The Health Secretary says vaccine passport checks could be imposed on pubs if “something happens that means that we have to take further measures” but continues to dodge the question of what exactly “something” means. The Times has the story.
The Government will refuse to set a specific threshold when action is to be taken but ministers are understood to be considering publishing a list of indicators.
Javid said that such measures were being monitored “on a daily basis”, with the NHS and the Joint Biosecurity Centre involved. He told the BBC that “there won’t be any single trigger”. He added: “There are a number of measures we are going to keep under close watch with our friends in the NHS. That of course includes hospitalisations, it includes the pressure on A&E, on the ambulance services, staffing levels.”
Javid refused to rule out compulsory certification for everyday life, alarming many Tory backbenchers who have branded the Government’s plan “a slippery slope towards more restrictions”.
Ministers believe that as a last resort vaccine passports are preferable to lockdown measures and could be a way to keep open hospitality businesses.
Javid told the radio station LBC that he didn’t think the country would need vaccine passports to go to the pub. He added a caveat, however: “Unless… something happens that means that we have to take further measures.”
He said that contingency plans “may well include vaccine passports as a reserve measure”. He cited a new variant that was more infectious or vaccine resistant, saying “in that situation, we have to be ready to take further action”. …
On Tuesday Johnson said that he had “never been in favour of vaccine passports for pubs” but that they might have been a “game changer” last year.
“It’s just not sensible to rule out completely this kind of option now when we must face the fact that it might still make the difference between keeping business open at full capacity or not,” he told a Downing Street press conference.
“If you think a year ago, where we were last September, can you imagine if we’d had then . . . if we’d had Covid certification?
“We would have been able, with that tool, to keep open businesses that had been forced to close and were going through an absolutely wretched time. They would’ve been a game changer, a lifesaver, last year. So I think they’re an important part of our repertoire.”

There’s a lot of ‘mights’ and ‘mays’ in what Javid says, which means that ‘probably not’ is by far the more likely. Why can’t they understand that?
‘Here you are, no you can’t have it, here you….’ up-the-garden-path tease (from Mar 20 to Mar 22) and ‘project fear’ are tricks of the immature.
The more attention you give them, the worse they get. I don’t squander my attention on the badly behaved. I reserve it for the well behaved; they earn it. Time is not only money, it’s life.
There’ve been no real pubs open since Mar 20, only pseudo. If no one went, they’d have to stop kow-towing to ‘nanny’ and we’d get our real pubs back, but too few have hung onto their self-respect. ‘Nanny’ et al are guilty of being a public heath menace. Not us. We are innocent.
Silkie Carlo and her team at Big Brother Watch UK warn that passes are linked to facial recognition, to police, to agencies beyond UK shores where data is under different laws
Digital ID + digital currency = THE TRAP! Use cash, refuse ID.
Since they’re following “the science” I hope someone reminded him about the necessity of eating eating a Scotch Egg ….. to ward off the virus particles?
I guess that must be somewhere on their list of “effective measures.” Somewhere before crawling on the floor to avoid the virus particles in the air.
It seems to me that, Johnson was very clear about what he said last week about scrapping restrictions from the Coronavirus Act and Javid made a very clear statement that vaccine passports would not be introduced. Entrance stage left, Witless and Unbalanced, and, once again, Johnson caves into them. We are at the end of all this as Robert Dingwall said, Johnson should have called time on the ‘pandemic’ some time ago. We were going in a positive direction then these two put their heavy handed oar in. They seem to be desperate to subjugate the British people and ensure they live thoroughly miserable lives as a result of their corrupt science. Let’s not forget the pair bounced us into Lockdown 1 with falsified, crass, ‘modelling’ the figures of which never even came close to materialising. They bounced us into Lockdown 2 on the basis of clearly falsified statistics which were found to be so within the hour of their publishing them. They bounced us into Lockdown 3 with equally falsified modelling and statistics, again, proven to be so. The only things MPs can do now is to vote out the Coronovirus Bill which is this week I think. I… Read more »
From the Graun:
THE VACCINE DOESN’T DO SHIT!
It does do shit – it increases infection. This is pretty much indisputable now – go to data for any country that has had a high level of vaccine rollouts – particularly those where it wasn’t already endemic – and track the vaccine taken up against infections. Correlation time and time and time again. The vaccine is worse than useless – it is a medical disaster.
