A couple of Daily Telegraph articles in recent days serve to re-emphasise the dumbing down of the newspaper under its new ownership, which Ben Pile wrote about in the Daily Sceptic last week.
The first article was published last Monday, headlined 'Extreme heat is increasing risks for pregnant women and babies, experts warn'. It reported:
Soaring temperatures are increasing birth complications and defects in newborns, a new report has warned.
The report, which surveyed 1,000 doctors and midwives, found that at least 73% of healthcare workers across Australia, Brazil, Britain, India and Zimbabwe had seen an uptick in heat-related complications in pregnancy and birth.
High temperatures can cause surface-level blood vessels to dilate, which in pregnant women can significantly decrease blood flow to the placenta and reduce oxygen and nutrients reaching the foetus.
The first two words “soaring temperatures” tell us that this was not a serious study. The average increase in global temperatures in recent years is barely measurable against the background of daily, weekly and seasonal swings. The term is used to scare.
Are these birth complications more common in summer than winter? We are not told.
Are they more common in hotter countries? Again, we are not told because the study is not a proper scientific analysis, based on accurate, verifiable data.
Instead, we get all we get is a subjective survey of 1,000 doctors and midwives, which finds that “73% reported that heat-linked cases of complications have increased over the

They print the lies they are paid to print.
Because it’s part of mainstream media, fighting desperately for survival and it will do anything for clicks.
What else has happened in the last 5 years to possibly cause birth defects? Hmm.
It is a mystery!
I couldn’t possibly imagine what you mean. That too is a mystery. A total mystery.
Plus the continuously increasing number of consaguinous liaisons.
I do not believe the purchase of the DT by Axel Springer has been of any benefit to the readers of what was once a perfectly good news source. Since the purchase it has moved steadily left-leaning and, as has been pointed out, the standard of reporting is shocking. Do not get me started on Paul Nuki and the Global Health Security Team….
They still employ AEP for heavens sake…
“the Telegraph’s Global Health Security coverage is partly funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. …… the funding which started in 2018″
Rather convenient purchase of the DT by BMGF for 2020 wasn’t it ? I checked BMGF website that showed donations were in the low millions. I asked myself why would the DT, a commercial enterprise need charity ? I learned Paul Nuki who is/was a Telegraph’s Global Health Security propagandist whose entire salary was funded from that source in 2020. I used to subscribe to the DT in the noughties, the Grauniad before that. They are all propaganda outlets.
Both anti-capitalist, anti-free markets yet both benefit from trust funds created by . . . capitalists.
