Nigel Farage recently visited Ipswich Town Football Club.
That is a sentence so boring, I usually wouldn’t risk opening with it. It is hardly up there with “Call me Ishmael”, “Mother died today”, or “In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit”.
And yet, in our stupid, stupid times, this (non)event was considered so controversial that Ipswich Town chairman Mark Ashton was forced to issue the most snivelling of apologies, wherein he lamented that the staff, the fanbase and “elements of our local community” were “hurting”.
Like you, I assumed this must have meant that Farage had gone around thwacking them all with a shooting stick and bellowing 'This one is for Alarm Clock Britain!' But from what I can gather he actually just walked about a bit, sat in the dressing room and held up a picture of a football shirt with, naturally, his own name on it.
This was deemed sufficient for Ashton to be plonked into a video-based struggle session, with an unseen monotone interlocutor posing sinister questions about “lessons” to be learned. All very six to 10 years ago. But we are clearly not out of the woke woods yet.
Ipswich also issued a statement with the brazen claim “The club remains apolitical”, despite the apology itself clearly being a political act. It added “Ipswich Town is proud to be an inclusive, diverse and welcoming organisation”.
Here, as we have so often seen before, is the pretence of neutrality for what are

If the club is apolitical, why does it participate on all the pro-LGBT and race baiting and pro-Islam propaganda that every Premier League club is forced into being a part of?
I think Mark Ashton’s father should have committed the “Sin of Onan” and spilled his seed on the ground, better that than fertilising this particular egg with it.

For what it’s worth, I think Lowe is right when it comes to “call me waycist, I don’t care” (the Millwall stance).
Millwall is not very popular with the great majority of footie supporters. And unfortunately, the vast majority of the electorate does still care (to a greater or lesser degree) about being called waycist.
Lowe may influence the direction of travel with the Millwall stance but he isn’t going to win a General Election.
Farage/Reform could.
I see his main role as shifting the Overton window.
I have a sneaking suspicion that his departure from reform was engineered precisely so he could float ideas that would be electoral kryptonite for reform, but need saying anyway.
No, Lowe was stabbed in the back in true Farage style while the man himself had an alibi for where he was at the time so his fingerprints are never on the knife. With the likes of Jenrick and Braverman joining I wonder if this technique will be much harder to implement in future.