Yes, I wholeheartedly agree, and stand corrected. It’s clear that the vaccine is driving this ‘pandemic’ now, as evidenced by the multitude of countries with low vaccination rates vs those with high. Why no one seems to be able to see this is absolutely beyond me. As with the lockdowns, it’s just another sunk cost fallacy writ large.
I actually caught a bad case of covid a few weeks ago (confirmed via PCR test). It wasn’t a pleasant experience, and it’s not one I’d wish to repeat, and lasted two weeks. But I survived it – no thanks to the NHS whose total advice consisted of ‘drink water, and take paracetamol’, despite some horrendous symtoms including fever and cold sweats.
The thing is, I survived, despite not being vaccinated (I’m in my fifties), and now I must have antibodies. I have no need now to get a vaccine, but the government takes no account of natural immunity from covid exposure, which is many times more effective than vaccine induced immunity.
This is another reason why vaccine passports make no sense, as only those ‘jabbed’ are considered safe, discounting all those with natural immunity.
Natural immunity which is 27 times more reliable than the jab!!!!
But natural immunity doesn’t exist, and that’s official. Not true ‘but official.
If a new variant was vaccine resistant what in the name of all that is holy would be the fucking point of a vaccine passport?
The Delta variant is vaccine resistant.
What’s more, I bet that the mitigating effects claimed for the quacksines (if they exist at all) are actually due to the Delta variant being intrinsically less ‘deadly’.
I think they would reply that more unvaxed are being hospitalised etc. My question is whether their vaccination status means they are more likely to be hospitalised and, once hospitalised, treated with the death sentence of intubation.
And even that is questionable, following the recent PHE stats that show a higher rate of hospitalisation in the vaxxed than unvaxxed for most age groups. There’s some uncertainty in those numbers because they are relying on NHS registers to calculate the total number of unvaxxed (calculated as total population minus vaxxed) and the ONS estimates of the UK population are lower, which would increase the rate of hospitalisation for the unvaxxed. On the other hand it’s likely that there are UK residents who are not registered with the NHS, which would push the numbers the other way.
Let me see. 69.7% of “Covid” deaths in August to September among the “double-vaccinated”. Less than 80% of the (known) adult population (average) “double-vaccinate” over this period. Plus questions about how they measure it (eg people counted as “unvaccinated” within 14 days of having the “vaccine”).
I think you could be on to something…
Our friends in the NHS?
Human beings have no friends in the NHS.
Ministers believe that as a last resort vaccine passports are preferable to lockdown measures
The only correlation between the two is that they are both doing nothing positive medically.
When a country has ministers who believe and spout such a fact free statement, it is in deep trouble.
When it has ministers who don’t believe them but spout them and lie about it regardless, it is in arguably even more trouble.
They will 100% bring it in as a way to avoid another lockdown. The price for not having a lockdown will be accepting passports on a temporary basis. They’ll spin it so that vaccine passports are in essence about keeping the unvaccinated safe and away from infection. They may use spot checks to enforce this rather than checking everyones details. This will be enough to deter the unvaccinated from going out.
Whitty stated the other day that the right to personal choice is an important part of medical ethics. So its obvious passports are unethical.
Not sure that they’ll spin it this way, as that would imply that they are pretending to care about the unvaccinated. They generally try to make it clear that they regard us as scum, so the spinning is more likely to be along the lines of them protecting the vaxxed by keeping us filthy unvaxxed away from them. The media will of course not ask the very obvious question of ‘if the vaccines work, why is that needed’.
What a bunch of snivelling liars.
Javid claims that if a new vaccine resistant strain comes along they may need to implement vaccine passes. Huh? So if a strain breaks through to vaccinated people then we need vaccine passports so, what, we know who is prone to being infected?
Then Boris with the insane logic that if we had had vaccine passports last year (when there was no fake vaccine, then we could have kept businesses open that HIS government closed?
The fucking mad hatter and the mad queen all rolled into one terrifying governing class.
They need to be locked up.
I was under the impression that the Delta variant was vaccine resistant.
When does it become ok to execute them?
Time for four division apartheid. Which one are you?
Div 1. 2 jabs + booster
Div 2. 2 jabs
Div 3. 1 jab
Div 4. No jab
I will continue to languish in division four.
