Omicron Variant Places Question Mark Over Vaccine Efficacy – But Evidence for the Enduring Power of Natural Immunity Remains Strong

by Will Jones
1 December 2021 7:00 AM

Moderna boss Stephane Bancel has said he expects a “material drop” in the efficacy of his company’s vaccine against the new Omicron variant. He told the Financial Times:

I think it’s going to be a material drop. I just don’t know how much because we need to wait for the data. But all the scientists I’ve talked to … are like, ‘This is not going to be good.’ … There is no world, I think, where [the effectiveness] is the same level … we had with Delta

He also said it would take months for drugs companies to update the vaccines. This means any Omicron wave is likely to have arrived, peaked and receded before the shots can be manufactured and widely administered.

A more sanguine Boris Johnson claimed on Tuesday afternoon that there are good grounds for believing third vaccine doses will give “considerable protection” against the Omicron variant. This view was given support by Dr Ugur Sahin, co-founder of BioNTech and one of the scientists behind the Pfizer vaccine, who said he remains optimistic that the jab will continue to provide protection against severe disease (though, tellingly, did not mention protection against infection). “Our message is: Don’t freak out, the plan remains the same: Speed up the administration of a third booster shot,” he told the Wall Street Journal – though some might point out Dr Sahin may have other reasons for wanting to “speed up” the distribution of his product.

SAGE member Professor John Edmunds has warned that reported infections are rising rapidly in South Africa, where the new variant was first detected last week. While data from Gauteng province, where the new variant was discovered on November 24th, showed a slight decline on Sunday and Monday, this may be a weekend effect, and there has certainly been a sharp rise overall in the past eight days. It is worth keeping an eye on the region to see how it develops.

Daily new reported infections in Gauteng Province, South Africa

It has also transpired in the last couple of days that the variant was already in other countries including the Netherlands several days prior to its discovery in South Africa. Nonetheless, the WHO has said the earliest known specimen of the variant was collected on November 9th in southern Africa.

While vaccines may work less effectively against Omicron than against earlier variants such as Delta (efficacy against which, particularly after several months, is anyway disputed), natural immunity arising from previous infection is looking more robust.

Two new research papers, one in the NEJM and one in the Lancet, provide further compelling evidence of the protective power of natural immunity. In the NEJM paper, researchers from Qatar report on reinfections in the country during the back-to-back Alpha- and Beta-associated surges in the first half of 2021. Examining medical records from all 353,326 people who received a positive PCR test in the country between February 28th 2020 and April 28th 2021 (excluding 87,547 people who had received a vaccine), they found that the odds of severe disease on reinfection were 0.12 times those at first infection (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.03-0.31), which translates to 88% protective efficacy. There were no cases of critical disease or death on reinfection versus 28 and seven respectively at first infection, giving 100% efficacy against these outcomes (though the small numbers here resulted in large confidence intervals). Putting the three outcomes of severe, critical, or fatal disease together, they found odds of 0.1 on reinfection compared to first infection (CI: 0.03-0.25), for an efficacy of 90%.

Four reinfections were severe enough to require hospitalisation, they say, but none led to ICU admission or ended in death. “Reinfections were rare and were generally mild, perhaps because of the primed immune system after primary infection,” they write.

They add that in earlier studies they had looked at the protective efficacy of natural infection against reinfection and estimated it at 85% or greater. Putting these figures together, this means prior infection has an efficacy of at least 98.5% against severe reinfection when compared to the immunologically naïve with no previous infection or vaccination. Does this mean that infection with SARS-CoV-2 will behave immunologically like the other ‘common cold’ coronaviruses and provide long-term immunity against severe illness, even if protection against mild reinfection fades, they ask? “If this were the case with SARS-CoV-2, the virus (or at least the variants studied to date) could adopt a more benign pattern of infection when it becomes endemic,” they suggest.

The Lancet paper supports these tentative conclusions. Reviewing all relevant papers on the online medical database PubMed, the authors Noah Kojima and Jeffrey D Klausner from the University of California find seven studies which show the risk of infection decreases by 80·5-100% for the previously infected compared to the immunologically naïve.

