Disgraced BBC presenter Huw Edwards has been spared jail for receiving sexual images of children as young as seven from a convicted paedophile as he was handed a suspended sentence today. The Mail has more.
Huw Edwards was emotionless in the dock today after being handed a suspended sentence for receiving sick images of children as young as seven from a convicted paedophile.
The 63-year-old previously admitted three charges of “making” indecent photographs after he was sent 41 illegal images by convicted paedophile Alex Williams over WhatsApp.
At Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday, Edwards held his hands together and leaned forward throughout his sentencing hearing as he was handed six months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years.
Westminster Magistrates’ Court heard Edwards told Williams “go on” when asked if he wanted “naughty pics and vids” of somebody described as “yng (sic)”.
The court also heard Edwards paid Williams hundreds of pounds after he sent him pornographic images, but his defence barrister Philip Evans KC said the broadcaster did not make payments to Williams in order to receive indecent images of children.
The prosecution said Williams asked Edwards for a “Christmas gift after all the hot videos”. Prosecutor Ian Hope said:”‘Alex Williams says he wants some Air Force 1 trainers that cost around £100, and Mr Edwards offers to send him £200.”
Of the indecent images he received, the estimated age of most of the children was between 13 and 15, but one was aged between seven and nine.
Defence barrister Philip Evans KC said Edwards was “truly sorry” and “recognises repugnant nature” of the images sent to him. The journalist claimed alcohol and the decline in his mental health played a part in the sick chats. …
Edwards, one of the BBC’s most famous stars who presented the Queen’s death and King Charles’ coronation, has not been on TV since he was named by his wife as the high-profile presenter at the centre of a sexual pictures scandal in July 2023.
In the completely separate case, Edwards was accused of paying £35,000 to a young person in exchange for sexual images.
The Met Police confirmed that no criminal offence was committed in this instance.
The mother of the teenager told the Sun that Edwards has caused ‘immense pain and suffering’ and should be locked up.
Worth reading in full.
Representing Edwards, Philip Evans said his client had “no memory of viewing any of the images” (which is a very odd thing to claim in light of the messages where Edwards repeatedly asked for more). He added in mitigation:
Mr. Edwards wishes to apologise to the court. He wishes the court to know how profoundly sorry he is. He recognises the repugnant nature of such images. He apologises sincerely and makes it clear he has the utmost regret. He recognises he has betrayed the priceless trust of so many people.
There is a prospect of rehabilitation. The concept of making images here is not a concept of taking photographs or moving images. He was sent all of them.
It was not payment for the purpose of receiving indecent images. Mr. Edwards positively told Mr. Williams not to send images of people who are underage. That is important.
Stop Press: Our Editor-in-Chief has given a quote to the Telegraph about our “two-tier criminal justice system”:
Toby Young, the Director of the Free Speech Union, said: “Last month, a man was jailed for re-posting three offensive images about Muslims on Facebook, even though he deleted them shortly afterwards and apologised.
“Yet Huw Edwards, who pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children, has been given a suspended sentence. It’s hard not to conclude we have a two-tier criminal justice system in which Islamophobia is punished more severely than paedophilia.”

Maybe people should boycott the airline.
I’m boycotting all companies who do not pay sick pay to it’s unjabbed workers.
I am also boycotting all institutions and businesses that require face diapers or vaccine passes.
Me too – I’ve also been boycotting all the shops locally that displayed the rather intimidating ‘no mask no entry‘ signs on their doors and windows. The shops that displayed the less intimdating ‘please wear a mask unless exempt‘ this I was fine with but it was those that were insistant that masks must be worn regardless of exemption that will never ever get my money again.
will never ever get my money agai
I’ve taken the same stance. Stopped wearing masks since last June when first freedom days were supposed to come to be (oaky, I was barely faking it before) and won’t ever shop in a place that doesn’t want my money unless I LARP as an idiot wearing a piece of clothing 100x larger than the virus.
i like to go in look around when they say you have to wear a mask i say oh no thanks and leave , is my entertainment
Of course! Who wouldn’t?
Good question.
hello
replied to wrong comment sorry!
Anyone got a list of shame in this to make it easier to vote with our feet?
Morrison’s, Ikea, and Next come to mind. There are more but I can’t remember at the moment.