I think ‘No jab’ will probably count as ‘non-league’!
“No jab” is more like the proposed euro super league… everyone calling the members a bunch of selfish arseholes but long term everyone is going to want to be in it.
So will I. Except that I am not ‘languishing’ in it; I rejoice in it.
You forgot the elite group:
Div 0. Two jabs + booster (all saline).
Lots of new TV adverts promoting cremation services. Do they know something we don’t? A bad winter ahead perhaps?!
There has been a lot of discussion on the stupidity/’cock-up’ or conspiracy origins of the shit-show.
What, however is certain is that any member of the electorate now falling for this particular part of the scam is irremediably stupid. No excuses now.
Of course if anybody asks me if I’ve been “vaccinated” I say “no and neither have you”.
Pants firmly ablaze there, Sajid…how very Gove of you.
SO, initially I brushed this off given I don’t follow any celebrities nor what they say on platforms such as twitter and instagram. But has anyone realized what repercussions this whole Nikki Minaj thing is going to have? She has 157M followers. I was just shown a live recording from her describing the situation in Trinidad
More coercive controlling psych ops. Stay resolute, stay strong, stay unvaccinated!!!
If SAGE or PHE says it will happen, then it’s done. The government, in the loosest sense of the word, simply implements the health body directive. Our politicians and PM are so shit that I don’t think for one minute they have the mental capacity and intelligence to do this independently. They’re being led, whether they like it or not
I know that Tory boys (and they’re mainly boys) are not of the brightest – by definition. But I can’t believe that they are just unwitting victims.
I honestly believe they’re so inept, they can be led anywhere, especially when the intellect of those leading them is infinitely higher, despite their shit reasoning and motives with SAGE and PHE
He said that contingency plans “may well include vaccine passports as a reserve measure”. He cited a new variant that was more infectious or vaccine resistant, saying “in that situation, we have to be ready to take further action”. …
Yes, vaccine passports make perfect sense as a measure against a vaccine resistant variant!
The businesses weren’t forced to close because of the virus – they were forced to close because of government policy. Not the same thing at all. What would have happened if they’d been allowed to stay open, in terms of infection numbers? probably pretty much what happened with them closed – as proven by stats from around the world showing a complete lack of correlation between government bullying measures and case numbers.
And the same of course applies to the Vaxxports. They know perfectly well that the spiked can still spread it, but hospitality venuies are not a major source of transmission anyway, so imposing restrictions on them will make no difference – other than possibly pushing a few more into banruptcy.
Microsoft announced today that they want to make entering passwords history – because they are so hard to remember.
Instead they will gladly accept your biometric data (unlike a password, once stolen, you are fucked for life), or a special one-time token issued through their Authenticator mobile app.
The main innovation is (as with the whole Software as a Service concept) that neither you – nor the software you own – are the one who decides whether or not you can log in – rather, it’s Microsoft. These schemes will also be supported by hardware chips known as Trusted Computing Platform, built in all new motherboards, and without which Windows 11 will presumably not work.
Just to add another piece to the bigger trend of “from now on, we control your permissions, not you”.
Trusted Platform Module (TPM) – they’ve been around for years and are used by various security processes. Microsoft’s hard drive encryption system has used them for a long time, going back several versions of Windows.
With SaaS you don’t own the software – that is the point – you are merely paying a monthly fee and if Microsoft (or whoever the supplier is) does something which fucks up your processes, that’s just tough shit. Unfortunately the dominant software players are pushing everyone in this direction though. And the whole ‘working from home’ thing over the past 18 months has been a massive boon to them in being able to push this change much harder.
Yep, the point of TPM is to allow a sort of digital rights management which cannot be circumvented by software or end user.
One example is allowing you to open a file in an encrypted format with only a particular software that comes from Microsoft (or another so-called “trusted vendor”) and which has not been altered in any way.
Basically, your computer/software on it is no longer yours, it’s just a “platform” for executing someone else’s code, subject to their rules and permissions, subject to change at their whim. Kind of like a computer in a public library, except that you bought it and “own” it (but only theoretically, as you can see – what you really “own” is a temporary use permission controlled by a third party – technically very similar to the time-limited vaxx passport).
