Welcome to the New Look Daily Sceptic (and Please Make a Donation)

We’ve given the Daily Sceptic a facelift and kept it ad free, so it's never been easier to read. But we need your help. Just £5/month or £50/year will help keep us afloat and give you access to all our premium perks.

5 min read

As you can see, we’ve given the Daily Sceptic a facelift in an effort to improve the reader experience, and we thought we’d take this opportunity to ask our generous readers to dip into their pockets to help keep the show on the road.

As regular readers will know, donations from readers are more or less our only source of revenue. Yes, we average 1.25 million page views a month, which is more than the New Statesman, the Morning Star and Novara Media combined. But thanks to the censorious activities of companies like NewsGuard – whose most recent efforts to demonetise the Daily Sceptic Will Jones wrote about here – we struggle to attract any advertising. This is a prime example of the censorship-industrial complex at work. So please make a one-off donation or become a regular donor on our donate page – it’s the only way we can survive.

Remember, if you donate a minimum of £5 a month or £50 a year, you’ll get the following benefits:

  • You’ll be able to read the articles behind our paywall
  • You’ll receive those paywalled articles in the daily email newsletter
  • You’ll be able to watch or listen to the premium version of our weekly podcast
  • You’ll be able to comment below the line on all our articles
  • You’ll have the option of listening to all our articles instead of reading them

If you haven’t already set up an account and you’re making a one-off donation for the first time, you’ll be sent a link to the email address you enter when you make the donation. Click on that link and follow the instructions to set up an account. Once you’ve done that, you will automatically be able to access the premium perks. If you haven’t set up an account and you’re making a monthly or annual donation for the first time, you won’t be sent a link. Rather, you’ll be asked to set up an account with an email address, public username and password and, when you’ve done that, you’ll automatically be logged in and able to access the premium benefits.

If you already have an account, whether because you set one up to receive the daily email newsletter or because you’ve donated before, just make sure to log in before donating. (The log in button is in the top right-hand corner of the screen if you’re reading this on a desktop or laptop, or at the top of the hamburger menu in the top left if you’re reading this on a phone or a tablet.) If you make a one-off donation, any credit will automatically be added to your account. If you want to increase you’re monthly or annual donation, log in to your account, click on “Subscriptions”, then click on “Change Plan” and you’ll see some different recurring amounts in a drop-down menu.

There are more details about donating and accessing the premium benefits on our Premium page, which you can access here.

For a long time, I resisted introducing a paywall because I think it’s important our content reaches as wide an audience as possible. However, I wanted to give readers a real incentive to support our work by becoming regular donors, so decided to put one article a day behind a paywall. The rest of the content is free, but to keep it that way we really need your support.

Over the next few weeks we’ll be parting company with Donorbox – so you’ll now be making a donation directly to us. Not only will this mean we won’t have to pay Donorbox a commission, it will make it easier for you to manage your donation. We will continue to use Stripe for all payments – the same secure payment platform used by Donorbox – so no action will be required on your part: all your payments remain completely safe, unaffected and still handled entirely by Stripe. In fact, without the Donorbox middleman, you’ll no longer have to leave our website to manage your account. You can manage your subscription and payment details on our website – even cancel your subscription (although we hope you don’t). For those of you already donating via Donorbox, we’ll migrate you over to the new system over the next few weeks and you, too, will be able to access all your subscription and payment details by clicking on your account button once you’ve logged in. If you’re accessing the Daily Sceptic on a desktop or laptop, the account button is in the top right-hand corner of the screen (see below). If you haven’t logged in yet, that account button will simply say “Log in”, so just log in to see your account details.

If on a phone or a tablet, click on the hamburger menu in the top left-hand corner of the home screen and then click on the “My Account” button at the bottom of the menu.

Alternatively, if you’re already logged in, you can click here.

So, if you value what we do, please think about making a donation. We’re only able to continue producing such high-quality journalism by employing four members of staff – Will Jones, Richard Eldred, Laurie Wastell and me – and by paying our stable of regular contributors, including Steven Tucker, Chris Morrison, Noah Carl, Charlotte Gill, Paul Homewood, James Alexander, Joanna Gray, Tilak Doshi, Mark Littlewood, David Shipley and Ben Pile. And we can’t continue to pay anyone without the generous support of our readers.

Remember, just £5 a month or £50 a year will enable you to access the full range of benefits, as well as support our work.

A big thank you to all those who have donated already in 2026, particularly those who’ve set up recurring donations – and thanks to those who regularly post below the line. It’s hugely appreciated.

Stop Press: We’ve created a companion Substack featuring all our climate content called the Climate Skeptic. Check it out here and please consider becoming a premium subscriber.