Don’t go near anyway. Why would you?
They don’t know that. They respond to the volume of complaints. Tell them anyway.
Tesco were the same, I wrote to them and Morrisons a year or so ago, but neither did anything more than acknowledge my enquiry.
What did you expect?
And Ocado.
Just like people on here boycotted Tesco’s?!
“Santa and his Vaxx Pass so EVIL!” – “well, Tesco’s is my nearest store – do you really expect me to travel miles to another supermarket?”
Yes.
I’ve been boycotting Tesco since their heiress Dame Shirley Porter and her Westminster “homes for votes” scandal in the 1980’s.
Fighting injustice and principles are more important than convenience.
You could always shop on-line ethically.
I’m just pointing out the hypocrisy of the so-many who ranted about the Tesco Christmas advert, saying they’d never shop in Tesco again… but then out came the reports of “when I was in Tesco this morning…” – and out rolled the excuses: “it’s my nearest supermarket” and suchlike.
So disappointing. But not unexpected.
Think it was more about her unruly behaviour.
Meanwhile Sky news online have found some kids who want to keep face masks in the classroom. Seems they couldn’t find time to interview any with an opposing view.
What are the chances that those kids in favour have ultra-Covidian parents who have spent the past two years hiding behind the sofa?
Kids used to hide behind the sofa when the Daleks were on.
Luxury! We didn’t have a sofa to hide behind!
Unruly behaviour defined as not wearing a mask.
Ahh the “difficult” woman wouldn’t do as she was told! All justified then. Shame her husband wasn’t travelling with her so he could control her. Bet she was one of those bloody feminists too.
Little shits.
I spoke to a young assistant in Sainsbury today and asked if she would be pleased when next week comes and she can ditch the mask. She told me she had worn the mask at work continuously since they were first introduced and would probably continue as she felt undressed without one. What have they done to out kids?
You can easily find someone (especially a kid) who thinks the sky is falling, that XX chromosomes mean nothing and that England will win a World Cup someday. Lots of loons running around for the media to find puppets to spout the desired things.
That’s a woman with principles! Or just very pissed, I can’t quite tell. Either way, hold the line even if it grounds aircraft
But there are now substantial data points showing people, especially customers, are at the end of their tether these days. Made to feel powerless and performing actions that serve no purpose but to show compliance. Is it any wonder?
Even if you think masks work, the one place on earth that needs mask the least is a plane in flight, with near perfect air flow and top-line filtration. If they won’t allow that rule to pass, then masks truly are here forever.
I live with someone who believes in the mask and I asked her about it and she said that she will wear one to her dying day. The point is that a substantial part of the population will continue to wear a mask, even outdoors. I don’t really care as long as they stay out of my way. The schism has already been identified in terms of the separation. This will be our lives over the next few decades – finding your tribe and fitting into it. It’s crazy shit but it is part of our destiny.
This going to result in a huge shake up of communities as people move away from old deep connections that just aren’t working for them, and spreading out and meeting what they would have originally thought of as the most unlikely of relationshipa previously. If this debacle hadn’t happened we could have been stuck in old ways with people we thought we knew without even realising. This could the eventual making of us all.
They might say they will, but will they when it comes to it? If they are the only person present wearing a muzzle and are really looking rather silly?
Good thing a man on the telly didn’t tell her to stick her head in the gas oven.
Yes you soon learn who your friends are, who those with principles are and who the complying pussies who have no imagination for their kids future.
Given that it will likely reduce her body’s immune response to a whole-host of germs (that are larger than the pores on masks unlike Covid), her dying day will be earlier, not later. How can people who believe in science think they can monkey around with evolutionarily developed immune processes and end up better off?
Don’t worry, she’ll probably pick up plenty of nasties festering in her mask. She’ll still get a virus or two as well.
Hope she’s got a good dentist.
I don’t think any of the changes in behaviour we’ve witnessed over the past two years need to have anything to do with creating a “shism” or “finding your tribe”. This includes face masks. Anyone who chooses to continue to wear them has my greatest respect, and so does anyone who will never wear them. They don’t even have to stay out of my way. Just don’t virtue signal about it or vilify people for not subscribing to your particular set of beliefs. Mutual respect and tolerance despite stark differences in opinion are what make us human, and our humanity will prevail once people have come to their senses.