Kojima and Klausner make the case for the superiority of natural immunity versus vaccine immunity, including where variants are concerned.

It is known that SARS-CoV-2 infection induces specific and durable T-cell immunity, which has multiple SARS-CoV-2 spike protein targets (or epitopes) as well as other SARS-CoV-2 protein targets. The broad diversity of T-cell viral recognition serves to enhance protection to SARS-CoV-2 variants, with recognition of at least the Alpha (B.1.1.7), Beta (B.1.351), and Gamma (P.1) variants of SARS-CoV-2. Researchers have also found that people who recovered from SARS-CoV infection in 2002-03 continue to have memory T cells that are reactive to SARS-CoV proteins 17 years after that outbreak. Additionally, a memory B-cell response to SARS-CoV-2 evolves between 1·3 and 6·2 months after infection, which is consistent with longer-term protection.

Some people who have recovered from COVID-19 might not benefit from COVID-19 vaccination. In fact, one study found that previous COVID-19 was associated with increased adverse events following vaccination with the Comirnaty BNT162b2 mRNA vaccine (Pfizer-BioNTech). In addition, there are rare reports of serious adverse events following COVID-19 vaccination. In Switzerland, residents who can prove they have recovered from a SARS-CoV-2 infection through a positive PCR or other test in the past 12 months are considered equally protected as those who have been fully vaccinated.

Given this evidence, they argue, “policy makers should consider recovery from previous SARS-CoV-2 infection equal to immunity from vaccination for purposes related to entry to public events, businesses, and the workplace, or travel requirements”.

Based on the studies to date, natural immunity appears to convey 80-90% protection against reinfection and, on top of that, 90% protection against serious disease once reinfected, giving around 99% protection against serious reinfection. This protection doesn’t appear to have waned over time or against new variants in the way vaccine protection has done. Omicron may tax the vaccines, but on the evidence so far it seems unlikely to tax natural immunity in the same way.

Same here, in mid/late March 2020 I had 4-6 hours of a noticeable fever and racing heart … was that all it was?? My sister had it in Feb. 2020, followed by almost 6 months of fatigue, but IMO they don’t take care of their health.

I follow the advice of Dr. Webb on how to stay healthy … geddit? I now haven’t had a bad cold or flu since 1977.

My chance of getting an immunity test is about the same as that of a meteorite landing on 10 Downing St. during the next cabinet meeting.

I cannot for the life of me quite understand why the concept of natural immunity conferred by exposure/infection has been, is and will be ignored.
It’s almost as though something sinister is going on.

One problem with that is covid is a virus subject to Gain Of Function. We have no idea what’s been designed into it. That’s why, in my opinion, global governments have hit the panic button.

Every government has a Porton Down, and they’re not developing revolutionary knitting patterns.

Every government knows the potential of an engineered bio weapon because the scientists screwing around with them have told them precisely the devastation they can reap.

Here’s hoping covid is like everything else the Chinese makes. A week after unwrapping it on Christmas Day it’s busted.

As I have mentioned before – I’ve had covid back in March 2020 (flu-like) recovered after a 3/4 days – recently caught tone of the variants (very mild cold-like with a slight sore throat) recovered after just a day or two. I’m the only one in my family who is not jabbed – everyone who has been jabbed and/or double-jabbed has been coming down with all kinds of flu/cold-like viruses on a regular basis ever since – a few months ago it was cold-like virus which they could not seem to shake off sometimes lasting weeks (this is when I caught my mild cold-like variant lasting just a day or two). Now they are all coming down with heavy cold-like symptoms once again but this time with coughs and sore throats too – will I catch this new bug going around? I don’t know? I’m in close proximity with these double-jabbers on a daily basis – so I probably could but I was amazed how long I evaded the last bout of cold-like viruses that were going around – dissapointed when i finally catch the mild cold-like virus. But what I’ve noticed is that if i do get any symptoms they tend to be very mild compared to the double-jabbed who surround me who all appear to get hit very hard with these new viruses.

