Residents’ Fury as Ulez Camera Is Erected in the Middle of Their Quiet Cul-De-sac Leaving Them Facing £12.50 Charge Simply for Leaving Their ‘Little Road Nobody Knows About’

by Richard Eldred
19 August 2023 1:00 PM

A low-emission monitor erected in the middle of a secluded cul-de-sac has infuriated residents who now face a £12.50 charge every time they exit their driveways. The Mail has the story.

People living in Headley Close, in Chessington, will be snapped every time they leave their homes to go to work in the morning and when they return – much to their fury.

Many have lashed out at Transport for London’s (TfL) “stupid” decision to place one of Sadiq Khan’s hated Ulez cameras on “a little road nobody knows about”.

Headley Close has a row of garages at one end of the street, mainly used by van drivers, and is situated in the borough of Kingston where the controversial ultra-low emission zone will spread to on August 29th.

But a boundary anomaly means when they exit the street onto Chessington Road they will be in leafy Surrey, in the borough of Epsom and Ewell.

The border also sees a part of the A3 Kingston bypass in the Surrey borough cutting between the low-emission boundary to leave Chessington on a ‘Ulez island’.

Quite why a camera has been placed facing the entry of the road has left many people livid with the technology set to be switched on in under two weeks.

Those with non-compliant vehicles – most commonly those registered before 2006 for petrol and 2014 for diesel – will now be £12.50 out of pocket every day their tyres make contact with and exit the road.

The feelings among those who live in the 30 red-brick homes in the quiet road are epitomised in a nearby street where a Ulez camera has been beheaded, modus operandi of a Blade Runner.

Beneath it are two cardboard signs strapped to the pole, which read: “Our local hero! Top man. Thank you! Up yours Khan!”

With the other reading: “Whoever did this we owe you a pint. Cheers mate.”

A middle finger has been drawn, followed by: “Swivel on that Kahn.”

Headley Close resident Svet Vas has already spent between £60,000 and £70,000 to replace three of his 2016 vans for his building company to ensure he meets the Mayor of London’s Ulez rules.

But that still won’t be enough to escape the charge all because of his hobby.

Mr. Vas uses a trailer to transport his modified Land Rover to dirt tracks. But as it is too large for the small street he drives the old 4×4 from his driveway, about 32 foot up the cul-de-sac, and loads it up onto the trailer there.

He thinks the non-Ulez-compliant vehicle’s massive tyres spend about 35 seconds on the road, but he will still be charged £12.50 each time.

The van towing the trailer and off-roader is well-within Mr. Kahn’s proscribed eco limit.

“I spent thousands and thousands of pounds modifying so I could put it on the trailer, so I’m legal with the police, with everyone – and then I can’t even unload it now,” he said.

“You can’t even do your hobby because of one thing. I drive 32 feet and that’s [£12.50], for no reason whatsoever.

“There are old people here and they’re going to have to park on the other road.

“I’m fortunate to make a good living, but there’s a lot of people that can’t afford cars like that.

“The guys that were building it said to me that they found three or four cars that were non-Ulez, and that’s why they put it in [the camera].” …

Gary Schoard was standing next to his non-compliant pick-up truck when he spoke with the MailOnline and said he would have to consider scrapping his car.

He does not live in the borough and was visiting his brother, Rod – a pleasure which will cost him £12.50 in two weeks time.

The builder will have to work for another four or five years before he retires, and took aim at Mr. Khan’s £2,000 scrappage payment which won’t cover the cost of a new car.

He said: “I’ve got to get rid of this soon, I’ve got another two weeks to scrap it – it’s old now, so I put in for it [to be scrapped].

“I don’t know why they bothered putting [the camera] down there. Residents can go out their driveway but can’t get out of this close.

“There’s a lot of fuss about it, no one really agrees with it.

“I’ve got another car as well that’s not Ulez, so I’ve got to do something about that too.”

Worth reading in full.

Stop Press: According to the Times, vandals posing as workmen, wearing high-vis vests and hard hats, have been targeting Ulez cameras.

Democracy in action.

Some people voted for the town councillors at some point, so everything they do is democratically approved by the people.

Apparently that’s democracy.

For crying out loud, what is this latest kack? Yet another reason not to send your kid to uni by the looks of it. Check out the comments below the 1min vid. I’m with Jaco. Yeah I think the elites are well done with subtlety now, the brainwashing young people with dogmatic garbage is now completely out in the open.

