Emma Thompson and Gary Lineker Front Eco-Campaign Despite Hypocritical Jet-Set Lifestyles

by Toby Young
21 September 2024 1:00 PM

Gary Lineker and Dame Emma Thompson have called for the phasing out of fossil fuels despite admitting they are hypocrites for their jet-setting lifestyles. The Telegraph has more.

A group of film stars, musicians and activists has signed an open letter demanding that world leaders “transition away from fossil fuels”.

The letter is being put forward by the group Our Kids Climate – a worldwide group of parents concerned about their children’s future – ahead of the UN Summit for the Future.

Lineker, the Match of the Day presenter, is among the signatories of the letter despite his 2023 admission that he is a climate “hypocrite” due to his continued use of air travel.

In July last year he responded to a series of screenshots of tweets he had posted about flying abroad.

He wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “We’ll need a rethink eventually, I imagine. We need to seek alternatives, if we’re still around to seek them.

“Yes, I take scheduled flights, never under any circumstances these days will I go on private planes, but I’ll say again, we’re all hypocrites and all can do better.”

He was also criticised in 2023 by Tory MPs for sympathising with an Extinction Rebellion protest while himself having a “CO2 footprint that is easily in the top one per cent of the population”.

British actress Dame Emma has also added her signature to the fossil fuel plea.

She has admitted being “hypocritical” in the past after flying from her LA home to attend a 2019 Extinction Rebellion protest in London.

Responding to criticism at the time, Dame Emma said: “I may well be hypocritical by flying but I’m conscious of flying so I fly much less, but sometimes I have to when I’m working.”

The letter setting out climate demands on behalf of children has been signed by “notable parents”, including Julie Walters, Ray Winstone, and Rosario Dawson.

It is addressed to world leaders and has been made public ahead of the United Nations Summit of the Future.

The letter states: “The burning of fossil fuels drives the climate crisis, harming children now and stealing their futures.

“It is crucial that the Summit makes an unambiguous commitment to a just and fair transition away from fossil fuels.

“And it is crucial that you, as world leaders, and indeed as parents, make good on that commitment, so that we can pass on a healthy planet to our children.”

Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, is another signatory and has also been accused of climate hypocrisy after it was revealed that he and his team had racked up tens of thousands of air miles since his election in 2016.

Worth reading in full.

As I have posted many times previously, I am not concerned about the future but I am concerned about my comforts today. It is not my responsibility to give up my current lifestyle for the sake of those not yet born. Are we all supposed to live our lives for a future we will never see?

Obviously I do not believe the climate nonsense and I would consider myself seriously barking if I was ever likely to find my views coinciding with pea brains such as Lineker and Thompson.

The climate scam is something I will never fall for.

Unfortunately you are in a minority. There’s a hand-wringing article in the Torygraph today about how ‘Covid’ (i.e. the lockdowns) is still casting a shadow over society in many ways. Of course it rounds up ‘but without lockdowns, many trillions more people would have died’ (I paraphrase).
I imagine in 2050, an equivalent news outlet (surely the DT would have been put out of its misery by then?) running an article ‘who could possibly have foreseen the terrible effects on British society of Net Zero?’

I saw the Telegraph headline, apart from Alison Pearson, that paper along with the rest of the MSM, was with its editors and writers complicit in what was done to us, the damage to people, and the economy which continues today. They were responsible, if they had stood against the lies, and fear mongering then they would have credibility, but just like the politicians and the sickos in SAGE they did this, and I view all that they write now with the eyes of a cynic.

If it’s not those godawful wind turbine eyesores vandalizing our beautiful vistas it’s these things, because we have to destroy nature to save the planet, apparently. Make it make sense.

”NET ZERO JAPAN – Citizens are horrified at how Megasolar factories are destroying the environment.

Thousands of solar factories have meant felling millions of trees & losing rice fields & wildlife.

Exactly as planned in the UK … to save the planet.”

Imagine if our ancestors circa 1800 had given up fossil fuels to save future generations – us – from climate change.

The future for my children is something I’m concerned about and that is why I’m opposed to this Net Zero nonsense. Can you imagine a world without plastics? Of course that will never happen because all products made from plastic will just be manufactured in China instead as our ability to manufacture anything is further diminished. How will our armed forces function and how will we defend ourselves with weapons reliant on solar and wind power? It’s insanity.

“Obviously I do not believe the climate nonsense”——–Yes but the great thing is that science isn’t about what people “believe”. It is about evidence, and the proponents of dangerous climate change don’t have any, which is why they go on the defensive and claim nonsense like “all scientists agree”. But as Einstein pointed out when he was presented with a petition from 100 scientists disagreeing with his relativity. —-“Why 100? if I am wrong, one would be enough”.

