Rachel Reeves has been slammed for “destroying the family farm” by imposing inheritance tax on agricultural land, forcing grieving families to sell up to pay the huge bill. The Mail has more.
Kirstie Allsopp has accused Chancellor Rachel Reeves of leaving all farmers “f***ed” following her inheritance tax raid during an explosive broadside online.
The furious TV presenter did not mince her words in her furious reaction to Ms. Reeves’s £40 billion tax bomb, raging she had “destroyed” the traditional family farm.
Reacting to the Budget, 53-year-old Ms. Allsopp said: “Rachel Reeves had f***ed all farmers, she has destroyed their ability to pass farms on to their children, and broken the future of all our great estates, it is an appalling decisions which shows the government has ZERO understanding of the what matters to rural voters.”
It comes after Ms. Reeves closed a tax loophole, making it harder for farmers to pass money down to future generations.
Previously those owning farmland benefitted from Agricultural Property Relief, meaning they were exempt from inheritance tax.
But now for those with farms worth more than £1 million, the ‘death tax’ will apply with a 50% relief at an effective rate of 20% from April 2026.
The rural community is up in arms over the changes to tax relief on farmland, with MPs in Britain’s farming heartland already being bombarded with furious letters.
One Tory with a large rural presence warned the Budget would “single-handedly kill the family farm”, the Spectator reported. While another says some constituents warned they would “have to now consider selling up”.
TV star Jeremy Clarkson also waded into the debate and said farmers had been “shafted” by Labour’s inheritance tax hike.
Mr. Clarkson, who owns a 1,000 acre farm in the Oxfordshire, posted on X: “Farmers. I know that you have been shafted today.
“But please don’t despair. Just look after yourselves for five short years and this shower will be gone.” …
Furious farmers today opened up and warned the nation’s rural heartlands were now at risk of being destroyed by the Chancellor’s inheritance tax overhaul.
Richard Payne, a farmer from Somerset, said he had already urged his son not to follow in the family business, which he feared was now “completely unviable” following the Chancellor’s Budget bombshell.
He added the £1 million limit would only cover the smallest farms and that the change could lead to more land being bought up by bigger businesses, forever changing Britain’s farming landscape.
“Right across the land there will be a sea-change for the worse. Everyone says they don’t like mega-farms and they don’t want factory farming, but I can see that will be one answer out of all of this,” he told the BBC.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live this morning, a potato farmer called Mark said he was left fearing for his livelihood.
He told Nicky Campbell: “It was a sleepless night last night. I started farming 27 years ago… and I have no idea where to go now.
“I’m a third generation farmer. My next door neighbour calls us a window box farmer; we’re just under 500 acres… I’ve worked out I will have £2 million to pay. I have no idea what I’ve got to do other than it will be sold and I will be the last generation which will farm it, which will be a sad state of affairs.”

The most evil and dangerous part of this Pol Pot budget.
Truly frightening.

NFU view and they are not wholly supportive of farmers ordinarily despite the title.
Another step towards enslavement.
The communists enforced collectivization of farms in the Soviet Union. This was deliberately done to deprive the peasants from their independence and turn them (well, those who survived the purges and starvation) into state employees (= slaves).
I suspect something similar is going to happen; the family farm will be sold off to large, faceless conglomerates who will then work in conjunction with the state.
State-controlled capitalism, as per Mussolini and Adolph and our current Chinese friend, Xi Jinping.
This!!! Absolutely spot on.
A good observation Comrade MajorMajor.
I lived in communist country for the first 24 years of my life, Comrade. I saw how the system worked.
I have had the privilege of having worked with a few people who came from the old eastern block, and do not relish one bit any of what is going on and has been slowly over the last 30 years or so. I have had my eyes open a long time, with the wests movement to a regime system that has already failed many times, only to be repeated here, doesn’t fill me with any confidence for the future.
It’s exactly the same policies, methods, ideology. It’s really shocking for somebody who has seen this in practice; in fact you will find there are quite a few old communist dissidents who were astonished when they realized that the West is trying to implement the same policies that resulted in mass scale destruction of societies, economies, starvation, terror and slavery in Eastern Europe. It’s not like these guys have even managed to come up with something original – it’s all the same stuff!
All totalitarian ideas come from a common flawed utopian idea; ultimately they are a murderous cult.
I think that their policies will fail is the point. They are not as stupid as people might think. Utopia is not the plan. Destruction of society, starvation and slavery is the plan. It is clear that all resources are being concentrated in their own hands.
That economically their policies will fail is beyond a shadow of a doubt.
