Boris Has Shown True Leadership by Refusing to Impose More Restrictions

2 min read

I’ve written a comment piece for Mail+, praising the Prime Minister for refusing to give in to the gloomsters and doomsters. Here is an extract:

I think he’s been muddling through as best he can, driven by a combination of Machiavellian calculation and a sense of what’s in the public interest, like most national leaders.

At the beginning of the pandemic, that meant school closures, shuttered businesses and stay-at-home orders. But 21 months later, in the midst of a fifth wave, the political and economic calculus has changed.

To begin with, we now have a keener sense of the cost of lockdowns. I’m not just talking about the economic toll – £400 billion and climbing, as well as the collapse of thousands of shops, pubs and restaurants – but the social impact, particularly on the most vulnerable. Tens of thousands of cancer patients may die unnecessarily as a result of delayed treatment, the country is facing an unprecedented mental health crisis and education experts tell us it will take two years for children to catch up on the schooling they’ve missed.

Just as importantly, it has become clear that the non-pharmaceutical interventions favoured by governments around the world only have a modest effect on the life cycle of each viral outbreak, if any. The various waves triggered by new variants seem to rise and fall according to the same pattern, regardless of the severity of the restrictions imposed. They are self-limiting and eventually burn out of their own accord.

The starkest illustration of this fact is Sweden, which didn’t impose any lockdowns in 2020 and experienced an excess death rate below the European average. But it’s also true of US states such as Florida and Texas, where Republican governors resisted calls to follow the lead of Democratic governors in states such as California and New York, with their draconian shutdowns.

If you throw in the mass vaccination programmes, as well as the fact that Omicron appears to be milder than previous variants, the cost-benefit analysis has fundamentally changed.

Needless to say, most political leaders have doggedly stuck to the original playbook, responding to this wave as they have to every other, including Nicola Sturgeon in Scotland, Mark Drakeford in Wales and Paul Givan in Northern Ireland.

That has made it particularly difficult for Boris to resist the huge pressure he’s been under from his scientific advisers and their outriders in the media to impose another raft of restrictions.

But resist he has.

Worth reading in full.

Stop Press: Patrick O’Brien in the Spectator thinks Boris’s decision not to impose any more restrictions could be the start of a comeback in the polls in 2022.

“Needless to say, most political leaders have doggedly stuck to the original playbook, responding to this wave as they have to every other, including Nicola Sturgeon in Scotland, Mark Drakeford in Wales and Paul Givan in Northern Ireland.”

To be fair to Paul Givan, Northern Ireland’s First Minister, he and his party voted AGAINST further restrictions in the NI Assembly.

Howver, as Northern Ireland is governed by a cross-party executive, the other parties voted through tougher measures sadly.

Is Toby Young still hoping for a seat in the Lords or does he just have amnesia?

I don’t consider that his decision is, in any way, related to true leadership. In my mind, it’s similar to certain Nazis hoping to make a peace deal with the Allies at the end of WW2.

They were terrified of what retribution would be meted out to them and Johnson has now realised that the game is up and that he and his criminal cabal will soon face ultimate justice.

Headline: ‘Boris Has Shown True Leadership by Refusing to Impose More Restrictions‘

Byline: Toby Young

Extract: Bland to the point of vapid attempt at extenuation.

‘Worth reading in full’?

Don’t make me laugh.

Sorry, but for me this is evidence that Toby’s completely lost the plot.

I think you have seriously fucked up, Toby, with this piece. To bite at Boris’ ankles, even his testicles, for 22 months and then suggest that he has muddling through as best he can is as big a U-turn as the many you have suggested he has made over that period.

The comments here would seem to suggest that you take the earliest opportunity to take a leaf out of Boris’ book and try to find a way of doing a U-turn yourself lest you find a decline in the Daily Skeptic’s readership.

”… refusing to impose more restrictions….”?

What? Have people forgotten that he and his ilk are supposed to be our servants, for crying out loud?

No. He’s in arse-saving mode. The tide is turning, true leadership would have been to scrap all restrictions.

The blonde buffoon is being pegged down by his back benchers and is simply trying to balance his political career with his order’s.

The plan of course will go ahead, he just needs to pretend it’s all based on ‘science’. The question is, what scare story is being dreamt up to convince the back benchers to back off. If he presses ahead based on current ‘data’ I suspect a leadership’s challenge will kick off and another puppet installed complete the job.

There has to be a reason that Toby continually bigs up Johnson and keeps writing puff pieces in praise of him. Most people now realise Johnson is a serial liar, bluffer, coward and has no mind of his own. Surely Toby knows this too?

Why then, does Toby keep blowing smoke up Johnson’s arse?