Their jobs may in some respects depend on their evangelical spouting of this nonsense. Look to those who employ them and their evil agendas and who, in turn, is pulling their strings.

Why don’t these two hypocrites try living without fossil fuels, and all the derivatives, for just one month.
My guess, they’d both be dead.

Transition away from… to…?

I didn’t think the Lineker creature needed a plane to fly, having his own aerodynamic equipment attached and a head full of lighter-than-air gas.

Good point. And no matter what we do now it cannot provide any guarantees for the future and for those yet to be born. More off the scale hubris.

Precisely – it is “Net Zero” which will steal the futures of the young. The cheap energy, freedom and resulting opportunities which have been realised by so-called fossil fuels will not be enjoyed by the young if this suicidal policy is not stopped.

Given that scientists have proven what an absolute load of b%%lox climate change/crisis is, it just goes to show how desperate these people are to get publicity, any publicity, so concerned, go kick off at China/USA, but nah….

If someone tells me the about a subject and points out the damage I am doing to whatever it is, then I would be more than happy to change. However, I am not going to change things, nor campaign for change, to further the cause of risible lies.
Ask a Climate Crisis Evangelist where a single document, just one, can be found in the entire world that proves there is a Climate Crisis and is not modelled. I always tell them not to bother looking: it doesn’t exist. It never has existed.
The “evidence” for the so-called damage done by CO2 counteracts Science completely and utterly yet is called The Science. I liken it to the majority of peoples The Truth by which they mean “My Chosen Truth”. There are few of us left that do not choose our Truth, we simply look for the facts and that is The Truth.

I usually phrase it this way —-“Provide one paper that rules out natural variability as the explanation for any changes that we see on all time scales in the climate”. ——I have been waiting for many years for a reply.

Something fools like Lineker and Thompson never think of is what happens if we get rid of fossil fuels. There would be no wind, wave or solar power. It really is simple; they rely on steel and contain fossils fuels, windmills for example contain hundreds of gallons of oil which has to be replaced every year not to mention the tons of concrete and steel that goes into the construction of them.
There would be no jets; you can’t build engines without steel whether they be electric, gasoline or fart powered. So there would be no cars, no planes, no trains. Most shoes and clothing would disappear, there would be no home deliveries, no mobile phones, no supermarkets, no gold, silver, diamonds. In fact there would be next to nothing left.

Many people (probably Lineker and all the po stars and actors as well) think that all we need to do is get rid of fossil fuels and everything will tick along just fine with maybe a few minor inconveniences. That is because they understand NOTHING about energy.

I must admit I had never heard that wind turbines contain oil and had to do a quick search on it to find out more. They’ve certainly kept that quiet!

I genuinely believe that they don’t even begin to think through the implications of no more fossil fuels. They’ve got some hazy, utopian picture in their minds of “green” energy continuing to do the job. And if it doesn’t, it will only affect the plebs after all, who should be more than willing to give up warmth, food, travel etc to “save” the planet (or to save the children, since that’s more emotive).

On a side note, using “work” as an excuse for needing to undertake air travel is probably the most p*ss poor excuse of all and is used by every single one of these militant celebrity types. If they really, really believed (like Lineker seems to) that we are at imminent risk of extinction then surely he and Thompson etc could manage to subsist on their rather substantial earnings to date and simply, er, stop? Or get a more local job? It’s for the sake of the children, you know!

The Planet has survived millennia of changes pre man, it has seen C02 levels that are hundreds of times higher than today, pre industrialisation, it has seen floods, ice age, meteors, I could go on, and guess what? it has survived. The arrogance of these people that they small insignificant creatures have the power of life or death over the earth, the eco system, planets etc.
If anything is going to go extinct it will be humans, and it will probably be under our own hands, or rather that of war mongering politicians, through nuclear or lab developed virus/bacteria. The desired reduction in living standards by the likes of Lineker and Thompson are misanthropic, in pursuit of killing people today through taking us back to the pre enlightenment era. I note they haven’t kicked off regarding the removal of winter fuel payments for the elderly, because to them, they are not as important as the facile and arrogant belief that they are the good guys, the guardians of the planet and what is right, and the providers for the generations yet to be born, meanwhile the people and children of the present, they to them are the problem.
Perhaps each should reflect on their lifestyles, perhaps atone for the sin of producing children, tell theri own they cannot breed, perhaps they should work only within walking or cycling distance of their homes, perhaps they should stop buying all imported goods including food and clothing etc,
What is it that makes a man or woman who becomes “famous”, because they can kick a ball well. pretend to be someone else well, suddenly decide that those gifts make them able to pontificate and dictate to the rest of us? I never can understand this.