But, as you correctly say, the (covert) aim is destruction and from that diabolical point of view communism, with 100 million corpses, was a total success story.
Every totalitarian utopia is a death cult.
“You will know them by their fruits.”
It doesn’t matter what they say. That’s just deception. Just like a conman not going to tell you “I’m planning to steal your money”. Look at the end result: Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot. It’s always the same.
I had a Polish plumber in the other day, I asked him what he thought of the Lockdowns etc and he just said “I complied”….I mentioned to him that the reason why I asked is because many more poles were suspicious of the ‘Covid’ measures than the average brit coming from the Eastern Block.
Isn’t robbing farm owners entirely compatible with Ulrike Herman’s war on capitalism and the banking system? Similarly isn’t the disruption of farming in Denmark (via restrictions on fertilisers and high energy prices) part of the same war?
In the US I would expect to find billionaires with long views buying up coal mines (or rights) and farms at bankrupt sale price, and then cashing out once the Green Fanaticism collapses? Similarly in the EU would the same would happen, but with the state playing the role of the billionaires, in a form of “Socialist Capitalism”?
Yes, it’s all part of the same trend: a destruction of property rights through taxation.
You will own nothing and you will be very, very happy.
As the sign at the gate of the Solovki forced labour camp (Gulag) said: “With an iron fist, we will lead humanity to happiness”.
The Netherlands.
The ‘faceless’ conglomerates are the ones driving this agenda. The ‘Public/Private Partnership’ is bunk. It is all in the interest of the faceless private conglomerates. The authority of ‘the state’ has been usurped by these predatory money/power ruling interests. It was no different at the time of the establishment of the Soviet Union, the predatory money/power ruling interests funded revolution but failed to control the outcome. Same story with Iraq, Iran, Libya, Syria to identify a few. They use their ‘dogs’ to overthrow national governments where they had previously failed to exert control, put their preferred crew in, eg Ukraine, and if it all, in the end, goes against them, then they smash it all down again, shuffle the pack. From chaos comes order, and if it is not the order wanted, cause yet more chaos.
Just so blatant isn’t it
The IHT rules for farm land were not a “loophole”. They were policy. Agreed by successive governments and parliaments for very good reasons.
A loophole is an unintended consequence of myopia or incompetence by those in HMT who draft the law badly.
Why can journos not understand that. Just as they do not understand the difference between income and wealth or spending and investment.
Quite right, they also do not understand that Government investments are debt, which promote inflation, stagnation, and recession, and without some positive actions to promote private industry (which generates wealth) we are going to see more Government investment, debt, inflation and recession. Eventually the present money systems will be destroyed and replaced with a government currency of complete control, over all of your actions.
There is also a pervasive, but implicit, idea that government is entitled to our money: This is from Which? but I have seen similar wording elsewhere, relating to various aspects of the wealth grab:
“That reduction [in fuel duty] was extended by the previous government in the Spring Budget, but forecasts by the Office for Budget Responsibility suggest that freezing the threshold until 2029 could cost £15 billion”
“could cost” is wrong. What they really mean is that freezing the threshold would miss the opportunity to TAKE another £15 billion. This sort of misdirection in the media conditions people to think that government is entitled to take our money, and to be grateful when they don’t take more.
We have an economically illiterate govt, including a non-economist Chancellor.
Starmer & Reeves are guided by Antonio Gutteres & Co at the UN/WEF. Plans are to ruin small farmers and force them to sell up to provide land for low-cost housing for immigrants. They’ve already tried it in Holland.
The Great Reset is in full swing.
The land is more likely to be acquired by green billionaires who will cover it in
renewablesundependables and harvest the subsidies. It is deliberate, Labour are friends of the WEF, they want small farms gone, and our ability to produce food given over to large conglomorates and the likes of Bill Gates, through these people we will become like America, the food grown will be subjected to large scale chemical use, we will be fed toxic, substandard produce which, will like America result in chronic illness, which will allow big Pharma to take its cut of human livelihood, all of course will result in mass payback to Labour and its Ministers, likewise much land currently used for Agriculture and livestock, will be Ed Millibands wet dream plaything as he concretes over with windmills and Solar farms produced by their friends in China, and for which tax payers money will be given to subsidise.
Reeves and Starmer, know full well what they are doing, its deliberate and its an attack on Britain and the British people, whom they regard as peasants
Absolutely spot on.
You can of course put the family farm into a trust but this is a complex business with advantages and disadvantages. It does work best if there is a happy and harmonious family to run the trust, this is, of course, not always the situation in the family farming world!
