Postcard From Slovenia

by Toby Young
30 September 2021 1:51 PM

We’re publishing a new postcard today, this one by Russell David about a recent trip to Ljubljana in Slovenia. Bit of a mixed bag – mask mandates are pretty ubiquitous – but probably better than a week in Skegness. Here is an extract:

Getting a flight can often be stressful; in Covid times multiply that by 10. I awoke (after bad dreams) two hours before my alarm on the day of my flight and was unable to get back to sleep, a million things going through my mind, a million things that could go wrong on the trip. It starts long before the actual day of the flight, as you take your test and send it off and hope it gets there in time… and that it’s negative… and that the result reaches you in time. I scored the hat-trick, so there was just the long drive to Gatwick on my mind, and then the hope that I’d remembered all my documents – the proof of double-jabbing, the To Whom It May Concern letter from my doctor saying I was medically exempt from wearing a mask (subsequently checked twice on the way out, not at all on the return), the Randox details I’d need to fill in a Passenger Locator Form (subsequently never checked), plus all the usual stuff.

Shortly before my easyJet flight to Ljubljana was airborne there was an announcement to the effect that there would be no peanut products served because one passenger had a nut allergy – which seemed like a neat summation of the rampant culture of safetyism we now live under, the culture that gave us the lockdowns. And in-flight announcements now have the Covid versions of airlines’ extreme paranoia (“In the event of landing on water…” etc), so you get warnings about not moving around the cabin unnecessarily and stressing the importance of us all always wearing our mask, though you can remove it for a “short period” while eating or drinking.

Worth reading in full.

Sod that.

Mind you, being unjabbed, it’s academic anyway – we’re not going anywhere.

You are right but it still angers me greatly that we have been pushed down this road.

I couldn’t bear and I couldn’t be bothered with the absurdity of all this. I’d choose Skegness!

Skeggy for me, any time. Pure, bracing coastal air and no reek of bullshit.

This guy has a great accent and here’s why “Celente was born in an Italian American family in The Bronx, New York City, New York.”

As we all know, it was the Italians who made America Great.

Once again, almost every bit of the trip sounds horrendous. There is no question masks are here to stay in many countries and there will no doubt be further pushes to get the same level of compliance here in the UK.

I agree.

I’ve never been much of a one for organised holidays anyway – it’s all a load of hassle. Certainly won’t be bothering while this shitshow continues.

No there won’t. The zombies are all grovelling compliant here already, makes no difference. We humans have friends in high places. I’m staying here. Abroad is unutterably bloody and all foreigners are disgusting maskoids.

“probably better than a week in Skegness” I’ve not been to Skegness but am thinking of going. I’m sure it has good points and bad points. The main thing though is that I can go to Skegness without participating in covid safety theatre and without supporting the testing regime which is one of the foundations of the Big Lie. So no, it’s not better than a week in Skegness, IMO.

Indeed. I’ve been to North Yorkshire in the last couple of months, and in Whitby, it certainly wasn’t the case that “Masks are as common as feet”. Quite the reverse – it was one of the few heartening times in this whole shit-show to see the widespread abandoning of face-knickers.

And yes – that trail of subservient testing and presenting papers and compliance to jackboots can be avoided if staying at home. To an extent.

Not that I’m over-sanguine. Most of us have seen the autumn/winter infection rise being lined up for another fake crisis, whilst the virus and the regulations go in opposite directions of severity with the clear intention to use it as an excuse for a sale pitch for useless ‘vaccines’ via a ‘passport’.

Totally agree, give me Skegness anytime, as long as we have the Covid hoax shit show. Being double jabbed and participating in the invasive testing farce just to go to masked up Slovenia, no thanks the writer and Toby can stick that.

Still bad times are certainly on the way and the Gates controlled UK government will throw all manner of restrictions at this this winter. We have already had a tiny foretaste of what’s coming in the way of engineered shortages and far more seriously there will be a pandemic of the “vaccinated”, though of course, they will call it something else.

