STD clinics have reintroduced social distancing amid fears of an outbreak of monkeypox cases in the U.K. MailOnline has more.
At least one practice in West London had already brought in stricter infection control measures yesterday, before the total number of British cases rose to seven.
Patients were told to keep a one-metre distance in the waiting room and were asked if they had any unusual bumps or rashes prior to each appointment.
Monkeypox can be mistaken for syphilis or other common rash illnesses, making it difficult to diagnose early.
A health source told MailOnline the stricter measures were not part of new national guidance but they could not rule out some NHS boards ‘putting in measures locally’.
UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) bosses have now written to regional NHS teams telling them to stock up on PPE and be on alert for patients with a new rash.
Seven Britons have been diagnosed with monkeypox and six of them appear to have contracted it in the UK, in a sign the virus is spreading in the community.
Five are in London, one in the South East, and one in the North East. Four of the cases are in gay or bisexual men.
The first UK patient, who was diagnosed nearly two weeks ago, had brought the virus back from Nigeria, where the disease is endemic.
Transmission between people is “unusual” and “surprising”, according to experts, but any outbreak is likely to be small.

Easily avoided then. If anyone on their travels ie in Asda, sees any other living creature covered in spots, blisters or scabs, don’t go prodding those spots, blisters and scabs with one’s finger!
Mind you, if following social distancing recommendations, one would have to have very long fingers – or arms – to engage in said prodding.

Gates has been promising us smallpox for a couple of years now.
If someone has let this out of a lab, after the last two years, it should be obvious to everyone that “the authorities” are not our friends.
The narrative would of course kick off with a couple of imported cases….

I can say from experience that this disease isn’t a creation or along with health iassuefiction. My mouth is starting to heal but it ate through my upper palate and I could see quite clearly from that what it might do to heart tissue. Not forgetting the long slow route into the brain. If you think that this disease was a hoax or that we are done with it then I can tell you with certainty that you are entirely mistaken. I disagree with all restrictions because none of them work but this pathogen is real and is about to become much more deadly as well as communicable. Tell me I’m wrong in six months time and at that point you will be dealing with major degeneration of liver tissue along with myriad other health issues.

It doesn’t matter. You should look at prevalence and the gaps between outbreaks. A graph of the outbreaks shows a shorter and shorter interval. This should be disturbing to any rational individual. Shorter and shorter and more and more distant. You chose to break a cardinal rule – never vaccinate in a pandemic. This disease offers a very un-pleasant future.
Haven’t we seen these pictures (or similar ones) before in the recent past? Can’t remember if it was pre- COVID or not but I’m sure I’ve seen photos of pustular grot not so long ago, linked to people returning from abroad.
Perhaps we should introduce permanent social distancing, to make sure no one can infect anyone with anything. That would be a relief, to be forever safe!..
After this, there are more and more people I am quite happy to be “socially distanced” from!
