this terrible totalitarian system?
“Nothing is going to change until Country political language becomes more sophisticated and civilised and intellectually imposing than it currently manages to be. Farages and Robinsons are important, but they have becoming embodiments of a taboo. There need to be more Starkeys and Sumptions.”
So members of the Establishment are the only ones who will command the necessary level of attention?

If I lived in the US, I’d vote for Trump, Harris is a mere puppet, same as Bidet(n) was, god help the US and the world if she wins, .
Another very interesting piece from the consistently interesting James Alexander.
“One of the great achievements of English politics is the almost entire suppression of or incorporation of country protests since around 1846. Chartism was snuffed out; and, later, Socialism, was assimilated.”
Isnt that back to front? Socialism assimilated English/British politics, certainly evident since 1945, the sacred NHS, Statism, welfare state and just look at Comrade Starmerski.
So long as Gove is editor of the Speccie it will not change direction.
Monbiot, net worth £5m, lives in a giant plush Oxfordshire mansion, wants to abolish farming and claims an extra 0.001% of a harmless trace gas plant food that keeps everything on this planet alive is making trees burst into flames. That’s all you need to know. Him and his malignant anti-human cult are by far our biggest threat. He blocked me on X recently after I sent him this.. I wear it as a badge of pride.
brilliant- blocked 🚫 by monbiot as a badge of honour! 👨⚖️
There is an awful lot of projection coming from the left. Monbiot, who would have us eating grass and living in caves, telling us of the ‘threat of Trump’ is so laughable as to be absurd.
‘Threat of Drumpf’.
But no threat from the Corona fascism, or green fascism, or the WEF/UN fascism.
Or the Totalitarianism of the actor pretending to be Biden and that half wit retard Harris. Just puppets of the deep state aren’t they.
Vote fraud going on is massive and quite open. In many states the machine UI when Drumpf is selected, choose Harris. Just a glitch you understand.
Consistently my question too: what threat, precisely, do people like Andrew Sullivan see in Trump? He aims to shake things up; isn’t that what a vote for “change” is all about? But as you say, why are they blubbing about things they imagine will happen, when terrible things are already happening?!? I just don’t get it.
Sullivan – to take him as representative – considers Trump an existential threat to democracy on the grounds that he “didn’t accept” the last election result. But should a candidate defeated by proven underhand tactics not at least query that result? Why shouldn’t he? Did anything terrible actually happen as a result of Trump’s objections? Of course not. I fear the same is about to happen.
I cannot for the life of me work out why anybody listens to a word Monbiot says. He’s a complete phoney.
The only threat he represents is to THEM …… and they know it.
That’s why they’re deflecting.
Leftards all across the West are obsessed with censoring free speech and destroying the country they’re in charge of. When Harris was asked in an interview what she would do differently to Biden she actually answered, ”I can’t think of anything”. So there you have it. If Harris were to cheat her way to a victory Americans can expect more of the same, probably for a very long time;
”Mediocre elites created leftism by sublimating their narcissistic drive to destroy everything superior to them into the revolutionary politics of a purported underclass. But the elites are the oppressed underclass they’ve been waiting for. They fight for their own right to seize power.
And they don’t stop fighting once they get it.
Stop by a leftist rally and you’ll rarely find anyone who ever worked for a living or intends to. The Biden-Harris admin was hobbled by the sheer inability of anyone involved in it to understand kitchen table economics as anything other than a longread thinkpiece about shrinkflation.
Leftists care as much about the working class as you do about the plight of the Tibetans. Probably less. Workers, women, coal miners, the unemployed on bread lines, Gazans, gays, lesbians, transgenders… Read more »
