London Climate Action Week (LCAW) is an annual event, the eighth of which kicked off on Sunday. With the intention of “harnessing the power of London for global and local climate action” the week is to climate Blobbers as Easter is to Christians. It’s a festival packed full of events, from litter picking through wine-tasting networking to boring lectures about the global economy, all in the service of the green agenda. But LCAW had barely opened when news arrived that Britain was to get its seventh Prime Minister in a decade.
The link between Keir Starmer’s exit and a Green Blob Fest may not be immediately obvious. But to those of us who believe that climate policy is a lens through which today’s politics can be understood it is straightforward. The Green Blob will admit that climate change requires dramatic changes to society. But debate about those deep changes has been absent from British politics this century, and the terms of the transformation have never been put to the voter in a meaningful contest of ideas. Since the consequences of such policies have been increasingly felt as deindustrialisation and economic stagnation, so a democratic deficit has broadened and deepened, and is now a schism running through global, European and British politics. It doesn’t matter what promises are made about the benefits of green policy, they cannot be delivered. And so the inadequacy of any Prime Minister who stands on such promises is going to be revealed in short order.

I looked up C40 cities earlier and they have this on their website.
For 20 years, C40 has championed cities as the catalysts for climate action. Our mayors set the pace for climate action. They deliver results on the ground and drive change on the world stage.
Sadiq Khan is one of the leaders of this global organisation. Is Burnham part of it?
It is obvious that nobody cares a jot about how hot it is or is going to be knowing, as we all do, that nobody can do a thing about it. All they want is power. It was obvious from the start.
To mark the hotter weather, London Overground trains are being run at severely reduced speed and with service cancellations. Other surface lines – including main routes – appear less affected.
But of course, they’re TFL, for whom – and the mayor – no one’s journeys (except theirs) matters.
On whether the rabid looney Miliband is to become Chancellor, there is some good news from one of Labour’s other obsessions – women. With Prince Andrew stepped straight into the leadership with no vote, Labour has yet again failed to have a female leader while the Tories can boast 4, three of which were also PMs. And this despite packing their shortlists with women. Also given that one of Prince Andrew’s main supporters is the formerly pink-haired liar Haigh and another is Lucy ‘Dog Whistle’ Powell, it would not be a good look to can the UK’s first female Chancellor for a man. He will also be stacking more of them into his cabinet although we have yet to know if that includes Ranting Ginge Rayner. So I think we might be spared by Labour’s policy of not picking the best person for the job and so the Office Temp stays in post.
“but we do not encourage events that benefit from the sponsorship or direct financial support of businesses, organisations or groups that are
antagonistic tointelligent enough to know there is no the need for climate action and a Net Zero future.” More truthful. When it comes to teary-eyed Two Tier’s I’m Outta Here speech the only true thing he said was that he made Labour electable in that people did not recoil in disgust over a party run by a terrorist lover in Jeremy Corbyn and could stomach voting Labour to remove the sham Conservatives.
Corbyn put himself up for election twice, and he despite falling foul of Morgan Macsweenies dirty tricks managed to poll millions more than Starmer.
Well reported. In the ultimate paragraph, I would have written, until the UN Agendas, source of all this subversive junk, are kicked out of British politics.
Someone please define “the power of London”
Battersea. It’s been switched off.
and Bankside, Wandsworth, Lots Road, Croydon.
The force driving the psy-op that hot weather is an imminent existwntial threat that requires emergency action – usually covid style “stop working and crawl into a little ball” type measures.
They are goong to leverage every degree Celsius to try to make up for the damage to the climate narrative caused by this last ghastly winter .
