In this week’s episode of London Calling, James and I discuss the horrifying prospect of having to show a vaccine passport to go to a West End play, the absurdity of actors wearing masks on stage – which James just experienced at an outdoor production! – and whether the theatre industry, which is already on its knees, can survive this new onslaught of Covid balls.

Masked actors? It gets madder by the minute.
Pelt ‘em with rotten eggs!
Well worth it for the hilarious account of the Ivermectin fake news story spread about by all the usual lefty suspects without a murmur from the “factchecker” propagandists. I was following an excellent Twitter thread about this earlier on today, from Drew Holden:

We’ve got to talk about the Rolling Stone invermectin article. Turns out the story about rural hospitals so flooded with ODs that they couldn’t treat other patients was made up, entirely invented.
A lot of people took the bait, and I’ve got the screenshots.
Wish Toby Young would take greater care with his language. What is so difficult about disciplining yourself to say eg “vaccine resistant” rather than “vaccine hesitant”, etc?
When you are dealing with people (manipulative scum like the woke, like coronapanic fomenters, regime nudgers, etc) who weaponise language for manipulative purposes, this kind of precaution needs to become second nature, regrettably.
Transcript please!
Ain’t no-one got time for listening, a highly inefficient way of taking in information and debate. Skim reading takes a minute or two, listening takes forever….
No-one except those who like to listen while doing other things. But many of us detest this.
The only real difference between Toby and James is that Toby believes our government acts in good faith, James doesn’t believe so. The last 2 years have proven beyond any reasonable doubt that James has been right all along.
Not just ‘the prospect’ it was a requirement to see ‘Leopoldstadt’ at Wyndham’s on 19th August 2021. We sat in the seats we had chosen 18 months earlier. A little digging produced a ‘track and trace’ concession from Delfont Mackintosh Theatres so I was able to get in. The queue experience was quite jolly with the front of house staff wearing see through masks to add to the sense of absurdist street theatre. I was even able to score a few points with my August 2019 pneumonia vaccine which they hadn’t heard about. The rich irony of being required to prove ‘pure’ blood or show papers in the event of potential impurity being detected later before being let in to see that play of all plays would have appealed to Sir Tom Stoppard and Sir Cameron Mackintosh I’m sure.
How can one partake in the vaccine experiment Toby mentioned he was taking part in on the podcast? He said he would put it in the show notes but there is no info.
In the latest edition Toby promised to post a link to where you can, as an unvaccinated person, be part of a trial.
I can’t see the link. Can you post it in the comments please?
Masked actors in an outdoor production? Why did no-one shout out “Take your masks off”?