You only have to walk through JFK airport once (pre 9/11) and have airline officials screaming at you from all directions, and managing to make the word ‘sir’ sound like an insult to know that the airline industry in the USA is among the most authoritarian and prone to fascistic enforcement anywhere in what used to be known as the free world. And of course the BBC just love reporting it because it plays to their lock down narrative.
That’s a very “interesting” perspective. My experience puts Hong Kong and Schiphol in that category.
I wonder what your behavior was like in JFK.
No need to wonder, I was flying business class, several times, for a blue chip household name and going to a business meeting off the plane, wearing a suit and tie, and with shiny black shoes. Short hair, clean shaven.
Ah yes Schiphol, what a dump. So glad that I’ll never go there again.
They’ll miss you.
Democracy = human husbandry, we really are treated like livestock, under neoliberal rules based order. I used to love flying, literally the flying part, but decided decades ago I wouldn’t travel by plane because of the degrading way airports & airlines conduct their business & treat their patrons. Airports are like cattle markets.
“Airports are like cattle markets.”
No different to supermarkets where the cattle come to graze.
I don’t know that returning to Miami was justified … however … the reports I found early today said the woman was flat-on-her-butt drunk and was loudly and near-violently reacting with the cabin crew.
The cabin crew gave her several different masks to try, and she cursed them for every one. The reports indicated that cabin crew was trying to accommodate her, and she seemed knee-jerk intractable.
One passenger said, the return to Miami was probably because of the potential for violence in the drunk woman’s behavior.
(I realize that I’m going against approved commenting behavior. Please forgive me. I’m just an old fart who’s learned to go on facts.)
You’re supposed to be the Yanks and I look up to that because you don’t put up with bullshit.I love America I have family there. I don’t want to see it fucked up.
Plenty of Yanks sling BS.
For example, I voted for Trump twice because I knew entirely too much about the opposing candidates. However, I also know about The Donald’s slimy content of character. It’s been public record since long before he entered politics. But if I even mention any of that, I’m called a Communist.
People accuse Biden of degenerating mentally. They don’t seem to have a clue that he’s been that way for decades. There were jokes about it 20-30 years ago.
I don’t want to see it fucked up.
You won’t. It’s doubly fucked up already. Still the UK is little better.
you’re facts seem more plausible
Maybe, although having crossed the Atlantic dozens of times, I’ve yet to encounter accommodating cabin crew on any American Airline.
In fairness, my best experience was on Cathy Pacific, HK to SF in 2008. I was sick as a dog (turned out to be the onset of double pneumonia.) A fellow at the HKI gate got me a seat on an empty middle row, and the cabin crew got me a pair of blankets and a pillow.
If all in-flight drunken behaviour resulted in the plane turning around, I think that about half the flights between the UK and the Balearic Islands would never reach their destination…
Well done. Too late to delete my post above. I should have known the media would be slanting this story to effect the greatest degree of melodrama and discord.
Various views, direct and indirect, of the press.
“Freedom of the press belongs to the man who owns one.” — A. J. Liebling, 1904-1963, journalist, overseas war correspondent during WWII
“The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.” — H. L. Mencken, journalist, essayist & cultural critic
“Most of the greatest evils that man has inflicted upon man have come through people feeling quite certain about something which, in fact, is false.” — Bertrand Russell
Yes of course the media would do that. However, that being said, most other airlines would have found a way to deal with the problem, without all the nonsense of returning home. US aircrew are apparently selected for their inability to cope with a drunken woman. Though if there was no ridiculous mask mandate then I doubt there there would have been a problem. People seem too eager to let the US airline off the hook and I rather suspect that many of them are trolling for cash.
My father was a career US Marine — “Old Corps”, pre-Pearl Harbor.
I was raised to never make a jackass of myself, to never get drunk in public, to never curse out those around me.
Obviously, I do not measure up to the behavioral standards of modern times.
You . will . kindly . notice . that . I’m . referring . to . BEHAVIOR .
Why didn’t they just inject her with something to knock her out for a few hours? Why let a drunk person on a plane? That’s asking for trouble.
