London’s Metropolitan Police have finally shown signs of cracking down on the eco-loon Just Stop Oil protesters, who have been blocking roads in the capital for months. The Mail has more.
Eco-zealots Just Stop Oil have targeted motorists again with the latest in their serious of tedious slow marching protests – drawing a predictably irate reaction.
The group – who want the end of fossil fuel projects – were shuffling from Princes Street in the direction of Bank Junction this morning.
But the Met Police appear to have finally discovered the way to stop them.
This morning Superintendent Matt Cox issued the group with a Section 12 order, meaning they have to stay off the road or face arrest.
Their Groundhog Day-style cycle of slow road marches are in their third week, but JSO say they are going to continue until the fossil fuel ban is met.
But the protest group has become frustrated by the police tactic of issuing the order.
It adds a condition to “any public procession” and has curtailed the activists’ demonstrations in the past few days.
A Just Stop Oil spokesperson fumed: “The Public Order Bill and specifically Section 12 notices are being used to remove the British public’s right to peacefully oppose Government policies that threaten the lives of hundreds of millions of people.
“Marching has been an integral means of bringing about social change for centuries, be it for those seeking universal suffrage, those seeking to gain equality, or those seeking to make transport accessible for disabled people.”
The right to protest is important, of course. But the disruption must be within bounds, and Just Stop Oil with its repeated blocking of busy London roads has clearly overstepped the line. It needs to find less disruptive ways to protest.

I struggle to drum up much sympathy for Londoners’ inconvenience. They vote for Khan and his ULEZ charges, they fall for the climate change crisis nonsense, when they aren’t personally affected they nod their heads and agree with all the lies they’re told by the press, along with all their cowardly, consensus-seeking dinner party friends. It makes them good people, after all. Ultimately they get what they deserve, as we all do when we dutifully trudge down to the polling station and cast our votes for the same self-serving egotists, liars and thieves whose actions and decisions have brought us to where we are now.
The islamic block postal vote elects on exactly one criterion.
“In multiracial societies, you don’t vote in accordance with your economic interests and social interests, you vote in accordance with race and religion.” – Lee Kuan Yew, former president of Singapore
Long before Muslims become a majority in any democratic country, they become “King-makers”, because their block vote gives them the balance of power. From that point onwards, expect dual systems of governance and law.
As far as I can tell, both the monarchy and the church are fully supportive of the direction of travel.
When Lockdown protests were taking place the Met couldn’t wait to get togged up ready for some head bashings but these protests were at weekends and peaceful. The eco nutters have shown no respect for fellow citizens and even flaunt their hypocrisy, plastic high-viz banners and jackets to the fore, in front of people seeking nothing more than to go about their daily business. It’s about time Braverman pulled her finger out and had a very loud word with the head of the Met and told him to pull his finger out or else he would be out and his golden pension too.
The law should be applied equally. I couldn’t care less the views of the Met but common sense needs to return.
Businesses were fined during lockdowns and at egregious amounts with £10,000 not being an uncommon sum; if people’s businesses are being put at risk because of these selfish, stupid and ignorant green nutjobs then in the name of fair play and equitable application of the law fines of £10k should also be levelled at these protesters.
This inappropriate and jaundiced application of the legal system has to cease – fantasy land I know but we have to hope.
I utterly detest these people.
When were Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Aldi, Lidl, M&S fined? Plenty staff supposedly exempt from mask wearing but apparently no need for them to be furloughed to protect The Vulnerable. Any supermarkets closed for being a “hotspot”? None that I saw. COVID pandered as much to big business as the politicians it seems.
This is how a Marxist State conducts itself..
Net zero bollox.. Protest.. Not a problem
Cancel culture bollox.. Protest – not a copper in sight (Bristol)
BLM bollox.. Protest.. You’re welcome
84 year old lady peacefully holding a placard outside parliament protesting about her basic human rights being removed with zero parliamentary scrutiny… Bundled in to a police van by four coppers…
If you’re not angry you’re not paying anywhere near enough attention…
Damn right.
‘The right to protest is important, of course.’
No there is no ‘right’ to protest either under Common Law or legislated.
Under Common Law there are passive Rights including freedom of speech, freedom of movement, freedom of assembly. But the Common Law principle is we may not enjoy our Rights at the expense of others.
My Right to swing my fist stops where your nose starts.
There is no Right to force change on others, to deprive others of their Rights to go about their lawful activities unhindered, and without fear, nuisance, being intimidated, frightened, assaulted or having their property damaged.
Yet ‘protest’ has come to mean all of that. It is de facto terrorise which is a strategy intended to make people fearful and their lives so miserable, they will accede to the wishes of those terrorising them and lobby their Government to do so.
That this bad behaviour has been tolerated and even rewarded is a disgrace – and us now called a Right – and why only the eternally dim believe that ‘peaceful’ protest has any effect on Government policy. The bar-stewards don’t listen to use when we vote – the most peaceful of protests – so they won’t listen to anyone unless they smash the streets up. They have trained the lunatic fringe to understand that.
The Met being forced into giving the illusion of consistency so soon after their well criticised response to less disruptive anti-monarchists.
Were the Just Stop Oil protesters celebrating the Coronation at the weekend and all the hydrocarbon based waste that entailed?