Agree with a lot of the comments. It is indeed laughable. Johnson is not a leader he is there for a reason to try and implement the next stages. If anyone knows Max Hastings well his piece on Johnson back to Brexit referendum will know what I mean. I will never forget what Max Hastings said. I fear for the people of this country.

“Muddling through” because he failed/refused to listen to the GENUINE EXPERTS like Sunetra Gupta, and failed/refused to carry out a cost/benefit analysis of the destructive Lockdown Policy he accepted and then enthusiastically implemented.

I give him no credit now. Any credit due goes to Steve Baker and the 99 Rebels; Lord Frost and the tens of thousands who voted against Johnson in Shropshire.

It’s not leadership. Johnson is not a leader he is a follower. He has no original ideas of principles.

Anyone else see the massive posters along the m25 over bridges? A photo of Boris with a clown hat on his head, a clown nose and in very big letters it says “Boris Lies”. Everyone seems to know.

now why would anyone think Boris makesthe decisions about covid mandates. Honestly, that is laughable.

Johnson is just doing his best to save his own political career by appearing to care for ‘his’ people ( the electorate). Seemingly ignoring the likes of SAGE, he is trying to appear to be his own man, with an ear to the ground of public opinion. ( = he knows he’s on borrowed time as P.M. unless he wins the sheeple around).

It’s tempting to be grateful for Bojo here, compared with full-on Communist tyrants like they have in Wales, Scotland and New Zealand, but this is very misplaced for two reasons.

  1. Bojo will impose lockdowns in the New Year
  2. Bojo has committed crimes against humanity with his lockdowns end experimental cell therapy policies and must stand trial in The Hague. No amount of back-pedalling can ever change this.

No he hasn’t, he just can’t get away with it right now. But there is still the relentless push for more restrictions.

And lets not forget, while we have been distracted by covid this POS has been happily pushing through legislation to take away the right to protest, and exempt government agents from the rule of law on the whim of a bureaucrat. This man is tyrant in the making.

This is no more than cat and mouse, or good cop / bad cop.

The agenda to be delivered in England is the same as that being delivered everywhere else. (Australia and New Zealand appear to be the vanguard, at the moment.)

We have our national psychology. The original plan, for England, allowed for it, but some necessary adjustments are, I think, being made during the implementation. Scotland and Wales could be hit harder, because of the national pride that would be whipped up by appearing to “fight the virus” more efficiently than the English regime was doing.

The majority of our countrymen will be worn down, and brought to submission. Those of us who resist will be crushed, once the totalitarian regime is sufficiently established. There is no hope of surviving as a parallel society within Oceania / Airstrip One. The only parallel society will be for the elite (senior members of the Party), just as it is now.

Our one hope is to separate, while this might still be possible: https://ourdecisiontoo.com/Issue/there-s-nothing-left-to-do-but-go-our-separate-ways/320/

This one in 20,000 to 30,000 risk of death from taking these experimental “vaccines” – is this per dose, or is it the same risk however many you have, or does it go from one in 20,000 to one in 10,000 etc. for a second dose, or does the risk increase with each dose, but less than a doubling of the total risk for a doubling of the doses? It occurs to me that if the risk is one in 20,000 per shot, your total risk of death at the French rate (one dose/3 months) would, after ten years, be something like one in 500 – quite a serious cause of concern, especially for young people at low risk who haven’t the slightest chance of dying from a virus.

Last time I checked the Yellow Card scheme, 1 in 27189 people vaccinated in the UK had died shortly after a vaccine, but obviously some of those people would have been having their second or third vaccine.

According to the most recent data, 1 in 65,494 doses resulted in a reported death shortly afterwards.

  1. The inflammation they produce in tissue gets worse with each shot.
  2. Research is starting to show they dysregulate innate immune function, including inhibiting important proteins that fight pathogens and cancer cells.
  3. No one knows the medium or long-term adverse effects.

So, if you survive the clots and heart attacks, you have that to think about.

im sorry Toby this is too sycophantic for words. Im pretty sure you’re doing it because you think the tide has turned in favour of living with covid, and I feel you’re right in England anyway, so it’s time to give BoJo some support. But that leadership didn’t elude Ron De Santis more than 12 months ago when he said “no more” last September.

Agreed. It’s very important that Boris Johnson and everyone else who committed these crimes are held to account. They do not get to walk away from this.

If Johnson had even a grain of courage he would do the next sensible thing and reverse the insanity that are the NHS vaccine mandates … this NHS GP (who will lose her job even though she treated thousands of patients throughout the height of covid19 pandemic without any vaccines available and even caught the virus herself and now has natural immunity) speaks out …

He’s imposed State Freedom Permits/Identity Papers/vaccine passes on the population.
He’s imposed masks, with no indication their imposition will ever be withdrawn.
The only reason he’s gone no further is because there’s no further he needs to go. He’s destroyed England, the home of freedom. He’s done his job.