If she can afford first class she can afford to fly with a decent airline. On Ryanair and Easyjet flights over the last 18 months no planes turned around when i took my face nappy off, just a box ticking token gesture request to put it on and nothing when it came off again.
O’Leary is going to have to be ruthless to get returned to top slot
Greta is very conflicted.
– fully supports face coverings
– thinks this has caused the planet to warm another 0.0000000001 degrees
If Greta was the pilot she would have ditched the plane in the Atlantic. No maskless passenger and no fuel guzzling plane. Job done!
This is completely insane. American Airlines are clearly run by immature children. Some people really need to grow up!
Extreme incident, that sounds like a bare faced lie.
Straw manning, mountains out of molehills, it’s what they do when they own the megaphone.
She was obviously following the science!
I recall reading on the BBC news that the right response would be to lock them in the toilet. Something like that anyway. I think it is because covid is scared of toilets.
It is a bit confusing, though — our experience from pubs and cafes is that covid is scared when people sit down, but love it when people stand up. Yet covid loves people sitting in school classrooms and in planes. Luckily we’ve got VanTam to help us navigate the complex behaviour of covid.
“In other words, the vaccines were rolled out in stages, first administered to the most elderly (80+years old) and then to the next group (70-79) and then to the 60-69 group some weeks later. The death peaks then followed the vaccination stages.”
Analysis By German Prof: “Thousands Of Hidden Deaths Daily” …May Be Greatest Medical Debacle In Human History (notrickszone.com)
“Prof. Kuhbandner then examined the mortality data for Germany and found the very same pattern: large jumps in mortality immediately following the vaccine campaigns. These deaths appear to be directly the result of vaccinations. It’s just too coincidental to be dismissed.”
I’ve long suspected this. I think getting the ONS to provide data on deaths within 14 days of vaccination is a huge priority.
As No.6 said ‘you won’t get it’
Actually they are providing it — the data shows a reduced death rate in older vaccinees in the 3 weeks following vaccination, compared with the death rate in the unvaccinated.
However, this is a statistical artefact caused by only vaccinating people who were otherwise well — this reduced the death rate in that post-vaccine period. To see the impact of vaccines you have to look beyond 21 days, at which point you see a significant rise in deaths, particularly in younger adults and teenagers.
Read this article:
” Unboostered Brits Infected and Dying at Higher Rates than UnvaccinatedUKHSA Vaccine Efficacy Statistics: Week 3
The UK Health Security Agency has been condemned for months to report incredibly inconvenient vaccine efficacy statistics. How they have struggled. They have composed disclaimer after disclaimer. They filled a whole blog post with special pleading. They have greyed out the inconvenient numbers.
In their latest report, published just this evening, they’ve tried something new and bold. They now only calculate case, hospitalisation and death rates for the unvaccinated and the triple vaccinated. The double vaccinated have been banished entirely from Table 12. This will make the evil negative efficacy go away, right?
Ha, no:
The numbers are unadjusted, it is true; much uncertainty surrounds the size of the unvaccinated population and therefore case rates within that group. What is more, these are cases, not true infection statistics. Nevertheless, res ipsa loquitur. It is not a great look.
In fact, the UKHSA have given us a great gift, in that they finally provide separate case and severe outcome statistics for the triple-vaccinated and the double vaccinated, allowing us to compare rates across all three groups. They don’t do that themselves, of course, but no matter. We can use the raw numbers and rates from last week’s report to derive the total number of double and triple vaccinated, and the rates in this week’s report to derive the triple vaccinated population. A little subtraction then gives us a decent estimate of how many double but not triple vaccinated people there are in each age bracket.
Here is the graph the UKHSA don’t want you to see:
This is plainly a pandemic of the vaccinated.
The double vaccinated death rate is also a problem. You can tell this just from looking at the numbers in each category”
https://eugyppius.substack.com/p/unboostered-brits-infected-and-dying
In the article, there is reference to a 14 day delay in assigning vaxxed status, enabling the deaths occuring shorty after being jabbed to be disguised as unvaxxed deaths. I wonder where the 14 day interval is introduced. Most likely in the ONS, a metaphorical D+14 formula in a conceptual spreadsheet. The real raw data should be on the system and extractable via a suitable FOI eg via numbers of doses administered per day compared to number of 1st, 2nd, 3rd vaxxed per day.