According to the silly activists who clearly do NOT understand anything about climate or energy, millions of people will die because of the use of fossil fuels. Which is good news if you listen to some of these dreamers who say it is actually billions who will die. But in the real world, not the virtual world of climate modelling, or the all faith and emotion but fact free phony planet saving cult, it is not having fossil fuels that will cause billions to die. Fossil fuels provide 80% of the worlds energy and the ones dying young of preventable diseases and of back breaking labour are the ones in the poorest countries with NO FOSSIL FUELS. ——-One billion poor people in this world have no electricity, and another 2 billion only have enough to power your average fridge. The braindead policies that these eco socialists would impose on the whole world if they got their way would keep these people in this state of misery for all time and would impoverish the western world into the bargain. ————But these people are in reality only the useful idiots for western governments who are trying to impose NET ZERO on their populations and lower their standard of living all based on the idea that CO2 is causing dangerous changes to climate. ———But on closer examination there is no increase in the frequency or intensity of any type of weather events anywhere in the world, and so people are dying FOR NOTHING. We cannot have brainwashed dreamers dictating energy policy. Our own governments are already making enough of a pigs ear of that already.
An absolutely first rate post.
Seconded. Totally in agreement.
There are (unless I miscounted them) 54 syllables in The Public Order Bill and specifically Section 12 notices are being used to remove the British public’s right to peacefully oppose Government policies that threaten the lives of hundreds of millions of people. Consequently, I suggest to give the guy who made this statement 54 slabs into the face, each followed by You’re lying and we both know that. Protest is about expressing one’s dissenting opinions in public. Blocking road traffic is neither about expressing one’s opinions nor is it peaceful as the goal is to change the behaviour of people who have absolutely no direct influence on government policy by force.
And another point:
Unless the eco nutters are removed from the streets at some point somebody is going to get seriously hurt or even killed and if they do the Met will carry a large portion of the blame. I’m amazed something serious has not yet occurred.
Some additional information: Exactly the same, just still somewhat less well organized, is going on in Berlin (same kind of fake grassroots organizations employing the same tactics while claiming to want to accomplish the same ends). As with COVID, this strongly suggests central coordination, finger to point at the UN, whose demands for yet more aggressive climate change policies haven’t been met so far.
Well, well, well.
No great surprise. One of George’s outfits wii be at the back of this without a doubt.
I donated to a legal fund for Andrew Bridgend’s defamation case against Hancock. I would suggest everyone who is concerned about what this gov’t did to citizens in the Uk, vote with their pocketbook when ever you have the opportunity.
About time too. The police have acted disgracefully. Under the Highways Act 1980, it states under section 137 (1): “If a person, without lawful authority or excuse, in any way wilfully obstructs the free passage along a highway he is guilty of an offence and liable to [imprisonment for a term not exceeding 51 weeks or] a fine [or both].”
The police have acted as facilitators of these offences during which JSO has raised its profile, created this victim-identity and blindly (or not) hastened the end of our car driving freedoms.
Nice one Aethelred
It is worth remembering how the issue of “Protest” has been handled over the last 15 years.
Protest has, quite rightly, gone on for centuries. But there was a major change in the response of our Beloved Leaders in 2008. “On 10 August, up to 2,000 people gathered at Kingsnorth Power Station near Hoo to demonstrate against plans to create a new generation of coal-fired electricity plants. […] campaigners were allowed a one-hour peaceful protest outside the gates of the power station before being dispersed. […] 20 refused to leave the entrance to the power station and formed a human chain in front of the gates. After an hour-long standoff, they were removed by police in riot gear who carried them away to waiting vans.” (Daily Mail)
They caused (at least) £30,000 of damage on site. In addition to policing & legal costs.
When the case went to trial, the prosecution case was so blatantly weak that I can’t imagine there was not ‘laughter in court’. The defence was permitted by the Judge to present bogus and irrelevant “evidence” by activist “Experts” including NASA GISS’s Jim Hansen, who had helped rig the June 1988 US Senate “Climate Hearing” and a “Native” North American gentleman worried about his tribe. So the “Protestors” got off with a friendly pat on the back. Thanks, Tony Blair!
Then there was the farce of the Ratcliffe on Soar Power Station conspiracy to occupy and close down the site on 13 April, Easter Monday 2009. Here Blair’s tactic was more sophisticated. An undercover Special Branch police officer, Mark Kennedy, had long infiltrated the “Activists” and was arrested together with another 113 people who planned to occupy and close the Power Station down. Of those arrested, most were mysteriously released and just 26 were charged on 25 September. To cut a very long and interesting story short, those eventually convicted were eventually released and compensated when it turned out that Mark Kennedy had been having “relations” with one of the key female activists. He subsequently went “native” and was dumped by the police.
I remain unsure how this not very surprising revelation was enough to vaporise the enormous amount of evidence of a criminal conspiracy. Perhaps the fact that a big tranche of classified ‘Secret’ police and special branch documents mysteriously found their way into activist hands and can easily be found on the Internet today, had something to do with it.
You can also find the interesting “Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station Protest Inquiry into Disclosure” by the Rt Hon Sir Christopher Rose; an independent inquiry at the request of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Keir Starmer QC.
Well done Tony, Gordo, Kneel Starmer! Job done! If you are backing Official Policy, Protest away!
Any wonder people can get away with blocking London streets?