And correct, SaaS is the less covert version of the very same concept – becoming entirely dependent on a big external vendor, who can cut your access or give you the boot any time they please (e.g. see what happened to the Parler social media platform). The horrifying thing is that it is not only done to end users, it is sold to… Read more »
“Basically, your computer/software on it is no longer yours …”
This has been emerging for a long time. Some implementations are just inconvenient, but others are legalized fraud. I bought a complete !:50000 OS map package a few years ago, with the possibility of buying in other scales of map on request . Completely satisfactory, and much used.
However, now they have a new subscription system (sold on the basis of totally unnecessary constant ‘updating’). The original facility has consequently been downgraded in terms of access – as if someone had come along and binned you paid-for paper maps.
In my experience this sort of scam is used more and more to undermine ‘ownership’ with a constant revenue flow. It’s a form of ‘ransom ware’, quite different from paying for updates.
Off topic but:
“The real flu season in the hospital was always more serious than COVID has been,” Snider said. “Flu season in a hospital is very challenging, and even the tamest flu season in years past was still worse than COVID has been so far. The people who have been suffering and sadly dying are clearly people who are hundreds of pounds overweight, and people with multiple other comorbidities like stage 4 cancer. I’m not a Doctor, but the response and panic to this virus is clearly wildly disproportionate to reality.”
https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2021/09/new-missouri-covid-whistleblower-hospitals-lying-public-covid-can-prove/
we should push for a ‘previous evidence of covid infection pass’ which allows you to access all of society’s amenities
you can self-certify a previous infection
proof will not be via a paper or app based certification but will be an oral declaration
to prevent people knowing your medical history access will be granted as follows
‘would you like to come in’
‘yes please’
That just encourages them. What we should be pushing for is no certification under any circumstances.
i doubt they are reading my shitpostings – it was just a joke 🙂
That is still complying. To get us to agree with Digital IDs they don’t care if we comply with Vaccine Passports, or pretend to, it achieves the same end.
It’s almost like they are trying everything possible to destroy an already fragile sector.
We’ve been trying to buy a freehold pub for the last 3 years. Finding one that is in anyway profitable is hard, finding a bank to lend even 40% of the price is almost impossible.
Government loans, furlough etc meant barely any came to the market in 2020. Since July this year a few have trickled on at reduced prices, along with a lot of nightclubs and wedding venues. If another Christmas is taken from them now the safety nets have gone I think we’ll be seeing a lot more for sale. And unless the banks start lending that’s exact where a lot of them will stay.
Taking on a pub (or any other hospitality business) at the moment would be a brave decision! Given the likelihood of repeated kickings from the government jackboot over this winter and quite probably beyond.
we must face the fact that it might still make the difference between keeping business open at full capacity or not,
If you think a year ago, where we were last September, can you imagine if we’d had then . . . if we’d had Covid certification?
“We would have been able, with that tool, to keep open businesses that had been forced to close and were going through an absolutely wretched time. They would’ve been a game changer, a lifesaver, last year. So I think they’re an important part of our repertoire.”
here’s my prediction, Gates’ vaccine passports, that everyone in government claims to not want – will be mandatory for everything except food by Christmas
as Javid said ‘its a fact…’ we wouldn’t have needed to lockdown if we had vax passports last year… its a proven scientific fact
Buffoons. How could we have had vaccine passports last year when there were no vaccines??? (Of course there still aren’t real vaccines).
The latest vaccine surveillance report now suggests that the vaccinated aged 40-80 are about 40% more likely to catch covid. This is up from about 30% more likely in last week’s report.
Note that the relationship between ‘relative likelihood of infection’ and case numbers is an exponential function, not a linear function; if the vaccinated are 40% more likely to catch covid and pass it on, then if the whole population was vaccinated you’d expect about 5x the case numbers compared with if no-one was vaccinated (all other things being equal).
Of course, we might have more hospitalisations/deaths if no-one was vaccinated — but the majority of hospitalisations/deaths are in the vulnerable — there will be a ‘sweet spot’ of vaccination level where hospitalisations/deaths would be suppressed but the case numbers weren’t significantly higher… but we’ve almost certainly vaccinated way beyond that point now.
Anyway, the most-recent data now suggests that if they want to control covid they should restrict the movements of the vaccinated, not the unvaccinated.
