Damning new figures show that nearly half of the new homes built since Labour took office have effectively been swallowed up by housing demand generated by net migration. The Express has the story:

Governments have also been regulating out small Buy to Let investors. Younger landlords are caught by mortgage costs and removal of tax relief. Older ones are just sick of the problems and risks. Agencies are now offering to buy the housing with tenants still occupying- at a large discount. Gaining possession is very difficult for small landlords and so previously family homes are being displaced by commercial finance and these are more profitable if let to companies with contracts to house asylum seekers. Coming to a neighbourhood near you.
Almost as if it was planned but given the retard level in government, just an unexpected outcome.
And they wonder why there is such strong opposition to housing development. We don’t want our green and pleasant land built over to provide housing for migrants.
And we don’t want their “enrichment” forced on us.
Are these new homes given to Migrants paid for by the tax payer? or are the Migrants buying them? if so how?
Building materials costs have risen very fast over the past five years. Regulatory costs and general state intrusiveness has added greatly. I know of several sites with planning permission (how socialist is that system) where there is no activity. None.
The biggest increase in the cost of new houses will be the heat pumps, solar panels and other eco-nonsense they now have to have. There’s no point building loads of new houses if they’re unaffordable for most young people trying to get a foot on the property ladder.
Might as well wait for a couple of years until the government changes.
I’m not sure the figures in the article add up. It mentions a shortfall of nearly 476,000 homes, Liebour promised to build 1.5million new homes so this seems to suggest about a million will be built between 2024 and 2029. If migration has created a new demand for 130,000 homes and this is 47% of the number built since 2024 then about 270,000 have been built, at this rate about 800,000 will be built during this Parliament. New policy and planning rules will take time to increase the number of homes being completed each year but are they really going to increase the number by about 70,000 a year?
The birth rate among native British people is pretty low. If we’d not had all the immigration we’d not need to be building all this new housing. It’s not just the new arrivals, it’s the fact that many of them have more kids than British people.
