Met Office Climate Report More Scare Story Than Science

Apocalyptic headlines and shaky data make the Met Office's 2024 climate report read more like a scare story than a work of science, says Paul Homewood.

The UK Met Office has just published its annual State of the UK Climate report for last year. It reads more like a political pamphlet than a scientific one.

The Press Release sets the tone at the very start:

Record breaking and extreme weather has become increasingly commonplace in the UK as our climate has changed over the last few decades.

The latest assessment of the UK’s climate shows how baselines are shifting, records are becoming more frequent and that temperature and rainfall extremes are becoming the norm.

Most people think of extreme weather as events like the winter of 1963, the Great North Sea Flood, the 1987 storm or the heavy snowfalls and floods in 1948 – not a mild February or sunny day in April.

They say the most noticeable change has been the rise in temperatures, which amounts to about a degree in the last 100 years. There are many possible reasons for this:

  1. Natural recovery from Little Ice Age lows
  2. Urbanisation
  3. Poor siting
  4. Cleaner air, resulting from Clean Air Acts
  5. Greenhouse gases

But taking the Met Office data at face value, a rise of one degree is much less than the official Met Office projection of a five degree rise by 2100.

It is the latter that is the basis for the whole Net Zero agenda. Who would be prepared to spend a trillion and wreck the economy just to avoid a half a degree temperature rise in the next 50 years?

To put it into perspective,

Why does the NAO change? What causes the variation in ENSO from El Ninjo to La Ninja? With their settled science why can they not explain the causes of these natural phenomena? If you look at predictions for ENSO they are all over the place because they do not know the cause. We know what they effects are on weather patterns but of course if it works in their favour they claim climate change.

Interesting to see how following Steve Koonin this morning on GB News they were forced by the fascists at Ofcom to field some twat with a funny beard to defend global warming – well I presume he was as I hit mute. But at least they followed up with a guy from the GWPF as they ridiculed advice to smear yoghurt over your windows to keep the sun out. Maybe the swarms of wasps attracted by it will help too! At least we did not have to suffer Dim Dale or The Leprechaun. Somebody does need to tell Tom that the reason we do not use much aircon here is that the cost of electricity is the highest in the world even if the units are… Read more »

From eyeballing the last chart it looks like we have about 10 years before we switch to a somewhat colder scenarion, and things should start to go downhill from now on.
No wonder all the climate shills are desperate for action now as their boondoggle is headed for imminent demise.

”Record breaking and extreme weather has become increasingly commonplace in the UK as our climate has changed over the last few decades.”

Not true. That is completely refutable from real time experience and observation over my seven decades.

But. Leaving aside its veracity, that statement is the wrong way round. It confuses cause and effect.

Should be:-

“Our climate has changed over the last few decades as record breaking extreme weather has become increasingly commonplace in the UK.”

Climate change is the result of changes in weather conditions, so cannot be their cause.

Those working at the met office should know this, if they don’t then they shouldn’t be there, if they do they are lying.

And: Climate is the long-term average of weather conditions, including temperature, precipitation, humidity, wind, and other atmospheric factors, in a specific region over decades or centuries.

Being an average climate does not exist as a single, tangible phenomenon, and cannot be observed, measured, or compared, like temperatures.

We have daily temperatures, but not daily climates. Climate cannot be plotted on a graph. This is why “global warming” was banished when the graph of temperatures showing it was increasing suddenly… Read more »

According to the first temperature chart above, something awful happened in around 2010. Was that the effect of Ed’s Climate Change Act?

Data fiddling in desperation to keep the global warming myth going??

140 years of records in a few locales. Most of the ‘stations’ corrupted. Faux stations that don’t exist added to juice up the temps. Co2 or plant food, 20 parts per million human emission, 5% of the total, blamed for ‘weather’.

To say that the modern era is the age of the corrupt idiot is to be diplomatic. Green Nazism is not green, not Gaia friendly, not moral, and not rational.

10 000 years ago or so, where Central England now is was just above freezing.

Global warming is a slow, incremental, erratic, increase taking the Earth from its last Ice Age to a tropical era then back to another Ice Age. It’s is well understood and has a name: Inter-glacial Period.

It will get a lot warmer over the next few thousand years (probably) and there is nothing Man can do or not do which will change that.

Green Nazism is only rational if your aim is population control.