I’m absolutely confident that when it comes to these mutating viruses that natural immunity is king – which is why I won’t have the jab.

PS: Lots of people complaining of side-effects after the booster jab – so thats another good reason not to get the jab.

27 year old, double-jabbed, semi-pro cyclist I work with was bed ridden for 5 days with Covid, he’s made his recovery return to the office, he’s lost a ton of weight. AND had Shingles, one of the known “vaccine” side affects – I’m convinced he suffered worse because of ADE – tried explaining this to him – “imagine how bad I would have been without the vaccine though…”

Both my husband and I had it in February 2020. My case was really mild malaise and loss of taste and smell, he had the same plus a lingering cough. We have both been exposed since and have tested negative every time. We travel for business and have been in hot zones. I had to have surgery last April (thankfully I had private insurance or I’d be dead, literally). I’m sure natural we have natural immunity but unless we shutter our company we are forced to get the jab to travel. Luckily neither of us have ever had an adverse reaction to any drug (even all the homemade ones from youth 😎).

G******* is a loaded word which annoys me. We have no good evidence for that right now. I thought this website was about scientific scepticism and trying to follow data, not dogma.

We do have plenty of evidence that humans in large organisations behave awfully and are happy to follow stupid, panicky or crooked orders issued by those in charge. That’s how Thalidomide and Vioxx happened. We also have evidence that some of the elite, including the pharma industry, are enriching themselves hugely at our expense. All this is awful enough.

Tell me how, within hours of this supposed new variant being found, they can publish a whole list of short, medium and long term symptoms? And isnt it strange that many of these symptoms mirror the exact same severe side effects of taking the gene therapy drug? A cynic would accuse them of lining up Moronic to be the fall guy for gene therapy induced deaths and injuries.

Evidence suggest that the WEF were talking about this “new variant” weeks ago before it was even announced.

( See RFK J’s book the “Real Anthony Fauci” for exactly what ‘new variant’ actually means. Mike Yeadon is also on record with an explanation of the insignificant differences between these “variants” when presented with a healthy human immune system).

Well when I got Covid in August I volunteered for NHS antibody testing, and I took a test a couple of weeks after recovering from the worst of it (and I had it pretty bad).

The results showed I had antibodies you get from natural infection and those you can get from a vaccine.

As I’ve not been vaccinated then both types must have come from the infection, which proves, at least in my case that I have a better antibody response than those who’ve just had a vaccine.

I think it’s madness to vaccinate those who’ve had the bug, as there are trustworthy reports that the chances of a bad vaccine reaction are increased.

Ignorance of natural immunity tells you everything you need to know about the corporate capture of public health. They know. They know we know. They know we know they know.

How does natural immunity stand up for the massive amount of double vaxxed getting a PCR +? Whatever that means, or PCR + with symptoms at least. Does the acquired immunity effect still result in the kind of outcomes detailed in the Qatar study?

This is why all the restrictions are meaningless. This new variant has been around for quite a while, and we’re only finding it because we’re specifically looking for it.

It’s like when you get a spate of dog attack stories in the press. There aren’t any more dog attacks than normal, it’s just the press looking for more after the first one happens giving a false impression they’re increasing.

I still say that if we had no way to test for this virus we wouldn’t be panicking as we’d just think it was a bad flu/cold and carry on as normal. It’s the testing of asymptomatic people and calling them ‘cases’ which drives this.

Variant my ass. So far we have had original covid and at least 2 or 3 more around the world up to this omnicon variant. Influenza has a single variant every year, or at least that’s what we’ve all been led to believe, as they dispense a single conventional vaccine for it annually.

Asymptomatic illness is a myth concocted to induce panic. Nothing on the planet can resist contraction of a virus, it’s what the body does with it that affects the critical element, transmission.