This sounds an idea until the Children do not wish to be farmers. Getting the money out is when taxation takes its toll, at the highest rate!
This is all aimed at housing immigrants and MadBands wind farms and Solar Farms. It was no surprise mad immediately signed off three massive solar farms on prime farming land. It’s okay Clarkson saying “Hold on 5 years” but the other lot are as insane as the current wozacks.
When people talk about Rwanda and asylum, well, I wish it hadn’t been cancelled. Within a year most of us will be pleading for asylum anywhere.
True….They are both serving the Globalist oligarchs. The Uni-party!
Well it’s good to see some anger at last over a topic I have been posting about for months. This is about depopulation and control. Windfarms are a side issue. Control of the food supply is not.
The farmers needed a good dose of reality. This should start to wake up a few!
Are you saying that destroying farming is a good idea? Farmers have more than enough reality, you should try it. Watch Clarkson’s farm. About £12 Million invested, £1000 profit for a year! I suppose you think that is a sensible return?
Exactly.
I work with farmers all year. The reality is an eye-opener.
Yet another example our naive MSM.
‘an appalling decisions which shows the government has ZERO understanding of the what matters to rural voters …’
It’s nothing to do with understanding, everything to do with destroying our agriculture, families and english way of life.
It is a wilful, deliberate and planned attack.
I’ll be very interested to see Clarkson driving the first tractor in the convoy to London, muck spreader attached …
They really do want us eating ze bugs and highly processed vegan muck. How better to achieve it than destroy farms/farming.
Control the source of food, and you can control the population. Modern civilisation is only ever 3 meals away from collapse
“it is an appalling decisions which shows the government has ZERO understanding of the what matters to rural voters.”
I fear they have complete understanding of what matters to rural voters but they don’t care. Their only concern is what matters to their puppet masters the WEF and their global cartel of robber barons.
Good to see such awareness today. The next five years are going to be a disaster for our economy. Local and by elections will see the protest votes surge for The Reform Party. But in 2029 if the right is still split the Torys must swallow their pride and engage in some form of merger or pact with Reform to put an end to the creep towards communism. The writing or rather the picture is on the wall of Reeves office.
Which Tories? They are toast…crumbs…a relic of a once-proud party of leadership
I am in complete agreement.
Reform are borderline.
The Tories were ordered to self destruct and did so.
Labour are being run by the Davos Deviants and will be extinct by 2029.
The conclusion is…
Our salvation will not arrive via the ballot box.
Aye that’s true….The true Tories ended with Thatcher.
Isn’t it the policy of the Net Zeroids to destroy farming?
Why the surprise?
All in Agenda 2030 and in line with what that Green German nutter was saying.
I really want to pick up on that point, because the UK is signed up to this utopian communist agenda and we need to resign pronto. “Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”: Goal 2. End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture.” Followed by 8 points describing some kind of agricultural paradise. Agenda 2030 and Sustainable Development Goals constitute a graphic Communist Manifesto which true to its nature aims at world domination. Why does no one talk about this in the mainstream?
Rachel Thieves British Farmers
The left has always been against private property.

Brilliant.
Farms and estates will need to be ringfenced by family trusts – preferably off-shore.
Trusts are a possibility but they are not a simple solution and have both advantages and disadvantages. If all stays harmonious and agreeable then all is OK but if the Trustees fall out they can be a nightmare.
“It comes after Ms. Reeves closed a tax loophole, making it harder for farmers to pass money down to future generations.”. Actually, the govt has no business taxing any estate handed down from one generation to the next, regardless of whether it’s a farm or not. The loophole is that there is a tax.
The most frightening thing is that the consequences of this tax are clear to even the smallest child.
So what is going on?
Are they rhat stupid?
Or what is the hidden agenda?
Now we know why Bill Gates was at no. 10.
Well the plan is of course to get rid of the small farmers so the Government can take over the land and install swathes of inefficient solar panels on the vacated land. I mean, who needs food production anyway!
Presumably under the new Labour Rules, farmers are no longer Working People.
All part of the plan! Agenda 2021/30…
WHO ever controls food supply controls the population. FACT! Pure evil.
AGENDA 21 YOUR LIFE IN THEIR HANDS by Martin Adams is worth a look. Originally written in 2013.
Their plan is working. We’ll be eating Gates’ manufactured mince before we know it
Of all this awful Budget proposals this one on family farms is by far the worst and based, I presume, on Labour’s hatred of traditional families and their businesses. It adds to the green Net Zero nonsense of rewilding and will reduce the UK’s sufficiency in food still further.
