Net Zero “Harms Human Lives”, Trump’s Envoy Warns Starmer

by Will Jones
24 April 2025 7:00 PM

Net Zero policies “harm human lives” and undermine “health, wealth and opportunity”, Donald Trump’s trade envoy Tommy Joyce has told Keir Starmer in an attack on Labour’s radical anti-hydrocarbon energy policy. The Telegraph has more.

Tommy Joyce, America’s Assistant Energy Secretary, told a conference in London set to be attended by the Prime Minister and opened by Energy Secretary Ed Miliband that climate zealotry is a threat to economic and national security.

“There is no national or economic security without energy security, and energy security is not possible without access to secure, affordable and reliable access to energy,” he said.

“Unfortunately, the focus during the last [US] administration was on climate politics and policies leading to that scarcity. These policies have been embraced by many, not just the United States, and harm human lives.”

His warning came after Mr Miliband opened the summit with a declaration that “home-grown, low-carbon power is our nationally chosen route to energy security”, warning that reliance on gas cost Britain dearly when international prices surged following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Mr Joyce highlighted America’s exports of liquefied natural gas to countries including the UK and stressed the importance of cheap energy to prosperity.

He said: “Energy is essential to absolutely everything that we do. It’s the one industry that undergirds all of the others we know.

“A highly energised society raises people out of poverty and brings health, wealth and opportunity, wherever it’s found in abundance. When and where their energy is scarce or restricted, humans suffer.”

Mr Joyce also stressed the dangers of depending on China for the rare earth metals used in wind turbines, warning against “trading one form of dependency for another, putting abstract emissions goals – in the interest of our adversaries – first, and the security of our people last”.

I’m not in the camp that believes there is a conscious scheme to create human misery.

It may seem that way, but it’s just the inevitable by-prosuct of collectivism. Collectivist central planners destroy wealth, create scarcity, smother productivity and creativity through their actions which are based on the delusion that they know what’s best for everyone and can effectively plan the lives of entire populations.

At the very least if I appropriate a resource to enjoy exclusively then I inevitably preclude everyone else. Also consider a level of arrogance where you consider yourself to be so high above the herd that you are entitled to view them as a sub-species.

Agree Stewart – central planning requires only a few minds to make decisions – usually bad choices or officials are overwhelmed by the workload, but delegated decision making through private enterprise leads to better decision making overall. Just as a lowering of taxes raises more revenue as people are confident to invest in business. Sadly, many of those in power have not learnt the lessons of the 1970s and 1980s – probably too young.

Stewart you might be contradicting yourself there. ——-“The lifestyles of the affluent middle class with air conditioning, central heating, travel in private cars heavy meat consumption etc is unsustainable” —WEF——-So Sustainable Development policy from the UN DELIBERATELY seeks to lower living standards. Let’s not beat about the bush. It is most certainly a conscious scheme.

But people would have been saying the same thing about Mao Tse-tung and the Khmer Rouge when they were all getting started.
These net zero zealots are bourgeois Malthusian communists and they believe exclusively in their own enlightenment and their right to tell others how to live. They have no intention whatsoever of following these rules themselves because what they are doing is for the ‘greater good’.
They despise people they see as lower or less enlightened than themselves and they full believe they were put on the Earth as anointed ‘social shepherds’. It is only them and their ‘type’ who are allowed the spoils of modern progress and freedom to enjoy life as a reward for all the ‘good work’ they’re doing.

So yes, this is a conscious scheme to create human misery. Even though these people have pig shit for brains.

It’s clear that the government are a bunch of crackpots, but the Tories have been as bad in some ways because they have not been conservative. The rot set in when they allowed the economy to collapse due to their insane ideas on the exchange rate mechanism. That led to several years of recession which allowed the malicious and destructive Blair/Brown administration. After years of bad policy the electorate had had enough and the heir to Blair, Cameron, got into power. He did nothing to wind back the damage done by Blair, then when we voted to leave the EU they proceeded to try to undermine that, then the deranged Theresa May got into power things just got worse, then Johnson came along with an equally deranged wife, and a party so divided they proved to be as destructive as Blair. Then after years of them behaving like school children the electorate had enough and voted by not voting and let the current bunch of zealots in with no popular vote.
It’s clear that this lot have no interest in the wellbeing of the people. But I suppose we can take a perverse comfort in the fact that the whole of Europe are ideological zealots who in reality have no idea whatsoever apart from pretending that they have a proper economic policy. They are all quite mad.

“The lunatics are running the asylum”

A very high percentage of the inmates of UK plc have gone along with this, from the Octopus Energies, the Dale Vince’s, to the mask-wearing covidiots who took it seriously

Posted before and posting again…

https://richardlyon.substack.com/p/the-physics-of-net-zero

“…The world of wind turbines, solar panels, and batteries is limited by physics. Those limits are hard, and they are non-negotiable. Of these, the most fundamental limit is energy gradient.”

Pretty simple really, but the Kommissars just don’t get it. “Home-grown, low-carbon power” is our nationally chosen route back to the Middle Ages. Once a windmill, always a windmill.

Well said!

And it is NOT “our nationally chosen” anything, because only ONE-FIFTH OF THE NATION voted for Labour.

100% CORRECT. But we are governed by UN/WEF lackeys who put the World Government people FIRST on everything and the actual people who vote for them LAST. —Their Net Zero Agenda is ant human, anti growth, anti prosperity and treats the people of the UK with utter contempt as it seeks to deliberately lower living standards because the UN/WEF says our lifestyles are “unsustainable”. —-In other words we have too much of everything, and the Net Zero goal is to make sure we have LESS OF EVERYTHING. The feeble excuse that we must “save the planet” is simply eco socialist bare faced lies.

Let’s not forget that the Mad Monarch of Windsor is an enthusiastic supporter of “his subjects'” deliberate immiseration on the altar of Eco Lunacy.

Any chance of getting this bloke over here? Common sense seems to leak out of him unlike the Mad Miliband where common sense seems to be sadly lacking.

Miliband still spouting nonsense sentences linking low-carbon energy with energy security. He’s never got it and never will.
He’s also continuing to blame gas for making energy expensive. Well, yes, he’s partly correct there, but only inasmuch as we’re forced to look to imported gas because our governments blindly refuse to exploit the resources that lie within our own borders.