If immune systems are healthy, as with children in this ‘crisis’, the body deals with the virus internally and early. Thats why in the early days there were no recorded cases of children passing the virus on, their immune systems stopped it in its tracks. They were not asymptomatic transmitters, they were nature’s first line of defence.

The safest place to be was in a classroom but the teachers unions decided teachers needed time off so perpetuated the myth about asymptomatic carriers.

Adults are more likely to suffer symptoms, at which point they invoke natures time honoured means of self isolation, taking to bed.

The most bizarre thing I have witnessed so far is my neighbour catching covid early on. She was rough for a couple of weeks but was nursed back to health by her husband and two grown daughters. All self isolated in the house. All have underlying health issues including epilepsy and asthma but the husband and the daughters suffered no ill effects whatsoever.

When the clotshots were announced the whole family trotted off to their nearest centre and took the jabs. That’s how mind blowingly brainwashed society is.

It’s encouraging to see that even on the BBC there are now a good few sensible comments with lots of upvotes – perhaps the tide is at last beginning to turn?

Yes, I know that might be over-optimistic…

DR SUCHARIT BHAKDI – THE VACCINES WERE DESIGNED TO FAIL (Nov. 25th 2021)

Dr Bhaki states their is no basis whatsoever for intramascular vaccination and every attempt is doomed to fail. Medical microbiologist and physician, Sucharit Bhakdi, explains a simple immunological principle that explains why the MRNA jabs for ‘Covid-19’ can’t prevent infection and instead damage organs.

Alpha placed a question mark over efficacy, Beta barely registered. Delta smashed it to pieces. Omicron, more of a middle finger I think than a question mark.

It is interesting. The portrayal of two groups at war with each other is spot on, and also the “if we go down this route, what next” issue, but I think he gets the characteristics of the two groups wrong. Best I can tell, he sees the pro- group as broadly rational, and the anti- group as more spiritual. As I see it, the pro- group is the more religious, faith based, and the anti- are the rationalists.

it is about time that government addressed natural immunity in their vaccination plan, and it is also about time they were taken to court for failing to do so. By not testing – via a T-SPOT or other t cell test – they may be forcing the “vaccine” on people who do not need it, at all. As is demonstrated by the above actual science. If you are an immune careworker, the government is forcing you to take a treatment you do not need with an appreciable risk of doing you harm. On what planet can that be legal?

As care and health workers were at work during 2020, and a significant proportion of infections were nosocomial then logic would suggest that those workers were exposed to the virus and probably infected. Therefore they would have immunity built up.

Italy Holds ‘March of the Vaccine Dead’ To Remember Those Killed By The COVID-19 Vaccine
Last weekend, a group numbering in the hundreds staged a mourning march in Parma, Italy to commemorate those who have died as a result of the COVID-19 vaccine. The marchers held up pictures of the dead as they moved in solemn procession through central Parma, chanting the names of those lost to the experimental vaccines.

Margarita Zikou: 48-Year-Old Aspiring Greek Politician ‘Dies Suddenly’ From Heart Problems Months After Praising COVID Vaccines

Those who use the argument, ‘I don’t want the Astrazeneca vaccine because I’m afraid of thrombosis as a side effect’, think for a second, the chances are only 4 in a million. But if you get struck with covid, (very likely), the chances of thrombosis are 160,000 to one million. Vaccines have always been the only solution to deadly diseases …
The best vaccine is the covid vaccine …
WE ARE VACCINATED ….” – Margarita Zikou

Updated full spike vaccines will NOT achieve what’s needed after poorly designed vaccination dosing regimens in the first round. If you’re coerced into more spike-only (but full spike) vaccines it’s immediately clear that new campaigns are (again) not about following science.

So the Moderna quote “He also said it would take months for drugs companies to update the vaccines” needs to be looked at in that context. Because of OAS (original antigenic sin) just updating the experimental vaccine for the new spike won’t work.

Former mine workers demonstrated outside Parliament House in Perth today.
The report says ‘hundreds’ so I translate that to mean a couple of thousand.

