Faced with a ‘severe’ RSV outbreak and a possible imminent rise in flu cases, Chile has decided that all schoolchildren above the age of five must return to wearing a mask. Adults are exempt – save for the requirement to wear one in health centres, which is now a permanent measure. Euro.ESEuro.com has the story.
Chile is facing one of the largest outbreaks of the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in recent years, with an imminent rise in cases of flu (influenza), in a situation that has forced [sic] the authorities to take extreme measures. One of them was the return of the mandatory use of masks for school-age children.
The measure was communicated by the Minister of Health, Ximena Aguilera, who had just faced a controversy over the lack of coordination in the search for a critical bed for a three-month-old baby in the city of San Antonio (Valparaíso Region), who ended-up dying from pneumonia. …
With this context, the South American country will resume the use of face masks that became widespread during the acute phase of the Covid pandemic, and which was mandatory until October 2022. This time, the measure will apply only to a part of the population and in a specific place.
According to the indications of the Chilean Ministry of Health (Minsal), masks will be required for all children over the age of five who attend schools. Compliance will be verified by each educational establishment and will be coordinated with the Ministry of Education (Mineduc). In parallel, it was recommended that minors wear the protection element outside the classroom when they are on public transport, crowded places or places with little ventilation.
Higher education establishments such as universities, Technical Training Centers (CFT) and Professional Institutes (IP) were exempt from the obligation.
Adults of any age will continue to have no mandate to wear face masks in public places. The only places where they will be required will be at health centres, in a measure that became permanent after the Covid crisis.

Welcome to the ‘New World’, where a normal cold now allows authoritarian idiots to apply useless, un-scientific, cruel repressive measures, and make them seem like the ‘norm.’
RSV is basically a cold for the vast majority..you can’t stop colds..period!
I’m assuming they didn’t press this on adults, because they wouldn’t comply?…
but threaten and make it about the kids….and there you have your ‘if it saves one life’ virtue signalling…..
The parents shouldn’t let this happen, or it’ll be done every year….
If could be long term thinking.
If you can condition children to consider wearing masks normal, then within 20 years you will have completely normalised it.
…absolutely…some people think it’s ‘normal’ now for goodness sake. What better than to take the common cold and weaponise it..?? Just think what you can then do with a ‘real’ virus???
I know what I was like as a kid and am like as an adult. I’d have done the same thing: research, find out all the facts then refuse to wear the bloody things. I’d say to the school “show me irrefutable evidence they achieve anything other than illness”. They can’t. I will never again wear one no matter what I am threatened with. As it is, I only wore one twice: my wife insisted (I took it off after we were in the shop) and an Optician refused to see me without one. I needed the appointment to get a referral for an operation but will never go there again.
My last optician grumbled about it last October, but I refused to use one, and he did his job after that. The assistants at the same place, including the one who worked close up to fit a new pair, were quite happy.
Anyone who is a real scientist, who truly wants to know not only whether there are any advantages to wearing face rags, but also what disadvantages there are, would conduct a long term study of children in different countries.
For example, Spain had a mask mandate for children age 6 and up – my friend’s at that time 9-year old was wearing face rags for 8 hours a day in school in Spain. In NL, children under 12 were never required to wear the horrid things (yes, I’m giving away my own obvious bias, but I don’t claim to be a scientist nor do I intend to conduct a scientific study).
The first stop is to review infection/transmission rates between school children between 6 and 12 in these two countries, which I suspect will turn out to be pretty much exactly the same. The second stop would be to conduct a longer review of physical and mental development. It cannot possibly be good for young, developing lungs and brains to be subject to such deprivation of proper breathing for extended period of time over many months. Add to this they are breathing in plastic microparticles or bits of cotton, who knows what longer term health problems this will entail. Then of course there are the noted skin and dental problems, speech impediments and so on.
All to ensure that their immune systems should not be exposed to the very ailments they need to be exposed to in order for their immune systems to become robust and function properly. 2023, return to the Dark Ages.
…all right and correct but countered by the fascists in charge who would call you a ‘conspiracy theorist’..while proclaiming they follow ‘the science’…and applying their own interpretation ….. even though it isn’t founded on any such thing…
“Feb 15th A Congressional hearing sent Twitter into a tailspin after Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Director Rochelle Walensky admitted that the public health agency’s mask guidance for children “doesn’t really change with time.”
Sitting before the House Energy and Commerce Committee hearing, Walensky told law makers that the CDC will continue to recommend masks in schools in communities where COVID-19 levels are high. “
It’s the ‘rules based order’ in operation…..their rules apply…so, as I said, it’s now going to become the ‘norm’ for masks in cold and flu season, unless people rebel!!….
So RSV is the flu then or a common cold? Since when has the flu/common cold become a child killer?
I think (hypothesise) that more people will be dying, or becoming severely ill from otherwise normal illnesses as the effects on our immune systems being compromised by the mRNA injections begin to play out over the coming years.
Much like the DPT vaccines reduced death from these diseases but increased death 10 fold in other diseases in Africa.
RSV or a common cold may become child killers if children are not allowed to live naturally and thereby build up immunities.
Breathing naturally tends to help in this regard.
Fluff me, the mental sickness is alive and well in people who really should know better! Actually thought this was a send-up until I saw the comments. :-O The best bit though is her bio, which states she’s a neuroscientist with a brain injury! LMFAO……………..
”I recently went to a conference in Colorado. How did I do so (relatively) safely? Respirator with double-sided tape maintaining the seal, Stoggles, Enovid nasal spray 3x/day, motel with no shared ventilation, and a 24hr cross-country drive there + back.”

She belongs in the bottom block.
This story is missing an important bit. The headline should have read:
‘Centre-left’, present day code phrase for extrem left wing, government again caves in to blackmailing by teacher’s unions. “Other people’s children can always go f**k themselves,” said Chilean health minister Ximena Aguilera, “they have no right to vote and hence, they’re completely useless to us!” [She then hurried away for a welcome address to a crowd of unmasked illegal immigrants from central America with their children in a packed hall.]
Avoid Chile is the lesson I learned from this article. I mean, all countries are doing stupid things right now, but masking children seems to be a special case of stupid and repressive. My daughter is researching study abroad locales for next spring. Strike Chile and Valparaiso University off the list.
That’s almost certainly being caused by teacher’s unions demanding this on threat of strikes to protect their vulnerable members. Unfortunately, nobody protects much more vulnerable pupils from them. The idea that it’s ok to throw children under a bus whenever adults demand that is seriously sick.
A New Dark Age
Didn’t realise there was so much ethnic diversity in the schools of Chile
