Lockdown Sceptics Were Publicly Shamed and Vilified for Saying Lockdowns Won’t Work – But Now We Have Evidence They Were a Disaster

Lockdown sceptics were publicly shamed and vilified for saying lockdowns won’t work in March 2020, but now we have evidence they were a disaster. May it never happen again.

3 min read

Toby has a new piece in Mail+ today, in which he says he was publicly shamed and vilified in March 2020 for saying lockdowns won’t work, but now has evidence they were a disaster.

A new report by one of America’s leading universities has concluded that the lockdowns imposed across the world over the past two years have had “little to no” effect on saving lives.

According to the Centre for Applied Economics at Johns Hopkins, the lockdowns in Europe and the United States only succeeded in reducing Covid mortality by 0.2%.

This conclusion wasn’t based on a single study, but on what academics called a ‘meta-study’.

That is, the economists at Johns Hopkins looked at 24 different empirical studies that examined the impact of non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) on reducing Covid deaths.

The research the authors compiled on stay-at-home orders found that they had slightly more impact than lockdowns, reducing Covid mortality by 2.9%. But studies of specific NPIs (facemasks, closing non-essential businesses, border closures, school closures, limits on social gatherings) found there was “no broad-based evidence” to suggest they had a great impact on Covid deaths. One exception to the rule was closing non-essential businesses, which reduced Covid deaths by 10.6%.

However, the economists found that limits on the number of people who could gather in one place, such as the rule of six, may have increased Covid mortality by 1.6%.

The negative impact of the interventions, on the other hand, was enormous, with GDP in 2020-21 shrinking by 9.9%, with an estimated cost of £250 billion. There was also the social cost and the cost to children’s education, with a report this week from the Centre for Social Justice finding that 100,000 children still haven’t returned to school. Plus, of course, “the NHS became, to all intents and purposes, a Covid-only service”, leading to a projected up to 12 million people being on the NHS waiting list by 2025, according to the National Audit Office.

No wonder, says Toby, the authors of the Johns Hopkins report conclude that “lockdown policies are ill-founded and should be rejected as a pandemic policy instrument”.

This is a personal vindication, Toby says.

On March 31st, 2020, one week after the first lockdown was imposed, I wrote an article for a magazine saying I thought the Government had overreacted and should have stuck to its own Pandemic Preparedness Strategy, which cautioned against quarantining the healthy as well as the sick.

I argued that the costs of placing everyone in the U.K. under virtual house arrest would vastly outweigh the benefits.

As a result, I was publicly shamed and vilified. Shortly after the article appeared, I became the No1 trending topic on Twitter – an honour that no one wants. Tens of thousands of people joined the pile-on, denouncing me as a ‘Nazi’, a ‘eugenicist’ and a ‘Tory scumbag’. Some people even called for me to be locked up, so dangerous was my dissenting point of view.

But I have stuck to my guns for the best part of two years, including setting up a website called the Daily Sceptic where people can challenge the prevailing orthodoxy, and it now looks as though I was right.

The cure was worse – much worse – than the disease.

Former lockdowns zealots with new-found scepticism should be welcomed not shamed, Toby argues: “The only thing that matters to me is that we never lock down the people of these islands again.”

Worth reading in full, obviously.

You can find the Daily Sceptic‘s summary of the Johns Hopkins report here.

Lockdowns did not work because they were never lockdowns, so were doomed to fail. A lockdown requires strict quarantining of everyone – so no travel, no deliveries, no admissions to hospital (and no discharges), no working, no socialising. And this would have to have been worldwide. What we got, however, as was elegantly put by one of your articles, was a lockdown of the frightened middle class who were serviced by the non- lockdowned workers. Every new wave was precipitated by introduction from abroad. They were not, therefore, lockdowns at all. And, of course, even preventing any immigration was also impossible because people were allowed in when they were infected but asymptomatic. The Australian experience proved that.

At least it does now appear that viral mutation has resulted in a downgrading of serious risk to that of the common cold, so perhaps we will not be far behind Sweden and Denmark in abandoning useless and unnecessary restrictions. It is a pity that the “scientists” abandoned their pandemic management measures thanks to hysteria and the perceived risk of doing nothing when (almost) everyone else was doing something.

Despicable lying propaganda, worthy of Goebbels, deployed by the entire Johnson Government under supervision of the psy-op operators from Sage while the media were doctored and censored to conceal the truth – and still are !

We need a clean out at the top of this country!

A Government ‘ at war’ with its own people ? Who would have thought it!

‘Nero’ Johnson parties while England groans – Did he plan to “Build Back Better” with his ‘Golden House’ on the ruins?

I am so sick of this covid aka great reset nonsense. But I undertake as a duty to inform people about facts about cheaply, effectively and qucikly curing this so called virus symptoms. Search for c19ivermectin on your search engine. On that website you will find as of right now there are 142 studies. 93 of them are peer reviewed about curing covid19 with ivermectin. These are undeniable evidences. Get your ivermectin before it is too late https://ivmpharmacy.com

I’ve never given a toss if someone agrees or not. It shouldn’t matter. If it does matter it means that you are not operating on a sincere basis. No one has ever agreed with me even in school and I am neither happy or sad about it. Don’t look for fellowship it will lead you away from true spirituality.