This is what happens when you deliberate set out and continue to scare people … I personally know of one person who should really see a doctor but is afraid that if they see a doctor and they refer them to hospital they will catch covid and die .

‘Biggest cancer catastrophe ever’ to hit NHS as up to 740,000 potential cases missed

I spent from September 2019 to February 2021 in and out of hospital for 4 major surgeries, the longest period of sustained stay was nearly a month.

I have not been jabbed, I have never worn a face covering, I don’t socially distance and I didn’t see one sign of a covid patient at any point in time. None of the numerous patients I spent time in the ward with caught covid.

During my final stay, in an Oxford hospital in February I had a four bed ward to myself for a week. I had almost personal Nursing care, the food was still shit though…..

This cancer situation, alone, is going to get much worse. People should be hammering down the doors of their GP’s surgeries and demanding attention from their surgeons.

Whilst under cover of the covid panic, our government is hollowing out the NHS. The only contact I’ve had with my GP in two years is three or four phone calls to sort out medication. This will never change back to the way it was. Personally I rather welcome not having to spend two hours visiting a surgery just to update a prescription but I’m generally healthy. There are many cases where a visit for a prescription gives doctors the opportunity to do a quick health check, blood pressure, blood tests etc. and observe the overall condition of a patient.

We are all going to be left self diagnosing symptoms with little help from the NHS. The organisation will be completely handed over to crisis management over the coming years as the backlog of patients builds up and staff losses are welcomed by our government. How better to cut the biggest cost to the NHS than by sacking 100,000 staff who refuse to take the clotshot.

Guess what? The only means of accessing quality health care will soon be through private health care. None of this is accidental, at best its opportunism. At worst, this is an accelerated program.

But who am I to comment? I’m just your common, or garden variety conspiracy theorist……….

Does nobody find it curious that T-cell tests are virtually impossible to obtain, are expensive when you can, but even if you could get one, wouldn’t count as “recovered” on a vaccine passport…?

Moderna boss Stephane Bancel has said he expects a “material drop” in the efficacy of his company’s vaccine against the new Omicron variant.

Can anyone quantify “Material drop” from and efficacy of less than 1% lol

There Are Now 365 Studies that Prove the Efficacy of Ivermectin and HCQ in Treating COVID-19. Any hospital administrator who mandated the shots to employees to comply with the government mandate for Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement and who refused to allow alternative treatments to be tried, doctors who pushed their patients to take the EUA drug without giving fully informed consent, anyone who forcefully administered the shot, the AMA, AAP, Boards of Health, CDC, FDA, NIH, WHO, scientists who participated in the development, Big Pharma (Pfizer, Moderna, J&J, Astra Zeneca, et.al.), anyone who pushed the sick into nursing homes resulting in deaths, all must be arrested, prosecuted, tried and if found guilty sentenced to prolonged imprisonment and fines or death for intentional homicide. COME ON! Vaccine efficacy is meaningless when these things aren’t vaccines. We as a species are only still here because of natural immunity. Drugs and vaccines haven’t been around for millennia. We will survive ( unless the not so great dictators deem most of us a drain on resources and engineer depopulation. Oh, hang on…).

This does: Covid Crusher: Mix one heaped teaspoon of Iodine table salt in a mug of warm clean water, cup a hand and sniff or snort the entire mugful up your nose, spitting out anything which comes down into your mouth. If sore, then you have a virus, so continue morning noon and night, or more often if you want, until the soreness goes away (2-3 minutes) then blow out your nose and flush away, washing your hands afterwards, until when you do my simple cure, you don’t have any soreness at all, when you flush – job done. Also swallow a couple of mouthfuls of salt water and if you have burning in your lungs, salt killing virus and pneumonia there too.

My simple salt water cure, kills all Coronaviruses and viruses, as soon as you think you have an infection, or while self isolating, before the viruses mutate into the disease in your head and body, for which there is no cure.

I have been doing this simple cure for over 27 years and I am and others never sick from viruses and there is no reason why any of you should be either – when your only alternative are those vaccines!!

Richard
