MoD Demands Arms Firms ‘Fight Climate Change’ and ‘Tackle Eco-Inequality’ to Win Defence Contracts

1 min read

The Ministry of Defence is requiring arms firms bidding for multi-million-pound defence contracts to commit to a raft of woke conditions such as ‘fighting climate change’. The Mail has the story:

In the latest outbreak of Whitehall wokery, the MoD requires companies seeking cyber defence contracts to “tackle eco-inequality” as part of the agreements.

The contracts are governed by “key performance indicators” [KPIs] that were quietly published on Christmas Day and are dictated by the department’s “social value model”.

Priorities include “wellbeing” and “economic equality”, and if suppliers do not meet them, they face having their contracts ripped up, being ‘named and shamed’ and even disqualified from future work. …

But it isn’t just defence contracts where these KPIs have raised eyebrows. The politically correct rules account for 10% of ministers’ decisions over which suppliers to use.

Farming companies must employ “50% women or non-binary staff”, and education suppliers should have a “zero gender-pay gap”.

Meanwhile, sub-contractors working in export financing have to show “33% multicultural representation” in their advertisements – compared to the national average of below 20.

Worth reading in full.

Some tacky little public nuisance, I mean servant, dreamed this up. Just another sad reflection on those who pretend to run the country

Same sort of morons who seemed to think battle tanks and other fighting vehicles should be battery electric for zero emissions. DS ran an article here last year on that utterly impracticable idea.

Ah, but climate change is an emergency, you see, while anything that we might want to use tanks or other fighting vehicles for is obviously discretionary.

This is part of the reason why pretty much every large procurement or infrastructure project the government awards contracts for ends up being years late, massively over budget or having serious defects. There’s no accountability so ministers or civil servants can award contracts to friends of friends, in exchange for freebies or to help achieve some woke purpose without caring about the quality of the goods or services that’ll be provided. In the private sector if someone working in procurement gave contracts to companies that didn’t deliver what was promised when it was promised there’d be serious questions asked and presumably this person would be sacked.

‘This document provides a comprehensive overview of the integration of social value within Ministry of Defence (MoD) procurement processes…

3.8 MOD Priorities

…Fighting Climate Change: Reducing carbon footprints and advancing green technologies…Equal Opportunity: Supporting diversity, equality, and fair treatment in supply chains.’

What utter total and complete nonsense.

MoD procurement is a complete shambles so, you know what, let’s make it even more complicated, even more difficult for small companies to participate…Great idea…not really…

What is this lunacy? Climate change cannot be fought. The climate is always changing, has always changed…

Whoever signed that document off should be sacked…Oh!…they work in No. 11 Dunces Street…

I think we all knew this but this makes it even more obvious that the establishment are not interested in defending this country, only destroying it. They loathe us, and the feeling is mutual.

To them, the armed forces are just more “government posts” they can employ for their usual, political purposes and only for them. These people are really like some highly acidid liquid: The corrode whatever they come in contact with beyond recognition and that’s exactly everything they do or even aspire to do. Or like a locust swarm falling on some farming area. They consume everything which can be eaten and then move on, leaving a barren wasteland behind that’s somebody else’s problem.

A plague of locusts- very good. This might be naive or inaccurate but I get the impression that before “democracy” the British establishment genuinely loved this country. They may not have cared much about the downtrodden poor but they did not actively campaign for the destruction of the nation.

Insofar I remember this correctly, Cecil Rhodes advocated for imperialism as only way to secure the future of the British working class at a time when Great Britain was the foremost manufacturing hub of the world because he believed that it was the only reliable way to ensure that goods manufactured in Britain could actually be sold somewhere (in a world were states would usually employ custom barriers to protect their domestic industries from foreign competition).

Well said RW.

I knew a young lady, PA to a high level bod in MoD Procurement HQ several decades ago. Then, they only sufered from sheer incompetence.

In the early 90’s, my company won a contract for mandatory safety systems for a series of Fleet Auxiliary ships that had served in the Falklands. 3 months of bureaucratic paper chase from tender submission, followed by award of tender. A day later we had a panicked phone call request to manufacture, install and set to work the first within a week. The Dept of Transport had blocked said ships from sailing to Continental Europe with supplies for forces replenishment. Apparently a Governmental Inter Department pee-ing competition the MoD had lost.

We achieved the challenge, but MoD refused to pay as the deliverables were not routed through their warehouse system, which would have probably lost them. It took the threat of going to the press to eventually be re-imbursed.

This woke eco-inequality stupidity, just adds a further dimension to what was already hopeless.

Someone needs to explain how all those drones, rockets, missiles, shells and bullets actually equate to someone’s “wellness”! Particularly those on the receiving end of said munitions.
