“Look, we’ve gotten this far. Please protect yourself until you get to the finish line.” With these words, spoken in May, President Joe Biden instructed unvaccinated Americans to continue wearing face masks indoors but echoed advice from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that fully vaccinated Americans could ditch their coverings. On Twitter, he said: “The rule is now simple: get vaccinated or wear a mask until you do.”
It turns out the rule wasn’t as simple as he made out.
The CDC has told vaccinated Americans that they must put their face masks back on when indoors, less than three months after announcing that it was safe to remove them, citing fears over the Delta Covid variant. CDC Director Rochelle Walensky told reporters: “The Delta variant is showing every day its willingness to outsmart us and to be an opportunist in areas where we have not shown a fortified response against it.” The Washington Post has more.
On Tuesday… the CDC announced it had again changed its guidance on masks, recommending once more that all Americans wear masks indoors in public spaces. The game-changer for the agency was data showing that vaccinated people infected with the highly infectious delta variant carry the same viral load as unvaccinated people who are infected, the Washington Post reported.
Whiplash recommendations carry downsides. “Once you’ve let the genie out of the bottle, it’s really hard to put it back in,” said Lawrence Gostin, a Professor of Global Health Law at Georgetown University. Americans who have set aside their masks might not be persuaded to don them again.
Last year, the CDC was not alone in its scepticism. The World Health Organisation (WHO) did not publish global guidance supporting masks until June 5th, more than two months after the United States did. The lack of mask availability early in the pandemic made recommending them difficult.
The WHO currently advises all people, vaccinated or not, to continue wearing masks when around others.
WHO spokesman Tarik Jasarevic said Tuesday that the global health body advises governments to continue emphasising proven public health and social measures, including masks, “as long as there is community spread”.
There was community spread when the CDC issued its May 13th guidance. The United States that day recorded almost 50,000 new Covid cases. But vaccination rates were dipping. The message about masks appeared to be an attempt to incentivise the shots.
That gambit may have failed: the number of Covid vaccine doses given out this week across the United States is less than half of what it was the week of May 13th. Many unvaccinated Americans appear to have ditched their masks anyway. …
Reinstating mask rules that have been lifted can be difficult. Israel has struggled with mask compliance since June 25th [when the mask mandate was reimposed just 10 days after it was lifted].

STAGE ONE – Deliberate release of a pathogen worldwide, eliminating enough of those that cost society so much to care for, greatly reducing the burden on the state, while scaring the rest of the world.
STAGE TWO – Convince the entire world that their only savour will be a vaccine, which will save them from the sort of fate that met their elderly relatives. When persuasion doesn’t work,introduce various radical measures to curtail all freedoms until there is 100% compliance.
STAGE THREE – Introduce a vaccine booster, claiming that the vaccine is not as effective as originally believed, containing something that will selectively react with the spike proteins embedded in those who took the vaccinations over a period of time. The object being to cull those who have specific comorbidities that will ultimately require state spending on health, leaving only a much smaller and healthier world population. That population will be more compliant to climate and health regulations. Both governments and Pharma benefit from reduced spending and more income.

Of all the things I detest about this covid thing, I would vote face masks (excuse me, face coverings) as the absolute worst.
They are the shining star example of the combination of government bungling; outright bullshit from the scientific community; unquestioning regurgitation of propaganda from the the media; and wilful ignorance and paranoia on the part of the general public.
Whenever I encounter one of these mask-people, I’m tempted to ask if they know how much protection wearing a “face covering” provides. Because it’s obvious these morons have no idea. And it’s never occurred to them to do the most basic sort of cost/benefit analysis on the topic.
Don’t get me wrong: I’m all in favour of effective safety gear. I wear helmets on my bicycles and motorbikes. I wear safety glasses when using power tools. Seatbelts in cars and airplanes. Rubber gloves when handling chemicals. Life vests in watercraft. Of course, all of those items have been tested to be effective, and are manufactured and sold to established standards of quality and performance.

Why should any of this bother a government? They can just pass a new law making this irrelevant. They can do anything they want, in case no one has noticed recently.
Unfortunately that does not work legally with international contracts. And even if they could break this, they would face never being able to sign another significant one again. Its what happens to tin-pot regimes like Argentina, over years it ruins economies because no-one trusts the government of that country again.
It could be argued that this UK government is sailing close to that wind with its behaviour over the NI agreement with the EU as part of brexit. But so far its just managing to stay on the legal side of the line.

Looking at various media comments and there are not many left who still believe any of this nonsense, even the one’s still wearing a mask admit they just do it to avoid hassle.
The question that everyone needs to ask every government all the time is this: “where is the finish line?”
Is it zero Covid? One death a year? 10? Excess mortality at an average rate for the last five years? People spontaneously coming back to life?
There has to be an end point, and no serious attempt to tackle the “pandemic” can exist without one. It’s not enough to say “until it’s under control” without defining what “under control” means. And if it doesn’t have a meaning then it is – literally- meaningless.
They are asking for us to take an experimental vaccine in order to get back freedoms they never had the right to take from us.
Ok – well if you want us to do that you have to tell us what we are working towards, what we are taking that risk for. At what point is it over? If you can’t tell me that I won’t follow any of your advice, mandates or threats and nor should I because they amount to nothing.

Oh yes, I think we all know what the actual end game is. But we need to hear from governments what the end is. They must – if they are not utter clowns – have a definition of what constitutes success, a KPI if you like. Otherwise how do they know when to stop?

They’ve given KPIs from time to time I think but they just change them and no-one notices or they are so vague as to be meaningless, and no-one notices
The KPI is that 100% of your work benefits them.
I’ll give you one. By the year end the maximum number of people having and using ‘health passes’, ie biotech IDs. I think the minimum percentage KPI is 70%. After that they will feel they can do what they want, when they want and the majority will have to submit.
There is only one KPI in regard to covid 19.

To be fair, nobody I know under 70 took the vaccine because they hoped it worked. They took it because it meant they would be able to travel. And they are mighty pissed off it hasn’t returned life to normal and facilitated hassle free travel at all.
Also, I’ve just been on holiday and I am not vaccinated and it “only” cost me £40 more in tests than it would have done if I had been vaccinated. I’m not risking blood clots, GBS, paralysis, myocarditis and death for £40.