These graphs are in Sen. R.F.Kennedys book = The real doctor fauci.
Well worth reading
I believe if you’ve taken the decision to fly in an aluminium tube at 30,000 feet with a bunch of strangers, then you’ve already made a subconscious risk analysis. This and all the other incidents like it, were about making an example of the non compliant. Absolutely nothing to do with the health.
That’s called extremism, imagine that, sitting quietly without a mask, as you would do in a restaurant, and then you’re arrested.
as you would do in a restaurant THAT, LIKE IN AN AIRPLANE, CHANGED ITS ENTIRE AIR SUPPLY EVERY 3 F’ING MINUTES!
Simple remedy for the dopey airlines….END THE MASK MANDATE ffs
If only. But not in our lifetime, if ever, I predict.
This may be about American Airlines’ insurance policy. Violate the terms of your policy (such as by breaking “public health” law) and you’re not insured.
Also it’s powerful propaganda. It recalls the local councils that put out stories saying e.g. “married couple aged 82 and 86 jailed for not paying the poll tax”. Or stories about people being jailed for giving a copy of some music or some software to their friend. Many in the population are very easy to scare into obedience. (Admittedly this is stating the obvious.)
I hope the victim of this action by the airline is OK.
We are all little children now who need to be taught lessons in obedience.
That’s what this is. Only a complete lunatic would consider that to be action that is proportional to health risk posed.
Attention all airline investors, executives and employees:
I categorically refuse to take any commercial airline flight until you do away with mandatory masks for passengers.
I have the greatest respect and admiration for commercial aviation as an industry. I recognise and respect the skill, dedication, and commitment all of the stakeholders in commercial aviation. But that said, I cannot, and will not, allow myself to be bullied into a pointless, uncomfortable, and (frankly) antisocial charade of mask-wearing.
I don’t care if refusing to fly commercial inconveniences me. I’d literally rather spend a day, a week, or a month, about a passenger seafaring vessel than submit to your tyranny.
Tyranny. And that’s what it is.
If you don’t get the message, then you deserve, all of you, to go bankrupt. I’d happily see you and your families die in poverty rather than spend hours wrapped up in a pointless and uncomfortable face nappy.
Note: This applies to everyone connected with commercial aviation. This applies to the engineers and technicians of Rolls Royce and BAE, it applies to commercial aviation maintenance personnel, it applies to employees at airports, it applies to pilots and cabin staff of BA and Ryanair, it applies to security staff at Heathrow and Gatwick. It applies to the cab and bus drivers who get people to those airports. it applies to the whole damned lot of you. Do the math on how many people this applies to, just in the UK.
That’s my “condition of boarding.”
Take it or leave it.
I am total agreement about the futility of mask wearing in ANY situation(except operating theatres and other ‘sterile’environments)
However last year I wanted to fly home and had to wear a mask for not just the whole trip but the previous two hours in the departure lounge and another 1 hour at Heathrow. 14 hours in total. I have never had any breathing problems even in highly polluted cities but I had breathing problems on the plane, nothing serious just panting for breath which eased as soon as I took my mask off for a few minutes.
I am stunned that the pilots who are all highly qualified and trained haven’t spoken out about this.
I could rant on for ever about these useless things but I will stop now.
some courageous pilots have spoken out [ and have lost their jobs ] and there is a group i forget the name in the u s
when will this insanity end .
one of the many great the white rose sticker s says ‘ flight delayed due to hurricaine brandon ‘gives you an idea how many airline employees are
courageous and refusing the jabs , must be a lot . terrible what they have done to pilots and all airline employees who rightly refuse this poison
She was drunk….
From a US site; can’t get the link to load.
Steve Freeman… That’s got to be a fake name, or someone without a GSOH thought it’d be funny…
Unruly:
I like her so far. Innocent until proven guilty is my verdict.
When they use that word they clearly mean uncowed by their threats dressed up in customer service double speak scripted to make insults sound like value added propositions
Lol. The woman is placed on a list of passengers who can no longer fly American Airlines.
As if she would want to.
Which list is longer do you suppose: the American Airlines no fly, or the public’s No American Airline?
What a ridiculous waste of CO2 as well.
Maybe, except that plants at the bottom of the food chain need CO2 to grow, and the more they get, the better they do.
