Green Party MP Carla Denyer, the party’s former co-leader, has announced she will take several weeks off because of “burnout”. The Telegraph has more.
Carla Denyer, the party’s former co-leader, said she would take a leave of absence following advice from her doctor.
The MP for Bristol Central said she had been struggling with “persistent health issues” over the past few years and hoped to “combat the stigma” of burnout by being open about her experience.
Her constituency office would continue to function as usual over the coming weeks, she said.
In a statement on Friday, Denyer, 40, said: “Over the last few years, I have been struggling with persistent health issues, and I have been trying to manage these alongside the long hours and significant responsibility my work entails.
“It has become clear that this is not an effective strategy and that doing so is inhibiting my ability to recover. Having taken advice from my doctor, I will be taking several weeks off in order to try to get back to full health.
“I want to be open about the fact that what I am suffering from is burnout – and the mental and physical symptoms that arise from it. Burnout is a condition that does not tend to get better on its own. If left unmanaged, it can worsen and increase your risk of long-term health problems.”

I get it. It’s tough dealing with the pressures of demanding customers, difficult staff, cash flow, supply chain issues, the increasing tax burden, regulatory and bureaucratic overreach and simply trying to stay in business.
Oh, my mistake, that’s my life.
What reason does this pathetic individual have to be ‘burned out’? It says everything you need to know about the leftie lanyard class.
Probably fell out with her lover and lost her mind. Happens all the time, but nowadays you can get a very long sickie due to ‘mental health’
The Greens loved slinging the mud but are now coming under scrutiny possibly from Labour, Lib Dum and RUK.
The cynic in me wonders if she is stepping down with burnout before an investigation into her Constituency work. Opening all those fetes and attending the local events can be so so tiring.
Or you dont want to be there when the stupid “greens” collapse?, how deluded does one have to be to vote for this idiotic party?, wonder if we can all take a few weeks off and still keep our jobs?.
unfortunately that is not likely to happen any time soon
‘Her constituency office would continue to function as usual over the coming weeks, she said.’
Ah well, no need for her to return at all, then. She will clearly not be missed.
Her tax-payer funded salary, managed by IPSA – a government funded body funded by HM Treasury, which is yes, funded by the tax-payer – could and should be put to better use.
At least the poor soul will have SSP to tide her over whilst unfit to work…
If you cant handle significant responsibilities and long hours don’t come into politics and tell us how to live our lives. She is only 40 years ol;d!! She should have plenty of stamina. Perhaps she has never been busy before.
Or she has worn herself out with all the green doom mongering which she probably still believes.
Or, perhaps the sudden realisation that she is now an MP with responsibilities has forced a sudden adult assessment of what she has been blithering all this time, and hence to her no longer believing it… and now she can’t come to terms with the realisation that her entire political career is built on fraud and lies and dogma.
My guess is she will never return.
We can but hope, that should then lead to a by-election.
Last few years ? Exhausted ? Green nutjob ? Captured by the Official Narrative ??
Probably had three or four (maybe more) Covid death-jabs.
She should count herself lucky she hasn’t got cancer or had a stroke ……… or died, like so many of my friends who were full of the poison and became seriously ill or died long before their time.
Ahhhhh, didums!
Does Carla use her allowances to employ staff to share the load with her? I can imagine that trying to do everything yourself would lead to severe overwork, an MP has to learn to ration their effort and mental energy in just the same way that we all have to.
Maybe the Green friends and party hacks she recruited turn out to be no better than her.
I will just say that among large numbers of new MPs there will always be a few who can’t cope. Reform will have that after the next GE. The answer is for selection to improve, Whips to keep an eye out and for them to resign if necessary.
Solution? Resign.
Perhaps the civil service will take the view that the House of Commons is a hazardous place to work in, and recommend it’s demolition!
Tony B.Liar began the process of making the House of Commons irrelevant, I am sure you’re right and the Civil Service would be only too happy not to have MPs around at all.
Perhaps she is suffering from cognitive dissonance, in which there is conflict between peer pressure to deceive the public and conscience about doing so.
Conscience?
Tullock Paradox?
Wiki strongly supports your diagnosis of cognitive dissonance.
She identifies herself as bisexual (him or her today?), Nontheist (read atheist) Quaker (Christian) with the dilemma “Friends House” today or “Alone came the Devil” on Netflix, and Vegan (that brandy flavoured T-bone steak that smells delicious, or, mushroom “steak”?).
Perhaps being an MP is not the right career choice for her. I was going to say I feel sorry for the people she’s meant to represent but actually those who voted for her deserve everything they get and those who didn’t are better off without her.
Gosh, dealing with people who aren’t nutjobs is totes hard, isn’t it?
Being an absolutely insane Communist must be harder than it looks. All the best, Carla.
Perhaps she can go on a PIP
Do you mean a Performance Improvement Plan?
She’s apparently got COPD from constantly breathing her own bullshit.