Indeed I’m not over-sanguine either, but try not to think about the future too much.

Just found the comment about Skegness a bit cheap, tbh. I appreciate people like to go abroad, and some have family etc, or work reasons, but I think as far as possible one ought to comply as little as possible with the nonsense and I can do without going abroad for now.

Skegness is a dump, but there are plenty of decent places to go in England.

I refuse to go into Wales or Scotland at the moment because of the muzzle mandates there.

Cime to Gulag Wales and help us defy the muzzle gestapo. They aren’t all that bothersome, particularly as you can now take your face into any hospitality venue, though covvie will get you if you take your face into a shop.

Well yes indeed, for those who don’t like Skegness there are alternatives in England.

Fond memories of Skeggy. I thought I’d hate it when I went the first time, but fell in love with the place. They have a lovely seal sanctuary there if that’s your thing.

Where I live in Wales, on the Shropshire border, it’s full of English tourists happily ignoring the bemuzzlement ‘mandate’. The local campsite’s still full despite the weather. Nobody cares if you don’t wear a mask here.

One thing that struck me today – I’ve not seen a discarded mask for a long, long time. That says a lot methinks.

“probably better than a week in Skegness”

Not sure it’s even better than a week in prison where you will not attempt to delude yourself that you are having fun, and where even most of the rules make some kind of sense!

A few days in Ljubljana was a highlight of a holiday a few years back but on this effort yes I will take Skeggy any time over this. I would spend the whole time fulminating and frothing over the stupidity..

Yes, I can’t even go to the local supermarket, never mind Ljubljana, without seething, not always that quietly at the masked up clowns.

I find trains are worst at the moment – some train companies still have very regular annoucnements telling you to wear a muzzle out of ‘respect’ (worded to almost-imply that it’s still a requiremnt), and there are loads of muzzled zombies still, giving dirty looks to anyone not wearing a face nappy.

he questioned why I’d go to a country that had only vaccinated around 64% of its population, compared to 95% in the U.K.

it’s incredible how quickly we can convince the entire world of something that 2 years ago they would have said was complete bullshit.
When you got one of those actual working vaccines for yellow fever or whatever you knew it meant you wouldn’t be getting yellow fever no matter how many of the locals were lying dead in the street from it.

The default response from a large proportion of the vaxxed when they get Covid and are ill in bed for a week is ‘just think how bad it would have been otherwise’ – when really for someone in their demographic it would normally be expected to be a lot milder than what they experienced.

But it is of course impossible to get them to believe this.

It’s such a shame, the future of travel seems completely lost to me, I was learning to sail and hoping to retire as a cruiser of the planet. Having only had 1 foreign holiday ‘holiday’ and 2 small city breaks as an adult, I had some catching up to do, seems I’d better get acquainted with the English weather and campsites.

Oh please.

Both of my children have nut allergies for which they have to carry epipens and have had to go to A&E on more than one occasion.

You cannot equate this genuine risk to people’s lives with for example requiring people to wear masks or show evidence of vaccination against a rather humdrum virus.

Having to forego peanuts on a short flight is hardly curtailment of civil liberties.

In that case they should take care of what they eat. Why should the 99.999% of us be inconvenienced? Who is being selfish?

Where is the empirical evidence that someone eating nuts can impact on another person who is allergic to nuts?

What a massive bore this sounds. And this bloke PAID MONEY for the experience? Ljubljana was ‘safe’, eh? Sounded like he revelled in his double-jabbed, endless test taking state.

I’d be more interested in how he managed to wangle a letter from a UK doctor to be exempt from masking up on the flight. Not that I have any intention of flying anywhere at the moment.

Your Passenger Locator Form does not need to be physically checked. It’s logged on your passport when you go through the electronic gate.

That sounds like absolute hell!
As much as I miss travelling, there’s no way I’ll be going abroad until this shitshow is all over.
Drop the testing, drop the masks and let’s get back to bloody normal!
