Jordan Bardella, the frontrunner to be the next French Prime Minister, has told the Reform conference that under him France would take back small boat migrants, ending illegal Channel crossings for good. The Mail has the story.
In a tubthumping speech to the Reform conference, Bardella said that if the National Rally wins elections next year it will “do everything” to ensure France stops being the “gateway for illegal migration into the UK”.
He joined Farage on stage to sign a deal that would allow thousands of illegal migrants to be returned to French shores after entering British waters. Farage said that could stop the boats arriving within 100 days.
“The English Channel must no longer be an immigration route to Dover and Folkestone,” Bardella told activists in Birmingham.
“The destination of illegal migrants entering France should not be the United Kingdom, they should be returned to their countries of origin.”
He continued: “We must put an end to these deadly routes, we must break the smuggler business model and together we must take control of our borders.”
Thanking Bardella, Farage said he was forging a new “entente cordiale” with France.
He said Reform and the National Rally were signing a memorandum of understanding on stopping the boats.
That includes accepting the return of illegal migrants who launched on boats from French shores and entered British territorial waters.
“This is a momentous agreement and shows that both Reform UK and the National Rally are serious about stopping the illegal migrant invasion, fixing our borders, and putting our own people first,” Farage said.
The National Rally is regarded by many as favourite to win French elections next year. Bardella is hoping to become PM, while Marine Le Pen is competing to succeed Emmanuel Macron as President.
If Bardella can pledge this, why can’t Macron just do it? That’s the real question.

I don’t see what’s in it for him – stopping immigrants from crossing the channel means more of them stay in France, which is doubtless the calculation the Macron government makes when it fails to enforce even existing law. The only way I can see for him to spin it would be “UK acts as a magnet that brings more illegals to France; if they can’t cross the channel they won’t come”. That argument is pretty weak at best
So that is why reform is being monstered in the press.

after all the lies and money the current government ministers are guilty of gets about two lines and it’s dropped.
we need a proper no partisan regulator for the press that makes sure that these things are reported correctly.
unfortunately there is no one who can be trusted to do this.
Its all about incentives. Change the law so that illegal and legal migrants get no welfare whatsoever. Simple move.
Correct. And that is Reform’s policy (and it includes social housing). If you (or anyone) would like to read Operation Restoring Justice on their website, you can see for yourself. This was a policy launched quite a while back and has not altered since.
The first thing the French should do is dismantle the migrant camps, if the police won’t or can’t do it send in the army. It’s been widely reported that the camps are run by the smuggling gangs, who knows what other sorts of organised crime they’re involved in. The camps have effectively become autonomous self-governing areas where French jurisdiction no longer applies, it’s about time they were returned to French control.
My guess is the French are as fed up with illegal immigrants as we are, who knows how much trouble they cause before boarding dinghies, and realise that if migrants knew there was no chance of reaching the UK a lot of them wouldn’t even bother going to France. Presumably this is why boat crossing are lower this year than last year, Macron has told the police to stop just waving the boats off so he can pretend he’s tough on immigration to try and win back support from National Rally.
Plenty of RN banners painted on motorway flyovers and the like last year when we were driving through Normandy and Brittany. Seems the locals aren’t too keen on their “new neighbours”.
