Why ‘Be Kind’ Liberals Have Ended up Cheering on Islamist Terrorists

by Toby Young
15 October 2023 3:00 PM

According to Jake Wallis Simons, editor of the Jewish Chronicle, the ‘Israelophobia’ behind the woke Left’s enthusiasm for Hamas is just the latest manifestation of the world’s oldest hatred. He’s fleshed out this argument in the Telegraph.

In my position as editor of the Jewish Chronicle, I have been shown footage and images that others have not. One clip in particular, filmed by a terrorist with one hand while he perpetrated his crime with the other, has since been flashing into my mind unbidden. He was using a rod to put out the eyes of a corpse.

These are the acts being celebrated by liberals in Britain.

How did we get here? How did society reach a moment where the more progressive you are, the more likely you are to support such savagery? This demands an urgent cultural reckoning.

Blaming Jews for their own massacre, and revelling in it, is the most naked example of a corruption that has been quietly contaminating the bloodstream of the body politic for decades.

Jews are always the first victims of human darkness, but the rot goes much further. It spreads downwards from the progressive elites that sit at the top of our institutions – universities and the civil service, broadcasters and advertising agencies, theatres and museums – from where they cascade their creed into society.

These “progressive activists”, as the More in Common thinktank has labelled them, comprise about 13% of the population in Britain. But they exert disproportionate power, rendering many common and reasonable beliefs taboo.

Their dogma can be seen in pronouns on the lanyards of NHS officials, the transgender flag outside the Royal Opera House, the sea of Palestinian flags at Labour conference under Corbyn and countless other places.

Their worldview includes fixed positions on race, gender, decolonisation, sexuality, slavery and the Palestinians. Although much of this causes real harm, particularly to teenagers and Jews, these ideological positions are signifiers of social status rather than authentic moral positions. They are luxury beliefs.

It is striking how closely this group adheres to these orthodoxies. Because it is a question of identity, it is almost unthinkable for devotees to hold some of those views but not others, and very hard for them to change their minds. Last week, Jeremy Corbyn appeared unable to revise his vision of Hamas as “friends” even in the aftermath of the massacre.

Worth reading in full.

It is more fixed minds than fixed positions. They are simply unable to concede that others have equally valid views based on data that they are not prepared to consider, let alone try to understand.
It is known as bigotry.
I would also add climate to your list of their zones of intolerance.

Nope.
As I’ve said on these pages before, you can’t understand political correctness, the pressure on Christians or the hatred of Israel unless you understand this is a spiritual war.
PC for example isn’t a socialist construct, but the planned eradication of Judeo-Christian culture from society. Islamists want to eradicate Israel, kill every Jew.
Good v evil.
Now would be a good time to decide which side you’re on folks.
I’ve read the end of the Book and know how things end, but there’s trouble first.

There are many that think all you need to do is to ‘give peace a chance’, without any awareness that there are enough people out there that are far from reasonable and singing John Lennon, or handing out flowers will not provide any protection.

“It is always the simplest ideas that lead to the greatest consequences. My idea, in it’s entirety is that if vile people unite and constitute a force then decent people are obliged to do the same; just that.”

I think Israel is responsible for the attack on itself by Palestinians in the very broad sense that there is a long conflict between Israel and Palestinians and all the actions of the past by both sides have led to this.

At the same time I am not anti-semitic, far from it, and I don’t support any wokel ideology.

This constant pressure to label anyone who doesn’t jump on the Hamas are monsters band wagon as anti-semitic or condoning brutal murders is tiresome.

Put it this way, the leaders of Hamas have much less blood on their hands than Bush or Blair. Which doesn’t excuse them. But where are the Bush and Blair are monsters and anyone who defends them is defending the killing of babies articles?

It’s impossible to appease Hamas, in the same way that it was impossible to appease Hitler.
Hamas’ actions were a provocation designed to provoke Israel to attack Gaza. Israel can do no other than try to eliminate Hamas.
Israel is going nowhere, they will always fight back. 2 million Palestinians live in Israel. Palestinians could choose to live in peace.

No. It’s impossible to appease Hamas as much as it is impossible to appease Netanyahu who has kept conflict in the region alive for his own interests (as have Hamas, who Netanyahu encouraged to keep alive the divide). Right now, Israelis are spilling out onto the streets of Tel Aviv shouting ‘Bibi is a murderer’ and calling for him to be jailed. They know they were purposely left defenseless. And how did Hamas have a list of top generals, and all their addresses? The same generals calling for his replacement? This was in part to the IDF and pilots having been stood down because Bibi was overturning the judicial system, strangling the Supreme court to allow him to stay in power, raze the Al-Aqsa mosque and take Gaza. He is so unpopular, he was unable to form a government. And then…..voila!. Like Hamas he is a fundamentalist nut job. All those in Israel and all those in Gaza will be better off if both leaderships are removed. For all time.

No.

Do you think Palestinians have been well treated by Israel, and if not do you think that the Palestinians have no one to blame for it but themselves?