Why, at the bottom of an article where it says ‘More from the same author’ does it then reel off items from other authors, and never anything from the same author as the article I’ve just read??

Hi ‘More from the same lane’ shows post from the same category, while ‘More from this author’ will show the author’s posts.

Sorry, but I get really irritated by these dynamic pages so as you click on a link you get taken to the wrong article.

It may be of help to other users who use a computer screen rather a mobile phone.
I use a full screen browser window to view the site and quite frankly it looks a mess.
If you resize the browser window by dragging the handles to give you the minimum possible width then all of a sudden the layout makes sense.
Note to webmaster. I thought you could set alternative page layout styles which detect and respond to the viewing device. It may be that my web knowledge is out of date; I last designed web sites 15 years ago.

Thank you for your feedback. The layout is under scrutiny and will undergo further polish.

Good to read that you’re using Stripe for payments, Toby. I will never forget PayPal joining the censorship pile-in against you during Covid. I cancelled my account with them and have successfully avoided using PayPal ever since. Just like Coutts and their de-banking of Farage because he “didn’t align with their values” – what a bunch of smug, insufferable, sanctimonious prigs.

Pony up. The price of a poncy coffee per month to keep this site running is a wise investment.

If you log out and log back in your subscriptions page will be refreshed. If you wish to start a new recurring plan you can do so at any time and we will cancel your Donorbox payments. If you wish to transfer the Premium access you already paid for in Donorbox, stay tuned for we will be introducing a button that does just that.

The login process at DS seems fraught with errors. Maybe copy what X.com do and keep the logged-in-or-not info on your site rather than my site. This would clear up many if not most of the problems.

So PLEASE do it

I relise now that the new format is designed to be read on phones. It looks a mess on my laptop.
It seems quite logical when the browser window in reduced in width to emulate at phone screen.

Thanks for that. It seems to be working fine for me now, and looks pretty much like it used to. I do appreciate the fine tuning ba=ut am still utterly baffled by the red line at the top. I realise what it does but still see it as an uneccesary distraction. How about grey if you have to have it.

I must be very simple but I couldn’t really spot the difference. But I do love and value the Daily Sceptic though I have a similar problem in being asked to login whenever I want to comment.

I like the new layout … and I’m pleased to say the tech problems have been resolved and I can now comment again.

Toby et al, your website more or less helped me retain my sanity from 2020 onwards during and since the Covid and continued gaslit years, which is why I have donated fairly regularly, and now by monthly subs. Thank you so much. I don’t object to “x”ing my way past a couple of pleading screens to reach the articles, but repeatedly going in circles to do so (all whilst being logged in) is a mite tiresome. Please can you give donors a way of more easily accessing daily content without your personal Captcha barrier? 🥰 Much obliged.

I think it looks great. Reads nicer on mobile in my opinion.

Whether the new appearance is an improvement is a matter of taste but I do not think the change was worth the disruption and whatever it cost. It seems the cost must have been substantial if DS is asking for more cash to fund it.

Please stop making changes for their own sake. The site does not exist to fund software and web designer life styles.

Personally, I don’t like it. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the UI before, so it does appear to be change for changes sake – a bent society seems to have become addicted to, and one I find bloody tiresome.

I don’t understand why my Donorbox membership has ended. Please explain. I have set up another Paypal arrangement, but it may be a duplication.
One other beef – popups. Suppose you are sitting on a park bench reading a newspaper. Someone comes and slams down an advertisement on top of it. On webpages this behaviour seems to be accepted.

I can confirm the pop-up today is temporary and you are now donating directly to us and not via Donorbox. You may close your Donorbox account.

Does that mean we can all cancel our Donorbox account? Or just this one you commented on? If the former, will we receive notice when to cancel? I don’t want my scheduled donations stopped.

We want to increase value for our readers. We listen and are planning every possible means to maximise value for your donations. Donorbox fees are unsustainable for this mission. A voluntary one-click transition to our new platform will be offered in due course. Rest assured we will never cancel scheduled payments without consent. We hope you continue to enjoy the Daily Sceptic and we always welcome your feedback.

I would appreciate somebody sorting out my Log-in. Once again I am faced with daily repeated Log-in. It’s bloody annoying.

Please somebody ?

Dear IT S, login via ExpressVPN screen does not “remember” login details, VPN-free screen does. Could this be the answer?

Looks great!

Hopefully the Donorbox move will fix the issue of constantly having to login!

The climate substack is a great idea too, wish all the great climate sceptic groups and individuals could / would join up somehow, help each other.

One feature that I appreciate is the email notification of responses to our comments.

Thank you for reading. Please help us keep the Daily Sceptic going by becoming a donor.
