Police do not always need to treat people of different racial origins equally, Justice Secretary David Lammy has said. The Telegraph has more.
The Justice Secretary suggested there could be cultural circumstances in which police officers might treat someone from an ethnic minority differently.
Lammy cited as an example police deciding not to ask a Jewish person to turn up at a police station during the Sabbath, which begins each week at sunset on a Friday and continues until nightfall on Saturday.
He told the BBC: “Look, there are particular circumstances in which, of course, the police have to go a bit deeper than treating everybody equally. I think you will understand that.”
He made the comments amid a row over police race guidance that advises officers to treat ethnic-minority suspects differently. MPs have blamed the guidance, published by the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) last year, for the actions of officers who arrested Henry Nowak for alleged racial abuse while he was dying of stab wounds.
The 18 year-old had been stabbed five times with a 21cm Sikh ceremonial knife by Vickrum Digwa, 23, who told police Nowak had been racist towards him.
Sources close to Shabana Mahmood, the Home Secretary, have described the wording of the guidance as “clumsy”. Sarah Jones, the Policing Minister, said it was “wrong”. The NPCC has said it will review the guidance.
Lammy said: “It is good that the national police chiefs are looking closely at the language, because the police need clarity, the public need clarity in these circumstances, and it sounds like there’s not clarity fully in this area.”
He said it was a tenet of British justice that everyone should be treated equally under the law, but he added that there “may be circumstances where the police do have to consider certain factors”.
He said: “Let me give you an example where the police, or indeed our judiciary, on their guidance, have to have a certain understanding on a Saturday in a constituency like mine, where we have an Orthodox Jewish community, it is Sabbath.
“And there are particularities in relation to the behaviour of our community as a result of that, expecting someone to turn up and present themselves at the police station in those circumstances in a religious festival might be unacceptable.”

The oft quoted sentence if you cant do the time don’t do the crime is surely a prime example here. If you’re Jewish and you don’t want to be compelled to come to a police station on the sabbath (what about Christians on Sunday, or is he saying plod don’t work Sundays). Then don’t commit a crime in the UK which has reporting requirements.
This idiot clearly needs sectioning, we cant arrest someone if its prayer time, or the wrong day in their religious beliefs, or perhaps its Easter and we dont want to ruin their long weekend?, no wonder we are the laughing stock of the world, a criminal is a criminal, no wonder lifes are lost with this sheer insanity!.

Jews are not a race – they are a group of people who choose to set theselves apart from others on the basis of a set of tenets to which they all to an extent adhere. There are other groups who do the same, including Christians and followers of Mu(o)hammet(d), but perhaps with a slightly less exclusive approach for the major sects. Before we can get our Country back, we need to get our Government back.
However – Lammy unintentionally explains why multi-culturalism/diversity cannot work. A society forms because everybody in the group shares the same language, morals, values, manners, law (aka culture). This brings about social solidarity and unity, peace and stability. The law must be applied with equality and equity for all, otherwise there is no justice, but arbitrariness leading to corruption. This causes resentment, conflict.
If two or more cultures are put together, the morals, values, manners, laws of which one apply to the whole? If different parts of the population have different rules and laws then there is no society – just a collection of tribes. How then can they be governed as one? The answer to that is only by strict authoritarian rule which can favour one dominant culture over all. Dictatorship. eg Tito’s Yugoslavia – which fell apart after his death and the collapse of Communism because of the cultural tensions.
Even infants understand that if others are treated differently, allowed to do things they are not, it is unfair and resentment builds up – tears, tantrums, and punching follows.

As things are, we are NOT getting it back. Successive Governments and ALL State funded Institutions since 1990s are in Gas Lighting and damage limitation mode. They know the game’s up but insist all’s going swimmingly.
I have frequently commented that Islam is not a race but a religion: one can convert to Islam but not to another race. So by the same token, Judaism is a religion, not a race, so racism does not enter the question of respecting the Sabbath. As Jon Garvey points out, it is a question of the severity of the alleged crime how the religious customs of the accused should be taken into consideration. As in the recent case of whether Sikhs should be allowed to carry a ceremonial dagger, I doubt if he will be allowed to wear it in prison.

Socialists hate common sense
Common sense is racist. Otherwise, it couldn’t be common.
That’s not what Lammy is really thinking about. What he means is that dark-skinned people must be treated more leniently for actual offences they committed because they’re “overrepresented” in the offender population. In other words, he wants suspects belonging to groups with a proportionally larger number of criminals among them then the white population to be handled with kid gloves because of this proportionally larger number of criminals. After all, if only white people have to privilege of bleeding to death in handcuffs, this just demonstrates their white privilege once again!
Lammy doubtlessly considers himself a racial justice secretary and this means people who don’t look like him ought to suffer for that.
He probably also thinks that dark-skinned people are more likely to criminals because they’ve suffered from institutionalised racism and therefore should be treated more leniently.
I don’t think he’s bright enough to understand proportions and statistics in this, or maybe any, context.

Lammy made a speech in Parliament and via social media amid the height of the Windrush scandal and he wrote on X “As Caribbean people enslaved, colonised and invited to Britain as citizens, we remember our history. We don’t just want an apology, we want reparations and compensation.”
Please note the WE x3 in his statement when he was an MP. He clearly identifies as a Caribbean caring for his compatriots in an extortion attempt on his host country. Instead of having his British passport removed, he was elevated to Deputy Prime Minister – Starmer down with monkeypox and Lammy is in charge of the United Kingdom.
