Trans campaigner Faye ‘Trust Fund Ozu’ included the threatening words as part of a 90s-themed video titled “J.K. Rowling diss track”.
The video sees the singer against an animated backdrop with vocals about “killing TERFS” [Trans exclusionary radical feminists] and “J.K. hope you fit in a hearse”.
The Harry Potter novelist posted screen grabs of the song on Twitter and wrote: “I’m afraid I can’t give a shout out to everyone promising to murder me – there are so many of you, and I’m a busy woman – but this one deserves a mention for the nineties rave vibe.”
Actor James Dreyfus reported the activist’s post on Twitter, but the social media platform failed to uphold the complaint over the alleged threat as it hadn’t “broken its safety policies”.
Dreyfus tweeted the response and said: “Surprise, Surprise! So, death threats = Good. Saying ‘women are women’ = Bad. Congratulations Twitter Support. You’ve hit rock bottom. Seek help.”
Meanwhile, when Professor Carl Heneghan posted a link to a Mail on Sunday article about dodgy Covid death stats, Twitter branded the tweet “fake news” and suspended his account, only restoring it after a furious backlash.

We, I mean you as I don’t frequent Twitter or any mainstream echo chambers anymore, should not complain and let them get more and more extreme so that ordinary people start to notice and leave them. Leave the likes of Twitter to the idiots, they’re made for each other.
Well, then you go to a non-mainstream echo chamber. Twitter has massive reach, if you want to convince Joe Normal of something, which you might well want to do (for example, lockdowns are bad). You really need to legally prevent mass communication platforms from censoring anything. Newspapers and even TV channels are publishers and can have opinions, Twitter etc are different animals.
Trouble is…The idiots are the majority, and you know what that means in a Dictamocracy.
There’s no reason why Twitter should delete something just because it’s bad poetry and of an embarrassingly poor taste. Either this is legally actionable – in my opinion, this should certainly not be the case – which is for a court to determine. Or it ought to be allowed.
Everybody who wants censorships always wants to censor only the bad guys.

Considering that humans are sexually reproducing mammals, they have biologically determined sexes. Hence, somebody who claims otherwise isn’t telling the truth. It may seem tempting to prohibit expression of such lies, but that’s simply unworkable in practice.
Before this could be done, some sort of authority responsible for truth would need to be created. An authority responsible for truth did prosecute Galileo in the past and this was certainly done people by who were honestly convinced that the population must to be protected from outrageous falsehoods like the ones Galileo proclaimed. Even when true and false can be defined, we can never really be certain that what we hold to be true today will still make sense tomorrow. Then, there’s an extremely large space where we don’t even claim to know this. Different subject matter experts have different opinions because they interpret facts in different ways and nobody knows for certain which interpretation is the correct one.

Ok, so Twitter is a politically motivated media organisation with an agenda. That much seems obvious.
People developed an expectation that it was a platform for free speech because maybe it was initially. But it isn’t.
Now what?
How is it different to The Sun in the 90s that seemingly had the power to swing elections?
Back then there wasn’t anywhere I could go and post my thoughts and ideas to be seen potentially by thousands or millions. So I’m sort of back where I was 30 years ago in that respect. (Well, i always was because I never used Twitter and in any case, I think it creates the illusion that anyone can have a voice that projects widely, when in fact as I understand it it’s bloody hard to get anyone to actually pay attention to what you have to say.)
In any case, how much does it matter?
Is it just a case of accepting that it’s not a free speech platform and moving on?
The Sun was openly partisan and was/is a newspaper not a communication platform. There were other newspapers with differing political views. Where are the legacy media giants, social media platforms with mass reach, global corporations, entertainment firms whose leadership are actively on the political right and not the left? There are none, I would say. That’s the difference.
Twitter, Fascist book and google, are acting like the post office opening your mail, reading your messages, making huge amounts of money by stealing their content and then deciding whether they will deliver them based on your politics.

Does it matter? The Online Harms Bill has that covered. It will make it every platform’s responsibility to take away “harmful” content, like Prof. Heneghan’s scientific evidence.

For many people under 40, Facebook and Google are the internet.
To run online distribution networks for genuinely critical material is a tall order, at least where you are doing more than preaching to the converted.
Even many who are critical and reasonably sussed are too lazy to join, say, an email mailing list. But some will join Telegram groups until they’re blue in the face – soon getting burnt out, at least in the case of the least gullible, because of the nature of that medium. Or they will post to “Have Your Say” websites like this one here for a while. They like things “convenient”, as the adman says.
But resistance and war aren’t convenient.
Distribution will have to be mainly offline. Which isn’t exactly without difficulty either. For instance, many laser printers and photocopiers put tracker dots on their output nowadays. The “machine identification code” is printed several times on each piece of A4 paper.
