Ed Miliband has been branded “the king of hypocrisy” for having no solar panels on his £1.6 million north London home despite bringing in rules demanding all new homes have solar as standard. The Mail has the story.
The Energy Secretary frequently lectures Brits on the benefits of the electricity-generating tech, insisting it is a crucial part of his push for Net Zero.
He recently announced rules demanding that all new homes will need to be built with solar as standard.
However, eagle-eyed observers have noticed that the tiled roof at Miliband’s own semi-detached house is bare.
The absence of panels is in contrast to one of his neighbours, who has taken advantage of an incentive scheme in the conservation area to install the devices.
Miliband has been criticised by opposition MPs for not having the “clean power” despite “imposing this madness on us”. He does, however, have a heat pump at the property.
The home currently has an energy performance certificate C rating, with the potential for a B. The seven-step system runs from A (the best) to G, meaning Miliband’s home is just above average.
Its walls are rated as “very poor” as it is assumed there is no insulation, according to the EPC, and there is only “some double glazing” throughout the property.
Miliband drew similar criticism last year for having a gas boiler at his constituency home in Doncaster North despite his drive for heat pumps.
The Net Zero crusader has even called on people to buy £400 plug-in solar panels from Amazon and Lidl amid the crisis in the Middle East threatening to spike energy bills.
Miliband last week cited the war in Iran and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine to argue that Britain needed to “double down not back down in our mission for clean energy”.
He told a “national growth debate”: “Every solar panel we put up, every wind turbine we build, every heat pump we install, every EV on the road makes our country more secure.”
“I just want to say this, no matter what some people would have us believe, solar panels, heat pumps and EVs are not ‘woke’,” the Minister said.
“They are common sense. Opponents of clean energy want to stand in the way of what the British public want, the difference is we want to support them in this endeavour.
“And we are also determined, and this is important, to ensure everyone, not just the richest in society, can see the benefits.
“That is why earlier this year we introduced rules to ensure new homes are built with solar and clean heating as standard, the so-called Future Homes Standard – incredibly important and people have been waiting a long time for this – alongside the biggest public investment in home electrification in history through our £15 billion Warm Homes Plan.”
Reform MP Richard Tice said: “Ed Miliband is the king of hypocrisy, no solar panels and no heat pump despite imposing this madness on us.”
Conservative Shadow Energy Secretary Claire Coutinho added: “Is there no end to his eco-hypocrisy?”

If his house’s walls were considered poorly insulated and it wasn’t fully double glazed, how the heck was it rated C? Should be D or E; or is it because it has a heat pump?
Makes sense to me, because contrary to popular opinion, I don’t think Miliband is an idiot.
He hasn’t got where he is by being one, and by virtue of not being an idiot, I’m sure he knows full well that there is no climate crisis, and is in his post to impose the will of the green energy industrial complex on us.
Milliband isn’t there to save the planet from anthropogenic climate change, he’s there to transfer wealth from the taxpayer and energy consumer to green energy companies, which I believe he himself is heavily invested in.

I remember him saying that he didn’t get an EV because Covid started. Maybe last year or the year before. I assume he still hasn’t got one.
The word that immediately comes to mind is smeghead, although not because he has no mostly useless solar panels on his roof but because he is a complete and total one.
