Excess deaths in England and Wales at the end of April shot up to 21% above average, after hovering around zero or below since the start of the Omicron wave, ONS data show.
There were 2,163 excess deaths in the week ending April 29th, the most recent week for which data are available. However, there were 1,125 Covid deaths, a similar number to the previous week’s figure of 1,042, leaving a sudden spike of 1,038 non-Covid excess deaths. Covid deaths were a similar proportion of total deaths in each of the two weeks: 9.0% in the most recent week and 9.8% the previous week.
The ONS report says the spike may be related to the bank holidays delaying registration: “The number of deaths registered in week ending April 29th is affected by the bank holidays in the previous weeks; similar patterns have been seen in past years in the weeks following the Easter bank holidays.”
So is it just a blip caused by recording delays, or does the fact that Covid deaths don’t seem to be similarly affected, as one might expect for registration issues, suggest something real? One to watch.

Just recording delays. Nothing to see here. Keep calm and carry on. Someone is watching you.
Coincides with Easter and the Spring booster campaign for the care homes.
If you look at the ONS death figures by age it does seem that a significant number of the extra deaths are in the age groups eligible for the 4th Spring booster vaccination. At first glance it looks like a number of these extra deaths were booked down as caused by other respiratory problems.
I’ve not heard much follow up to the midwestern US life insurer boss who said that death rates in the working age population had shot up 40% in one quarter last year. How come?
Was it a one-off? Has he been silenced? What do his competitors report? What do our actuaries see? In short: what the devil is going on?
Well it doesn’t seem to be a mass death event. If there was any reason for the injections, beyond lots of cash, it is looking more like a precursor to vax passports as a precursor to universal ID.
That seems to have failed. So not sure what is going on.
Not a one off. Other insurers reported similar rises. Look at their results – they are obliged to report them, quarterly in the US. And the excess death in the US is evident in their stats too.
It’s a case of “nope, didn’t see anything unusual” denial.
In the excess deaths data from Euromomo we see a spike in deaths in those aged 75+ at exactly the time that they started giving out 4th doses of covid vaccine (early April). The data for later in April isn’t out yet — we’ll see over the next few releases if this spike gets any larger.
How accurate is Euromomo? Looking at Northern Ireland you see no event in terms of excess death beyond a high flu season. I see at a reflection of the truth, however other countries see spikes, as in England for example.
Data seems erratic for the UK and Ireland
The explanation about bank holidays is certainly reasonable. If you look at registered deaths around Christmas/New Year, there is always a drop then a blip.
Yes but then why don’t we see the same for COVID?
The blip mirrors the latest round of clot shot boosters and has no corresponding uptick for Covid. As Will Jones says, it is one to watch. Meanwhile there is no reason to hand the Covid vaxxers a free pass, unless of course that is your real mission.
GBNews, which I watch on YouTube, is doing a great job of reporting vaccine-caused deaths and injuries in short videos from Mark Steyn and Dan Wootton.
The vaccine-caused avalanche of deaths and injuries is gaining momentum and rushing down the mountainside.
I hope it smashes away all the fools in MSM, pharma, and government who have perpetuated hysterical belief in the pandemic scam and the vaccine scam.
Agreed. I happened to watch Mark Steyn’s programme via their live transmission yesterday evening on this subject. He was interviewing a vaccine victim, who apparently worked on the BBC; not nice, but he seems to be doing a good job, trying to open the door a bit. I’m glad I said NO at the start of the campaign, given the emerging evidence.
Why was there nothing in the Queen’s speech about compensation for those injured and bereaved by the experimental covid injections?
Why not a law banning experimental medication?
Do MPs not care about the damage done to their own constituents?

So very many triple vaxxed people we know dying of strokes and cancers. Those not dying appear to have chronic illness, weak, pain in back, joints, muscles. Inability to perform activities of daily living. Unsteadiness, vertigo, chronic fatigue. What a mess.
I think this is mainly an artefact of bank holiday (including Easter) reporting delays of deaths. Deaths occurring around Easter generally get reported later and so a hump occurs after Easter of reported deaths.
But if we look at all cause death occurrences for England and Wales (based on ONS yesterday’s latest weekly death data) there does appear to have been a small temporary increase in all cause deaths occurring in week 14 (week ending 8th April 2022). But it’s dropped down again in week 15 and week 16.
Note the final point, week 17 figure is even lower, but this figure is unreliable, as ONS attempt to estimate how many deaths that have occurred have not yet been reported through a statistical model incorporating reporting delays. And so the week 17 figure will be materially revised next week and the week after, and then it should then be more reliable as most occurred deaths will have by then have been reported and modelling becomes largely irrelevant then.