It’s striking to me that Facebook can ban a private group (with 140,000 members) seeking to organize a peaceful protest against vaccine passports and no one even bats an eye that they did this. Certainly, no news organization has published an editorial condemning this brazen censorship. This is simply okay. No big deal anymore.

Contrast this with the reaction if Facebook had banned a group trying to support the Black Lives Matter protests. These protests actually resulted in many deaths and destruction of property on a massive scale.

The lesson: All speech – all protestors – are not created equal. It’s okay to discriminate against one group if this group’s cause doesn’t align with the Powers that Be.

It’s a good schtick in terms of the masks because when you look at them you can see that the mask wearers are already damaged people and now they have something to latch onto. And the last few decades have messed enough people up real horrorshow so it is easy to switch it on and off. Some people call them zombies but at least zombies tend to want brains. I have no idea what these people want.

Rudolf Steiner talked about how the fear of the contagion might very well propagate the contagion. We live in a world of thought forms and it would do us well to get out of it. That’s the only way to set aside a beautiful reality for the younguns.

I don’t think many of us will disagree with this assessment save for the idea that lockdowns saved 0.2 lives. I am personally convinced that many more people died as a direct result of them. But how much mainstream media coverage is this research being afforded?

A bit more about the attempt to alert the NZ government of contamination/nanotech in the vaxxes.
After being denied a meeting with the Director General of Health and other health officials, the information was presented to a Health Select Committee through lawyer Sue Grey where again attempts were made to stop the information from being presented.
Dr Matthew Shelton talks to Sue Grey about the findings and Donna Pokere-Phillips, a Maori Minister of the People outside of parliament

I confess that I have, for the most part, enjoyed posting comments on ‘coronavirus’ stories on the BBC website (under a different nom de keyboard – it’s another thing I have had a laugh over during all of this: all the different personas I have taken on, especially for Trick and Trap). Yes, I was careful in my framing of my point of view (there’s no point in being awkward if your post is removed), but it was ALWAYS opposite the tripe prevailing there.

It’s gratifying that everything I posted there has now come to pass, or is now accepted fact, so my thanks to everyone here, atl and btl, for keeping me properly informed.

Yes, Toby was absolutely correct. None of the suffering we have all been through has achieved anything at all. Focussed protection would have saved far more lives at far less cost and with far less suffering. Instead of tearing families apart, we could have brought healthy people together to protect the vulnerable.

Next we need to expose the ridiculousness of vilifying the unvaccinated, the pointlessness of restrictions on international travel and the insanity of chronic maskitis.

As someone here said the damage has been done and cannot be undone.

However much we would like to, you cannot hurt those at fault in their lack of intellect, their lack of reason, their lack of integrity or their lack of principles

But you can hurt them in the pocket. Perhaps Toby and everyone else who was shamed, abused, vilified, no platformed, ridiculed and insulted should launch legal action against each and every person and institution that engaged in such activity

defamation of character is a good start, followed by damage to reputation, loss of earnings, libel and slander and consequential damages

we need people in power who weren’t in favour of lockdown. only then will it all come out. I’d like to see genuine prosecutions of Whitty. He was CMO when either he left us without a plan or the plan he signed off was binned.

I’m still waiting for a journo to ask the people who wrote the 2011 pandemic response plan i) why did you write something so bad or ii) was it actually good and what did you think about them throwing it away?

Of course they were a disaster generally. But I can’t be alone in knowing people who are still voluntarily locked down because they think the situation is the same as it was back in 2020. They are not helped by being the sort of people who trust the BBC implicitly (after all, when they were children, wasn’t it the good old BBC who kept them fully informed and comforted by news stories of Blighty’s battle against Hitler) and are swallowing doom laden stories wholesale. Then again, we’ve got the trumpeting of the covid ‘restrictions’ going, when they haven’t really at all. If you are of a nervous (or cynical) disposition, you might feel that the withdrawal is temporary, pending the virus (and Chris Whitty) coming back to terrorise us once again, so what is the point of getting back to normal.
Personally I will only relax when the coronavirus laws expire and are not replaced, although I am concerned that certain bills currently aimed at parliament might be a partial permanent replacement for parts of that legislation.

Professor Kees van der Pijl discusses his new book which explains how the virus crisis is a fraud and cover for political seizure of power. The medical emergency is just a pretext for digital identity passport systems. He discusses the players behind this ruling oligarchy whose concentration is unprecedented in history. Elites are using a strategy of tension to subjugate an otherwise unruly global populace which has been on the verge of 1848-style revolution. The medical phase of the coup can turn toward war (e.g. Russia) as another means of consolidating rule. The ruling class believes they have a small window of time to cement their power on the heels of the historic AI revolution. He explains the mechanisms by which the oligarchy is able to impose worldwide regulatory processes on entire continents and how China is cooperating in this ‘ultra-imperialism’ with the West. He’s optimistic that the political project that is Covid can’t go on for much longer, will fall apart, and that they do not yet possess the technology required to roll out a total digital control system. A core group of society is also increasingly rejecting their insane vision of the future.

Given that just about every Tory and Labour MP were all in favour of lockdown you can bet your balls that absolutely everything will be done to ignore this finding and those like it.

Of course those responsible will claim that Ferguson’s comedy study claiming that lockdown saved hundrds of thousands of lives will be held aloft as the most high proof.