Some 250,000 Palestinians were expelled from Palestine in the late 40’s. About 900,000 Jews were expelled from Iraq, Syria, Jordan, Iran & Egypt at the same time. The Jews moved to Israel because Israel welcomed them. Many Palestinians went into refugee camps & have stayed ever since burnishing their resentment.

Yeah, many people think their set of facts show who is right and who is wrong in the Israel Palestine issue. That’s a major part of the problem

“Although much of this causes real harm, particularly to teenagers and Jews”

It’s an interesting tactic conflating Woke with support for Palestinians but is this really suggesting that woke/transgender ideology is disproportionately causing harm to the Jewish community? Interesting then that Tourist Israel promotes Tel Aviv as the Ultimate LGBTQ destination. The Jewish Chronicle seems to have similar articles fully supportive of LGBT you might see in mainstream media.

It also seems odd that DS has had multiple articles showing persecution of Christians over their beliefs in relation to same-sex relationships and gender but I don’t recollect any on Jews in a similar situation.

If Hamas care about their people so much why aren’t they surrendering, laying down their arms and releasing the hostages? Why bring more bloodshed and death on the civilians? Well they’re bloodthirsty jihadis, they don’t do compassion like they don’t do surrender like they don’t do tolerance or living in peace. Their behaviour demonstrates perfectly what they think of the people of ‘Palestine’. Maybe they want to die for their cause but they don’t represent every other soul in that place. An interesting piece on the history of ‘Palestinians’;

“But,” says the leftist that wants to destroy Israel, “the people of the region consider themselves Palestinian, and we need to act according to their self-identification based on the last few decades.” So when confronted by the history that “Palestine” and “Palestinians” are made up, the response is that self-identification is the real determiner. This is beyond absurd, as we can see with a simple analogy.

We are currently being confronted with a media, supported by the same Marxist agenda, that claims that if a man self-identifies as a woman, he should be treated as a woman in all ways. Anyone with common sense realizes this is ridiculous. But as this agenda continues unchecked, more and more people are concerned about this craziness that is becoming commonly accepted.

A pig can call itself a chicken all day, but it is still a pig. Drag queens can call themselves women, but they are not. And an Arab born in Gaza is an Israeli or Gazan but not a Palestinian, no matter what the media has been pouring down our throats for decades. It is cultural suicide to allow self-identification to control the actions of the culture: be it drag queens calling themselves women or accepting “Palestine” as a historical reality.

This does not disqualify the idea of a two-state solution of a Jewish state living peacefully with Arab neighbors. But this cannot happen until this proposed neighbor entirely rejects and turns on Hamas and until they change their attitude that Israel has no right to exist and embrace Israel as a peaceful neighbor.”

Really……I can’t believe you are serious…this is a terrible, racist, genocidal article….

so the roughly 14 million people in the world who identify as Palestinian are just making it up, Or don’t exist, … According to the Rabbi?

In the 12th Century BC The ‘Philistines’ as the Greeks called them were already living in the area…maybe he missed that bit?

I’m assuming that Rabbi Barclay, who says they don’t exist, assumes that in that case they can’t have any legal rights on the land where they live either..which is handy…

…I think a funny little German fella with a small moustache had a similar idea about some people who he despised and thought shouldn’t exist….now what was it..don’t tell me..it’ll come to me…..

Interesting so what does he call people who are cheering on the fact that Israel has killed at least 2,215 people in Gaza over the past week, including 724 children and 458 women

– 8,714 people have been wounded in Gaza

– In the occupied West Bank, Israeli forces have killed 54 people and wounded 1,100 others..

….are they ‘not kind’ non-Librerals?

In response to 1200 Israelis being killed by Hamas terrorists, the Israelian army completely peacefully and kindly killed 1500 inhabitants of the Gaza strip with a mixture of air strikes and shelling. At least, these were the CNN-numbers of yesterday. And they’ve reportedly also cut off the water supply as peaceful and kind measure of self-defence against 2,047,000 civilians who didn’t attack them.

Toby has a bee in his bonnet about so-called anti-semiticism.
People are NOT anti-semites.
They do not dislike Jews for what they “are”.
They dislike Zionists for what they “do” against the indigenous Palestinians.

I have started a discussion on the DS Forum about free speech here:

Should there any limits to free speech and if so what should they be? Is censorship ever justified?

You will only be able to see if after it has passed moderation so it is invisible to you at the moment as I have only just created it.

William Cobbett and the Mufti of Jerusalem. 19th century German nationalism and al Qa’ida. Yuri Andropov and Facebook. ISIS and critical race theory. Whoopi Goldberg and Shi’ite Islamism. The Black Hundreds and the French Communist party. Malcolm X and the Ku Klux Klan.

Are there any two individuals, movements or schools of thought which this man is not capable of conflating under the heading of anti-semitism, as if it was an “ism” to which they all subscribed? And what is the relevance of any of these things to his declared topic, which is why the Guardianista left has turned against Israel over the years?

In a comment on this site a couple of days ago I remarked on the Zionist predilection for pseudo-intellectual propaganda. It has not been long in making a reappearance.