Our healthcare system is about to experience a tsunami! Potential side effects of jabs include chronic inflammation, because the vaccine continuously stimulates the immune system to produce antibodies. Other concerns include the possible integration of plasmid DNA into the body’s host genome, resulting in mutations, problems with DNA replication, triggering of autoimmune responses, and activation of cancer-causing genes. Alternative COVID cures EXIST. Ivermectin is one of them. While Ivermectin is very effective curing COVID symptoms, it has also been shown to eliminate certain cancers. Do not get the poison jab. Get your Ivermectin today while you still can! https://ivmpharmacy.com
Psychotic insanity!
Either this was a planned manoeuvre if the pilot felt “a bit of scarring around the heart” (I hear its going around 10,000 feet up in the sky). Or the airline has a death-wish. Most airlines only make money from 1st and business class seats.
My conspiracy googles are firmly on.
Not sure of the plane’s altitude but this could be the high point of face mask lunacy. It’s like a bloody Monty Python sketch.
Oh my Gad! Oh my Gad! Think of the CO2! Those poor polar bears!
Regarding the wearing of face masks, I’m about to send some commenters bouncing off the walls.
Like many in fly-over-country America, I don’t wear a mask when shopping. However, I do keep one rolled-up in my shirt pocket.
It’s partly to theatrically put on in case an authoritarian store employee orders me to – my intentions being to drive them bonkers.
It’s also partly a precaution.
Several weeks ago, I was beginning to shop for shirts, going through the styles and colors. The store was smallish but not crowded, probably a dozen people in it.
Someone coughed. Then someone else coughed. Then the first person coughed again. Those were coughs, not sneezes. I quietly pulled the mask out of my pocket and put it on as I left the store, pressing the mask on the sides of my nose and breathing slowly. The moment I exited the door, I took the mask off, put it back in my pocket, and began thinking of what other retailer was in the area.
(I write this to see how many behavioral screeches I’ll get from the ideologically-fixated among us.)
On Tuesday, the [Kiribati] government confirmed that 36 of the 54 passengers [arriving from Fiji] had tested positive. All of the passengers on the flight are fully vaccinated, the government said. Source: BBC News 22nd Jan 2022.
I was the only passenger on a UK domestic flight (EXE – EDI) Aug 2021 not wearing a face mask. I was asked by the cabin attendant when boarding if I had a face mask. Saying I was exempt was not enough so I showed him my downloaded ‘mask exempt’ form from the NHS – “thank you sir, that’s fine”.
I am not sitting on a long haul flight with masked cabin attendants so the international UK carriers will have to drop this nonsense before I will be giving them my money.
They can probably carry on without your money. And… they are!
The traditional anwser is to have a folded $10 bill tucked inside your passport by your photo.
Oooops, sorry my bad, wrong third world country.
“What a ridiculous waste of fuel, time and money over something so pointless.”
Couldn’t have put it better myself. Absolute twats.
Can I suggest any normal person boycotts American Airline and let it become the favourite airline of the terrified.
Remember that Fauci wants to keep masks on planes forever. Even though there is no proof they do a darn thing (really anywhere, but especially on planes). America is nuts, and my family begging me to come for a visit will have to wait until American sanity has returned and people can choose to go maskless on-board. Until then count me on the side of the disrupters.
This the reason I wont fly until this nonesense ends. Which probably means I’ll never fly again. Hey ho.
So now not wearing a mask is an “extreme incident”? Gawd help us. The stupidity of the human race is unlimited.
Let’s spend 4 hours in a metal tube with a few hundred others but expect a bit of cloth or paper to stop an aerosolised virus. Yeh, sure.
I think the pilot made an error in this case. All airline executives begging the federal gov’t to drop mask mandates on flights, because air on planes is about as good as it is going to get!
I’m surprised one of the nickle-and-dime airlines (toilet sir? Certainly, that will be £5) hasn’t come up with a way of charging extra for the virus-free free air.
I am unable to comment on this piece without breaching the community guidelines
Perhaps the CEO of American Airlines should be asked to provide the EVIDENCE for mask effectiveness. He can’t of course.
Along with proof of asymptomatic transmission. [hint: there is no such proof – not one clinically documented case out of the millions of cases]
