Bridge to Nowhere

by Will Jones
13 April 2021 8:46 PM

There follows a guest post by Professor Roger Watson and Dr Niall McCrae.

Suicide is always a tragic event and information is not easy to obtain. This is for good reason, to prevent ‘hot spots’ being advertised and to reduce copycat events. Nevertheless, any landmark with altitude attracts suicide attempts and very few survivals. Sadly, the Humber Bridge is one such spot and only the most notable are reported such as double suicides, for example, and attempted double suicides involving a mother and child.

Since the Humber Bridge opened in 1981 there have been over 200 suicides, which approximates to just below five annually. Merely five persons survived the fall. In the most recent complete annual figures we can find, from a 2019 study of suicides in Hull, three were attributed to jumping from the structure dubbed “the bridge to nowhere”. But the toll appears to have risen sharply under the COVID-19 regime.

In the last month alone there were six deaths from suicide on the Humber Bridge, many of them young people. This has prompted the closure of the footpaths and cycling commuters from Lincolnshire into East Yorkshire have to make special arrangements to cross the bridge to and from work. In none of the reports do we see any specific mention of the impact of lockdown; this is hardly surprising as the local newspapers have tended, like the mainstream media, to be “on message” regarding the need for COVID-19 restrictions. Were he still alive, we would be minded to consult Philip Larkin on this human calamity, and its callous cause.

Doesn’t matter, it’s all climate change remember – they definitely tried to blame the Boston freeze on global boiling at the time, I remember clearly. That’s the beauty of climate change vs global warming.

They could just as easily flip to “the planet is freezing” and implement exactly the same measures with exactly the same level of support.

‘……the era of global boiling has arrived.”

Excellent news…..makes it very easy for you to ‘awa’ an bile yer heid’, Mr Guteres

‘We find, . . . that the effect of man-made CO2 emissions does not appear to be strong enough to cause systematic changes in the temperature fluctuations during the last 200 years.’

John Dagsvik and Sigmund Moen, Statistics Norway, September 2023

“To what extent are temperature levels changing due to greenhouse gas emissions?”

‘….if you plot recent temperature increases against increases in CO2 in the atmosphere, it’s the temperature increases that come first, and the CO2 increases follow. Thus, if there is causality, it must be that the temperature increase is causing the CO2 increase, rather than the other way around.’

https://www.itia.ntua.gr/en/docinfo/2194/

‘(Both papers) are using the only available data, which is data emanating from government sources that have been tampered with and altered. However, the important point is that even that data would appear to refute, and certainly does not prove, the endlessly repeated claims of impending climate doom from human CO2 emissions.’

Francis Menton 26 Oct 2023

The weather does not equal climate. Extreme whether has and always will occur. Climate and climate change are trends seen over decades.

You forgot to mention that this is asymmetric: If the weather happens to be to the liking of the climate changers, it always matters a lot, cf record high temperatures next to the runways of RAF airbases, just not in case it isn’t.

I didn’t forget. But you are correct- the extreme weather is used to scare people when it is a bit hot or violent.

Climate change is integral to living on planet earth and for too many factors to mention.

That’s it.

As always, if the weather happens to look like global boiling is actually happening, it has been caused by it, and if it doesn’t, that’s because global boiling will get much worse in future. These people are right when they’re right and when they’re wrong, they’re also right, just in a different way.

This is a tell-tale mark of a free-running political agenda, by the way. Whatever happens, the reaction of the guy with a chip on his shoulder is always “Ascend soapbox, preach about how whatever shows that he has always been right about everything.”

I wonder how stupid the boiling advocates will look when the grand solar minimum comes along over the next 20-30 years?

I hope that they have their budgie smugglers ready for the really cold days.

I didn’t take any actual readings, but no one’s convincing me that April, May, June, July and August were not – with the exception of maybe two very warm days (eg June 25th?) and three or four quite warm days – the coldest ever experienced in this country. I live in Norfolk, and never have I seen people in August and September wearing what appear to be winter clothes. The absurdity of the warmist position is…absurd.

The anthropogenic climate change industry is very lucrative and they will keep producing reports backing their ideology to maintain their jobs and power.