Students have certainly changed since my day. Now they actually embrace being indoctrinated with absolutely no ability to think for themselves. I’m imagining a sort of Mao’s cultural revolution type scenario where they roam the countryside looking for faint whiffs and plumes of smoke from people’s woodburners…

This ULEZ thing just gets added to the ever-expanding list of examples underneath the title; ”Proof that our governments hate us” There is quite the body of evidence by now, and it’s still growing. As they say, ”actions speak louder than words.”

This, even to a non-scientist minded person such as me blows the lid on the climate scam.

A cracking read.

Someone has uncovered – literally- that the expansion of the LEZ to the ULEZ has long been in the planning, by peeling off the top layer on some LEZ signs to reveal a ULEZ sign underneath & already in situ for many years…

Another corker of a documentary ( 44mins ) and a blast from the past. Almost 20 years on and we’re still saying the same things but we’re being persecuted and brainwashed more intensely. ”My model is right, it’s the real world that is wrong”, says it all really.

He will not stop!
He is the modern day Sheriff of Nottingham but London. The sheriff’s men will be fining and arresting.
If London vote him again they are downtrodden serfs.
I wonder which global corporations climate scam, job he has in his sights! ? He could get advise from Moderna’s new recruit.
They cut their authoritarian teeth with the gullible masses first before moving into the totalitarian arena. Prove their ruthless compliance.
Should it not be the case that if democratic elected officials collude with corporations cutting out the wishes of the electorate, that is totalitarian!
Who, where, support? Guidance, colluding with funding, contracts ?? camera supply; is Sheriff Sadiq in any conflict of interest with. In discussions with?
Journalists need to investigate as he can’t believe his climate nonsense so WHAT is his motivation? Does anyone know?
Is totalitarian actions by those elected ever considered treason against our country. The heavy handed use of power in recent times in the UK is unacceptable they are drunk on diktat juice. We must not comply.

People have to realise they have the power not the expletive-deleted Khan. They must all drive out en masse and not take any notice of the cameras, drive out several times a day to amass as many PCNs are possible. Ignore them all. Hopefully Bladerunner will have some positive influence about improvements to street furniture too. There is absolutely no point in taking Khan seriously on this. He’s on a mission to turf people out of their cars and help himself to the contents of their wallets at the same time. In any other age, he would be called a Highwayman, a Dick Turpin type or, in this case, a complete Dick. He is nothing more than a stooge bringing in Agenda 21 and for that reason, we must stand up to him and send him packing at the next election. Good luck Londoners!

There will be a rebellion. The rise in interest rates means that by the end of this year you are looking at an extra million people in default. And those who haven’t defaulted will have had to tighten their belts considerably. In the British housing sector this means huge rent increases that will further disenfranchise millions. It is difficult to anticipate the outcome of this strife. I think the best prgognosis is one of the separating of the ways, If you do not have the wit to see courage as the facilitator of every other virtue then you might have a problem.

When will I wonder, khan convert ULEZ into a congestion zone, thereby requiring all motorists to pay.

To my mind the people who are being taken for a ride on this ULEZ business are the people who drive cars which are ULEZ compliant. TPTB are not putting up all these cameras just to tax the minority of cars which are not ULEZ compliant. If the cameras work as per the stated intention then fairly soon they will have driven all the non ULEZ compliant cars off the road and will then be earning no money!

Or, as I believe to be the case, ULEZ is a Trojan Horse to introduce continual road charging, monitoring and control for all vehicles. These cameras may just be monitoring ULEZ today but very soon they will be used to monitor control and charge for all motor vehicle usage.

Correct. The population of Greater London (and eventually it will be the whole of the UK are in a “Pastor Niemoller” situation:

First they came for drivers in central London
And I did not speak out
Because I did not drive in central London
Then they came for drivers of older vehicles in inner London
And I did not speak out
Because I did not drive an older vehicle in inner London
Then they came for drivers of older vehicles in Greater London
And I did not speak out
Because I did not drive an older vehicle in Greater London
Then they came for every driver in Greater London
And I did not speak out
Because I did not drive in Greater London (or Manchester/Glasgow/Oxford etc)
Then they came for every driver in the UK
And there was no-one left to speak out for me.

The issue isn’t the rationality of the edicts it is the position that you find yourself in if you follow them. This is not a place of happier comunities and children playing on the streets, It is the opposite of that.Yes we could do with reconsidering our relationship to our roads and areas but they have something completely different in mind which totally affirms their profit centre. We have to acknowledge that the disentangling of our situation will not be easy and will take many years.

They saw some non-compliant cars so put up a camera. Hm, that doesn’t seem to have much to do with pollution does it? Its all about cash for Khan, he personally needs a serious fraud examination, he is defrauding the public by misrepresentation.
